Chapter 127 I'm divorcing you again

Rachel's POV

I glared at Joyce immediately. Why was she being cold all of a sudden?

"What? You're still injured. I can't have you talking to strangers at this time." She stated nonchalantly and I pursed my lips.

"David is not a stranger to me, he is my husband."

I had no plans of revealing that to her, but I felt she wouldn't leave until I disclosed he was someone close to me.

"Husband?!" Her eyes widened as she exclaimed.

"I'll tell you about it later, now leave." I shooed, and Joyce stood up from the bed and walked towards the door, but not before easing at David who kept gawking at her back.

I noticed his sudden interest in Joyce but I refused to say anything, smiling back up at him.

"I'm sorry for what I said; I only said it to make her leave." I apologized as soon as Joyce was gone.

David snapped his head towards me before shaking it. "That is exactly what I'm here to talk about."

My brows knitted together and my smile turned to a confused one. "It's not like I lied. We are married."

"Were" He corrected, and my brows knitted even further.

"No, are. The papers you signed already deem as a married couple.

My heart pounded in my chest loudly. I did not like where this conversation was headed.

"And that is where I come in." I looked towards the man who spoke.

He was wearing a professional suit and was holding a briefcase in his hands, he had a small smile on his face, but I didn't have to be Shakespeare to know this wasn't a friendly or even comforting conversation.

"What do you mean?" I asked with a gulp.

"Right, I forgot to introduce you two." David smiled lightly, removing one of his hands from his pockets and patting the other man's back fondly with it.

"Rachel, met Jameson, my lawyer." He introduced himself with a small smile.

Lawyer?

Why would he want a lawyer?

There was only one reason he would need a lawyer and that would be...

"David..."

" I'm divorcing you again, Rachel!"

I felt my whole world shatter and crumbled to pieces as I stared at the man I once loved wholeheartedly.

Actually, that was not it.

That was how I thought I would feel if David mentioned getting a divorce, but instead I just felt... Nothing.

" You have become a liability to me Rachel and I have to let you go. " He said then she smirked. "To think you would kill Lana..."

"I didn't kill Lana". I interrupted coldly. "But I don't care what you believe. "

David shrugged muttering an ' okay ' before gesturing to Jameson, his lawyer to continue.

"My client here, and my friend wishes to annul the both of you marriage contract which was said to remain for six months. " The lawyer began as opened his briefcase bring out document.

The same document I gave David.

" It is stated in the document here that... "

" For fuck sake just get this done already! "

The lawyer blinked in surprise at my outburst before looking towards David who nodded at him, then he looked back at me.

" It is written here that Mr David Hart cannot divorce you for no real reason as he would have to pay a fine, but commiting murder and being locked up in jail for it is a reason so... "

" So he doesn't have to pay the fine. I get it". I completed sounding impatient.

It was only a matter of time before one of them says...

" By the way I found a clause in the contract that stated that if it's a mutual agreement, we both can annul this marriage with none of us loosing anything ". David said and I smiled.

" But you have to keep the alliance between Hart industries and Andrew Corporation ".

David smile wavered. " But that was if I wanted to divorce you for no real reason, you committed murder".

"No, I'm still just a suspect until pronounced guilty by a judge". I corrected. Even to me it sounded like a lie.

" I didn't kill Lana ". I repeated.

" But that's not what the news say, and this news is terribly affecting my client's company ".

I snorted in annoyance. " I wasn't the one who told you to spread the news about our marriage online, you didn't that yourself ".

It was only for a few seconds the day I got arrested but I saw the news headlines.

I guess he took it down as soon as the news came out that Lana was dead and I was the killer.

" Look here David, there us nothing you can say that would make you break that alliance, you can read the contract thoroughly". I said emphasizing each word.

I was tired of this conversation.

I just wanted to lie down on my bed and scream.

To yell at myself for being stupid to believe that a jerk like David would actually love me.

" Ms I took the liberty of reading it through for him, and I'm here to tell you that because of your current situation, this contract is void. "

I glared daggers at the stupid lawyer, " What did you just say? "

" I said that this contract..."

I heard him the first time and the idiot repeated it again.

I wasn't too surprised by the lawyer's words.

It only meant that David hired a really competent one.

" Rachel..." David spoke up taking a seat on the bed before looking at me with a fake look of concern.

I was an actress for just a movie but yet I could clearly differentiate between what's real and what's an act.

" You are practically doomed. You are in jail, the Andrews are pressing charges on you for killing Lana and are not willing to back down, you also also made an enemy after being in prison for less than twenty four hours, and now you are in the hospital" David listed all my sins and my hands under the blanket clenched to a fist.

I didn't kill Lana!

" You said it yourself, Ethan was dating Lana, what do you think he would do to you now he knows that you killed Lana and his unborn child?"

"Wait, you know about Lana's child too?" I interrupted looking at him in shock.

I saw something like panic or was it guilt or fear pass through his eye before it disappeared just as quickly as it came. " When Martha Stewart Andrew had been shouting it to anyone that care to listen for the last few days that her adopted daughter killed her real one, why wouldn't I know?" He said with a scornful laughter.

" Ms you don't have anything or anyone to lean on, so we advise you listen to our terms. " The lawyer brought out another document from his briefcase and dropped it beside me, dropping a pen also..

" What is this? " I asked even though I clearly saw what was written on it.

He really wanted to annul the marriage.

I looked up at David who gestured for me to look back at the paper.

" You're already at the bottom, and I sincerely can't allow you drag me down with you. But I'm going to do you a favor though ".

" Which kind of favor could a man like you do for me? " I asked with mocking laughter.

Was I mocking David or myself? I really don't wasn't sure.

" I'm going to keep the alliance between the two companies." He said nodding his head like he had just done the greatest thing in the world. "The Andrews are already suffering too much because of you, I would just seem like the hero.'

I blinked, looking away from him as tears gathered in my eyes.

No Rachel, don't you dare cry.

You can't show him your weakness, not now not ever again.

"Fine then," I said clearing my throat before picking up the pen as I blinked the tears back. " Where do I sign?"
