The next morning, Sean came to the hospital to give Gloria a final checkup.
He said to Gloria, "You can be discharged now. But Gloria, don't ever risk your life again."
Sean didn't want to say that to Gloria at first. However, for some reason, he suddenly remembered the conversation he had with Patrick in the bedroom at Fittro Club that day.
He glanced at Gloria and continued, "Now that you are out of prison, you should live your life more seriously. The past is in the past, and you've paid for what you've done. Three years in prison may not be worth a life, still, it costs you a lot."
Gloria had been silent, then, she raised her head slowly and looked at Sean. She asked, "Has everything been paid?"
Maybe it was an illusion. Yet Sean thought he heard a hint of sarcasm in her gruff voice.
He looked down suspiciously at Gloria, and his eyes became obscure. "What do you mean?"
Gloria lowered her head and said, "Nothing."
Sean was a little confused. Had he just heard wrong?
He observed her for a few seconds and found nothing wrong. He said, "Try to be more obedient when you're with Patrick if you want him to go easy on you."
Gloria smiled and didn't say anything.
She thought, 'You all think I'm guilty, I'm a murderer, and I deserved to be locked up for three years.
However, why do I deserve it since I didn't do anything wrong?
Has anyone witnessed me killing Gabrielle?'
Gloria felt exhausted. She often felt this way lately.
Gloria raised her hand and rubbed her eyebrows, trying to relax a bit.
Sean looked at Gloria. He hesitated for a moment and said, "There is one more thing. In fact, Patrick is very..."
Sean wanted to tell her that Patrick was very concerned about her. However, he didn't finish his sentence. He pondered for a moment and changed the topic. He said, "Never mind. Just be good from now on, alright?"
Gloria's fingers dug into her palms as if trying to rip the flesh out of her palms.
Suddenly, Gloria raised her head and looked at Sean determinedly. She asked, "Sean, will you believe me if I say I had nothing to do with Gabrielle's death, that I didn't set her up three years ago? Gabrielle brought this on herself, and she told me that she didn't love Patrick. She deserved to die."
Her voice was gruff but eager. She was so desperate to persuade Sean and gain his trust.
Sean stared at the woman in front of him. Her eyes looked pure and determined, which made people want to trust her.
However, Sean was by Patrick's side three years ago.
He said, "Gloria, I thought that three years in prison was just going to take the wind out of your head and make you timid and humble. I'm surprised. After three years, you have become so despicable! Perhaps this is who you really are. You've been fooling everyone for years. If this is not who you are, how could you do something so vicious three years ago? Gloria, I withdraw my sympathy for you."
Sean's eyes were cold and indifferent as he looked at Gloria. After he finished speaking, he turned around and strode towards the door.
He reached for the doorknob and pulled it, and then his pupils contracted instantly.
A cold aura came at him from outside the door.
"Alpha Patrick." Sean bowed his head under the force of the pressure coming from Patrick, afraid to address Patrick's name directly. Sean's wolf asked him to do so in his mind.
Patrick scared the hell out of Sean that he dared not to look at him.
Patrick paid no attention to Sean. Patrick's eyes were locked on Gloria, and his expression was terrifying.
Looking at Gloria, Patrick felt angry, and he was engulfed with agitation.
"You can never learn to behave." Patrick's cold voice was ruthless.
Sean was terrified.
His eyes wandered back and forth between Patrick and Gloria, and the atmosphere in the room froze.
The room seemed quiet. However, the air was extremely tense.
Gloria shuddered when she saw the figure at the door of the ward. Like Sean, she was also terrified.
She hated Patrick and was also scared of him.
"Three years didn't make you any better. You didn't learn to behave. Instead, your behavior has become much more unsatisfying." Patrick's voice was piercingly cold.
Though he kept disappointing her, right now, the heartache was still killing her.
"Then send me to prison again!" She lost it. She shouted fiercely, "Patrick, send me back to prison! I'll still say the same thing! I'll still curse Gabrielle till the day I die!"
Gabrielle and Gloria were once close friends, which was why Gloria hated her even more.
Gloria thought, 'I was locked up for three years. I had more than enough time to figure out what really happened that night.
However, I still found it hard to believe. I kept telling myself that there must be a misunderstanding. I was tortured so much in prison. I suffered so much from humiliation, and I witnessed too many terrible things. As a result, I changed, and I let my dark side get the upper hand. Everybody looked bad to me. I took it out on Gabrielle.
But when Lanny confronted me in the room at Fittro Club about why I had forced Gabrielle to drink a bottle of whiskey, I could no longer deceive myself.
It's not my fault. I didn't become hideous after all the things I have been through.
All along, the only mistake I made was trusting the girl with the sweetest and tenderest smile!
Gabrielle!
I was always good to her. And what did she do? She kept acting when she was with me! What was she thinking every time she told me she didn't like Patrick? What was she up to?
Whenever I courted Patrick and was rejected by him, Gabrielle was there to comfort me and encourage me.
I only realize now that when she was comforting me back then, she was secretly laughing at me for being stupid.'
