POV: Ravenna
The messenger arrives at dawn two days after Seraphine shared the letters.
I'm with Lyris in the healing garden practicing advanced techniques when someone shouts, "Messenger from Aetherwyn! Urgent news!"
Everyone drops what they're doing. Converges on the village center. Because news from Aetherwyn arriving at a hidden village means something BIG happened. Something we need to know.
The messenger is water kingdom. Young woman with weather-sensing gift who navigates by following storms. She's exhausted. Covered in road dust. Breathing like she RAN here.
"Princess Ravenna!" She gasps when she sees me. "I bring news from Queen Thalassa. Ambassador Silas Cove has been EXPOSED."
My stomach drops. "Exposed how?"
"As Eclipse." She accepts water from Elder Mira. Drinks deeply. "Three days ago, a survivor came forward. Woman who escaped Eclipse attack five years ago. She identified Ambassador Cove as the man who ordered her family's assassination. Gave specific details—dates, locations, his VOICE." She pauses. "Queen Thalassa arrested him immediately."
"Thalassa arrested her own ambassador?" Saren sounds shocked. "But Silas has served Aetherwyn for—"
"Twenty-five years," the messenger finishes. "Everyone was shocked. But the survivor's testimony was compelling. And Thalassa—" She stops. "Your grandmother doesn't tolerate betrayal, Princess. She had him interrogated. Harshly."
Of course she did. Thalassa is many things. Soft is NOT one of them.
"Did he confess?" Theron asks.
"Yes." The messenger looks around at the gathered villagers. At the gift-bearers listening with wide eyes. "He confessed to everything. Membership in the Eclipse since its founding. Coordinating assassinations across Water Kingdom. Using his diplomatic position to identify gift-bearers in other kingdoms and pass information to Eclipse hunters." She pauses. "He implicated others. General Stone of Pyrstone. Lord Marcus Thorne of Cindravale. Several minor officials across kingdoms."
"Lord Thorne," I breathe. "Father's Master of Coin. Eclipse has been embedded in OUR court."
"For over a decade," the messenger confirms. "According to Silas's confession."
"Did he name the leader?" Elder Mira asks urgently. "Did he identify who FOUNDED the Eclipse?"
"No." The messenger's expression is grim. "He refused. Said only that the founder has True-Sight gift and has been hunting since the beginning. That revealing the founder's identity would mean certain death—even from prison." She pauses. "But he confirmed the Eclipse is real. Has existed for over thirty years. Targets gift-bearers systematically across all four kingdoms."
The courtyard ERUPTS. Everyone talking at once. Relief and vindication and RAGE all mixed together.
"We're not crazy," someone shouts. "We're not PARANOID. It's real."
"They've been hunting us for DECADES!"
"And now we have proof!"
I stand there letting it sink in. We suspected. We theorized. We gathered testimony. But this—this is CONFESSION. Undeniable. Public. REAL.
"There's more," the messenger says loudly. Silencing the crowd. "Queen Thalassa sends word to King Aldric. She proposes temporary truce between Fire and Water kingdoms to deal with the Eclipse threat together."
Wait. WHAT?
"Thalassa wants a TRUCE?" I can't believe what I'm hearing. "With Father?"
"Yes. She says—" The messenger pulls out formal letter. Reads. "'The Eclipse threatens all kingdoms. All gift-bearers. All our people. Previous conflicts are meaningless compared to this threat. I propose we unite against common enemy. Share intelligence. Coordinate response. Eliminate the Eclipse before they eliminate us.'" She looks up. "King Aldric has accepted. They're arranging formal alliance."
I'm—I don't even have WORDS. Thalassa and Father? ALLYING? After years of tension and border disputes and her trying to control me?
"That's—" Morgana starts.
"Politically brilliant," Saren finishes. His face is thoughtful. "Thalassa gains moral high ground by proposing alliance. Shows she prioritizes kingdom safety over personal conflicts. And Father gains powerful ally against threat he can't fight alone."
"It's also TEMPORARY," Theron points out. "Once Eclipse is dealt with, those tensions return. But for now—"
"For now we have two kingdoms united," I say. Understanding clicking into place. "Which means we can return to Cindravale safely. With evidence. With witnesses. With political support from AETHERWYN." I look at the messenger. "When does Father expect response?"
"He asks Princess Ravenna to return home as soon as possible. With whatever evidence you've gathered. With whatever witnesses can testify." The messenger pauses. "He says—" She hesitates.
"What?"
"He says he's sorry. For forcing the competition. For not seeing the Eclipse threat sooner. For—for everything. He just wants you home. Safe."
Something in my chest cracks. Father apologized. Publicly. Through official messenger. That's—that's HUGE for him.
"I'll return," I tell the messenger. "Within the week. With evidence that will END the Eclipse. Tell Father I'm coming home."
"I will, Princess." She bows. "Thank you. For surviving. For FIGHTING. For—for giving us hope."
She leaves. The village is still buzzing. Processing. CELEBRATING because finally—FINALLY—someone believes us. Someone with POWER believes us.

That evening, Elder Mira calls emergency council meeting.
"This changes everything," she says without preamble. "Silas's confession validates our testimony. Gives us credibility we didn't have before. And alliance between Fire and Water kingdoms means Princess Ravenna can return safely."
"What about the Eclipse?" someone asks. "They'll try to stop us. Try to kill her before she reaches Cindravale."
"Then we travel with escorts," Theron says. "Warriors. Shields. Protection." He looks at me. "We don't go quietly. We go with enough force that Eclipse thinks twice about attacking."
"I'll go," Marcus the shield-bearer says immediately. "My gift can protect the group."
"I'm going too," Lyris adds. The young healer. "You'll need another healer. Someone to help testify. I survived Eclipse hunt. I can speak to that."
"We'll send a dozen of our best warriors," Elder Mira says. "Volunteers only. People willing to risk everything to END this." She looks around. "Who's willing?"
Hands go up. DOZENS of hands. People volunteering to leave safety. To risk their lives. To FIGHT instead of hiding.
"We can't take everyone," I say. My voice is rough. "But—thank you. All of you. For being willing."
"You gave us hope," an elderly man says. His voice cracks with emotion. "You survived when you should have died. You FOUGHT when most would hide. You proved gift-bearers can WIN." He pauses. "We follow you because you showed us how."
I don't know what to say to that. Don't know how to respond to being called LEADER. HOPE. Something worth following.
"Then let's not waste it," I say finally. "Let's return to Cindravale. Present evidence. Expose the Eclipse. And END thirty years of hunting."
"When do we leave?" Morgana asks.
"Three days," Elder Mira says. "Time to prepare. Gather supplies. Copy documents. Ensure everything is secure." She looks at me. "Time for you to say goodbye to people who became family."
Because that's what this village is. Family. People who took us in. Protected us. Taught us. Gave us sanctuary when nowhere else was safe.
Leaving feels like abandoning them.
"You're not abandoning us," Mira says like she can read my thoughts. "You're HONORING us. By taking what we've gathered and using it to save others. That's what we've been working toward for twenty years."
"Then we'll make it count," I promise. "Every testimony. Every document. Every life lost. We'll make it ALL count."
"We know you will." She smiles. Sad but proud. "That's why we're letting you go."
