Chapter 125 No mother hates her real child
Rachel's POV
The sun was high up in the sky, and the sound of busting cars mixed with the grinding of some kinds of stuff I couldn't name filled the air.
Though it was really nosy, to me it sounded peaceful.
I stared out the window, looking down at the city below. Actually, I wasn't staring at it. I wasn't even thinking about the loud noises, that was why I found it so peaceful.
I was too preoccupied with thinking of more important things than to actually focus on just watching the city.
"Rachel, what are you doing there? " I heard Joyce ask as she walked into the room.
My lips pulled up in a small smile before I turned around to face her.
"How is my favorite doctor in the world?"
She shook her head at me, pursing her lips. " Angry. You know you are not supposed to be walking about right now, you're still very injured. " Joyce complained and I flashed her a grin.
"I know, I know, but I've been in bed for three days Joyce... Three whole days!" I repeated, sounding dramatic; it was even accompanied by a dramatic expression to match.
" My legs were tired and my body was so sore and..."
" Enough, stop whining, and get back on the bed. Ethan would kill me if he found out about this. " Her hands immediately flew to cover her mouth, but it was too late, I heard it.
" Ethan? " I asked with a scoff shaking my head as I returned to the bed.
"Yeah, Ethan." Joyce nodded awkwardly. " Look don't take this the wrong way, but I'm very sure you know it was Ethan who called me here, so it's only right I report to him about your health "
I snickered looking away from her. " Yet you say you are not on any side "
" Hey, " Joyce shook her head, coming to sit next to me. " I'm not. The truth is that both you and Ethan have yet to fully come clean to me about the matter, so there is no way I can be on his side or yours. " She explained but I still refused to look at her.
What she said did make sense, though, but hearing that bastard's name just gets me so mad.
I heard her sigh before suddenly feeling the bed had gotten lighter. My eyes went to Joyce who just stood up and walked over to a cabinet, taking out some drugs and a bottle of water.
"Fine, at least take your medicines so I can know you're getting better. " She stretched her hands to give me the drugs, but I just adverted my gaze again.
What if she was working for Ethan and both of them were in cahoots to kill me?
' Again, if Joyce wanted to kill you, she would have done so a long time ago, ' A voice at the back of my mind reminded me.
"Don't be stubborn, Rachel," Joyce groaned, already feeling frustrated.
Stubborn?
I was not stubborn!
I let out a deep sigh before reluctantly taking the drugs from her hands and plopping them into my mouth.
"Here, have some water".
She gave me the bottle of water, which I took not so reluctantly before returning it to her.
"There, that wasn't so hard was it?" She cooed with a smile and I just rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, better run along and tell Ethan that I've been a good girl". I said sarcastically in an annoying small voice.
"Maybe I would go tell me".
My eyes went up to her, and I glared at Joyce, who just laughed. "I was kidding; come on, it was a joke." She said with a giggle, and I rolled my eyes again.
It was not funny, not at all.
I hated the feeling of having someone watch your every move and then report it back to a person I completely hated right now.
" Rachel, you don't have to worry; even though I said I'm on the fence, I'm like fifty-five percent your side and forty-five percent Ethan's, so I'm basically team Rachel here. "
Just fifty-five percent?
The look I gave her asked that question and she nodded.
" I believe if you Ethan talk some stuff out, everything would make sense"
" You've said that before, and I already agreed to talk to him." I sighed.
Yes, I agreed to talk to him, but it would change nothing.
He may not want to murder me because it looks like he didn't think I killed her, but he was with Lana, my arch nemesis, while still being nice to me.
That was enough reason for me to hate him forever.
But I owed him so much already. He is the only reason why I was still alive even after the heartbreak I suffered from David, my family, and my ex-best friend.
He was my support when I needed it and I couldn't just throw all that away like that. Even though the guy betrayed me, I still had to thank him for saving me the first time.
If not because I fell for him, I would have gone back to David a lot sooner. Maybe my life would have been perfect again, or maybe worse, but now I would never know.
" By the way, em... Have anyone come to visit me?" I asked after a while to Joyce who just blinked in confusion.
" Uh?"
I sighed running my tongue over my dry lips. " I mean did someone come to the hospital to look for me or the police station?"
I had just thought of David and our supposed marriage, and then I remembered that I had yet to see him since I was thrown in jail.
Joyce nodded after a while, but she looked hesitant" Yeah, a few people did come, but I wasn't so sure you wanted to see them".
A spark of hope appeared in my eyes.
Did he come?
" Where? Who? Did the person come to the police station or hospital? " I asked all at once with a smile.
Maybe I was wrong about David all along. Yeah, sure he was an asshole, but maybe he had changed.
Maybe he really loved me like he said he did.
The Hart family had a lot of power in New York, and if they involved their selves in the case, the real killer could be found easily, and I would be out of jail, or they could just find a way to bury this dumb case.
" Not all at once. " Joyce giggled at my questions which I didn't find funny at all.
" Actually, it was more than one person, and the three of them have been visiting right from the station down to when you came here. " She said and a huge smile broke on my face.
Three people?
That could mean, David, possibly Marina, and my mum.
Wait, that didn't sound possible.
My smile froze and I was soon enough looking confused.
Why would Martha come to visit me?
Her daughter, her real daughter, just died, yet I was fantasizing about her coming to visit me. What for? So she could kill me or drag my hair on the floor?
I wouldn't put it past that woman to actually kill me because of Lana, because I saw how much she loved that girl.
' Lana was her real daughter why wouldn't she love her? No mother hates her real child ' The voice whispered, and my smile went back up, this time it was a small sad one.
No mother hates her real child, no mother but mine.
My biological family left me on the streets for dead, they left me all alone.
"Rachel, what the hell are you thinking about? I've seen multiple expressions pass through your face in just under five minutes and you haven't said anything." I heard Joyce say and I blinked out of my daze looking at her.
"I spaced out for a minute, just thinking about something." I said still a little out of it. I took a deep breath and released it slowly before looking back at Joyce. "So tell me, did the people who visited me drop their names?"
