Chapter 148 Her reason
Marina's POV
I managed to drag my feet into my house before shutting the door with a small sigh.
I felt tired. I was tired.
I had told the cab driver to drop me off a few distance from here and walked all the way back to home. My feet was killing me.
"Where the hell have you been?"
"What the..." I almost screamed, immediately turning around to see Mark's walking towards me his face etched with worry.
I was about asking him what he as going here when I remembered. We were supposed to meet up today.
" Where have you been? I have been so worried, you weren't answering you calls or texts..."
" You called?" I reached into my bag to bring out my phone,
Ten missed calls from him.
Well he was persistent. But that still didn't justify the fact that he was in my house.
" You almost gave me an heart attack, what are you doing here?"
Instead of answering my question, Mark cupped my face and made me look him in the eyes. " Are you alright?" He asked thoughtfully.
All the tears that I desperately tried to keep at bay back with Rachel gathered in my eyes.
Just those simple words from him, and I was already breaking down.
I shook my head as my lips trembled. "I am not okay." I confessed as the tears came down.
Mark didn't say a word, only pulled me towards him in a warm embrace and ran his hand across my back.
I poured out all my frustration and anger into tears, allowing them to flow down as I held Mark's shirt tightly.
This was not me.
I wasn't a girl who cried just because someone asked how she was, bit I just couldn't stop myself... I couldn't stop the tears.
I was angry and needed a place to vent, Mark's chest just felt right.
It took a few minutes before the tears finally stopped, and I pulled away from Mark's chest, wiping my stained cheeks with my hands.
Mark stared at me for a second, before taking my hands and leading me to seat down, then he went towards the direction on the kitchen and came back with a glass of water.
" Now can you tell me what happened?" He asked calmly asking handing over the glass to me which I accepted with both hands.
Taking a sip from it, I nodded my head.
" Rachel doesn't want to talk to her parents. She doesn't even want us to speak about them. "
Mark raised a brow at me. " But they're willing to meet to make things up with her ". He said and I immediately agreed.
" That's what I told her... Both me and Joyce, bit Rachel won't believe it. She thinks that they abandoned her and is not ready to hear otherwise". I said sounding frustrated as the tears came back again.
" That's her problem, her thinking. She never listens to anyone but her mind and it just gets me so mad and..." I got choked my a sob and stopped talking.
" And sad?" Mark completed. I bit my lips shaking my head. " Rachel doesn't know how lucky she is. Her parents are willing to talk to her, to make right all their wrongs, yet she refuses them ".
" My parents would never do something like that ". I revealed in a low mutter putting my head down.
That was the reason why I was just so mad at Rachel for being stubborn.
Ever since my parents disowned me, they had never called me once, never checked up on me... The only way I knew they were still even alive was because of the news.
" It hurts to see someone getting what I've wished for for the past five years on a platter, yet she was still rejecting it. Mark it really hurts ".
Mark placed a hand under my chin, raising my head up to meet his eyes.
Those beautiful eyes that held only concern and love for me.
" I'm sorry you're going through so much because of what your parents did. " He began. " I'm sorry because I can't say I understand how you're feeling because I don't. I also left my family to pursue what I wanted, but they didn't disown me. They called me very often, I was the one dissing their calls most of the time. My grandfather even..."
" Are you trying to make me feel worse?" I interrupted, giving him a dumb stare.
He had been going on about how great his life was, it was starting to get irritating, but not in a bad way.
"No I'm not."
"Are you sure? Because I can feel that's what you're doing."
The truth was I was not feeling that. I knew Mark would never purposely choose to make me feel bad, but that was what any other person would say.
" I just finished pouring out my heart to you for fuck sake and to comfort me your telling me about how much better your family is?" I asked incredulously.
Mark chuckled softly shaking his head. " I wasn't trying to comfort you. I just wanted to hear something else from that mouth of yours other than self pity or a sob "
My heart fluttered, and I felt touched.
This man really understood me.
In just a few... I don't know, can I say months? We have known each other, Mark already understood me.
" Thank you ". I muttered. " That was just what I needed ".
" I know ". Mark said with a smile.
" Also about Rachel, you've known her for the longest time so I'm very sure you know that's how her brain is wired " I chuckled nodding my head.
" I know. I know that she has every right to think what she wants to, I just don't her to misuse this opportunity. If I got a chance to talk to my parents even though it's for just a minute, I would take it ". Mark gave me a small smile and sighed looking ahead.
" Are you sure your parents never agreed to see you? Or you never went to see them? " He inquired after a few minutes of utter silence.
I blinked tilting my head " Both ".
Mark brows furrowed and he looked confused. " Both? "
" Yeah. I'm very sure my parents don't want to see me, and that's why I never went to see them. I'm a proud person, being thrown out of my once family house wouldn't look good on me ". I joked with am hint of truth.
The main reason I was so scared of going back home was because I was afraid they would reject me. That my father would order the guards to drag me out of the manor while I would be too shocked to say anything and just allow myself to be disgraced like that.
" You can't be too sure if you haven't tried".
No... I can.
I knew my parents. They were no nonsense people, and defying their rules was just nonsense. They would never want me back, but I couldn't tell that to Mark.
I could already see the wheels turning in his head as we spoke of my parents. Hopefully, he wasn't thinking of making me go back there because there was no way that was working.
"I'm hungry." I said changing the topic as I stood up to the kitchen to find myself something to eat. I felt better, way better, to the point that I had begun to think that my actions earlier today were too extreme.
I just lashed out and yell at Rachel who was still stunned from the news of her parents being alive and well and wanting to see her.
Unless someone talks so sense into her head, there was little or no chance that she was going to see the Nielsons.
"Oh and Mark..." I called and Mark turned on his seat to face me. " Call Ethan and tell him about what happened with Rachel, I think he is the only person who can convince that girl now."
I said with a wink an disappeared into the kitchen.
I was not blind or deaf or dumb to see or hear that Rachel and Ethan were not on good terms. But she was still in his house and that was a start.
All those two needed to do was talk, and to do that, they need a topic.
