The Dragon Princess and the Warrior

Chapter 127

Ch. 127 / 150 Apr 06, 2026

POV: Ravenna

Lysander examines Theron the moment we land.

Father is there. Furious like I predicted. But he sees Theron barely conscious and injured and his anger transforms into relief so profound it's almost painful to witness.

"You found him," Father says. Not accusation. Just—statement of fact.

"Of course I found him." I'm not letting go of Theron's hand. Not even for Lysander's examination. "He's mine."

Lysander works quickly. Checking vitals. Assessing damage. Finally he looks at me with something like awe.

"You purged Eclipse poison," he says. "All three toxins. Completely. That should be impossible."

"It wasn't impossible. Just difficult." I'm so exhausted I can barely stand. "Is he going to be okay?"

"He'll recover fully. Thanks to you." Lysander touches my shoulder. "Another day without treatment? The poison would have killed him. You saved his life, Princess."

"I know." My voice is flat. Factual. "That's why I went after him."

They move Theron to the healing wing. Private room. Best care. I follow. Refuse to leave. Father doesn't even argue. Just—lets me stay.

I sit beside Theron's bed. Hold his hand. Watch him sleep. Healing sleep where body repairs itself after trauma. Natural. Healthy. But TERRIFYING because what if he doesn't wake up? What if something I missed—

"Stop spiraling," Morgana says from the doorway. "I can see you spiraling from here."

"I'm not—"

"You are. You're sitting there imagining everything that could still go wrong. Stop it." She comes in. Sits beside me. "He's fine. You healed him. Lysander confirmed it. He just needs rest now."

"What if the poison—"

"Is gone. You purged it. Completely. It's done." She squeezes my shoulder. "You did it, Rav. You saved him. Now let yourself BREATHE."

I try. Really try. But breathing feels wrong when Theron is still unconscious. When I can still feel how close I came to losing him.

He wakes on the second day.

I'm half-asleep in the chair beside his bed when I feel his hand move in mine. My eyes snap open.

He's looking at me. Fully awake. Fully PRESENT. Not delirious or confused. Just—Theron. My Theron. Alive.

"Hey," he says. Voice rough but clear.

"Hey yourself." I'm crying. Again. Seems to be my default state lately. "How do you feel?"

"Like I was poisoned and almost died." He manages a weak smile. "But alive. Thanks to you."

"You're welcome." I wipe my eyes roughly. "Don't do it again."

"I'll try."

"Try harder."

He laughs. Actually laughs. Then winces. "Hurts to laugh. Note to self."

"Then don't be funny."

"Impossible. I'm naturally hilarious."

"You're naturally a DISASTER." But I'm smiling despite everything. Because he's JOKING. Making light. Being HIMSELF. "Tell me what happened. During the ambush. Hadrian said The Shadow targeted you specifically."

His expression goes serious. "He did. Separated me from the group. Cornered me in the ravine." He pauses. "He TALKED, Rav. The Shadow actually spoke to me."

"What did he say?"

"That Seris wants me eliminated. That I protect you too effectively. That removing me makes you vulnerable." His jaw tightens. "He said he was doing me a favor. That the poison would let me die slowly instead of burning alive. Like that was MERCY."

My blood runs cold. "He told you Seris ordered your death."

"Yes. Specifically. By name." Theron's eyes are sharp despite exhaustion. "The Eclipse wants you isolated. They've been eliminating your protectors systematically. First trying to kill me during the competition. Then targeting Saren. Now this."

"They want me alone so I'm easier to kill."

"Or easier to CAPTURE." His voice is grim. "Think about it. If they wanted you dead, you'd be dead already. They've had opportunities. But they keep trying to isolate you first. Eliminate support. Remove allies."

"Why?"

"I don't know. But it's strategic. Planned." He struggles to sit up. I help him. "We need to be smarter. More careful. Better protected."

"Or," I say slowly, "we need to END the Eclipse. Permanently."

"How?"

"We arrest everyone we've identified. Cassian. Lord Thorne. Others. We interrogate them. Force confessions. Use them as LEVERAGE to draw Seris out." I'm thinking faster now. Planning. "She's careful. She operates through others. But if we start dismantling her organization? She'll have to respond."

"That's dangerous."

"Everything is dangerous." I meet his eyes. "But we can't keep playing defense. Can't keep REACTING while they attack. We need to take the fight TO them."

"Agreed." He touches my face gently. "But carefully. Strategically. Not recklessly rushing in."

"I can be strategic."

"You can be IMPULSIVE."

"Same thing."

"Absolutely not the same thing." But he's smiling. "Promise me you'll plan this properly. With Father. With advisors. With actual STRATEGY instead of just setting things on fire and hoping it works."

"I promise to TRY."

"That's not reassuring."

"It's all you're getting."

He sighs. "Fine. We'll work with it." He pauses. "There's something else. The Shadow said Seris is preparing something big. That everything so far has been preparation."

"Preparation for what?"

"He didn't say. Just—warned me. Like he was proud of whatever's coming." Theron's expression is troubled. "Whatever Seris is planning, it's worse than anything we've faced. Bigger. More dangerous."

"Then we stop her before she can execute it." My voice is firm. Certain. "We arrest Eclipse members. We interrogate. We EXPOSE everything. And we force Seris into the open where we can END her."

"You make it sound simple."

"It's not simple. It's necessary." I take his hand. "As long as Seris lives and commands the Eclipse, none of us are safe. Not me. Not you. Not any gift-bearer in the kingdoms." I pause. "We end this. Soon. Or it ends US."

"Then we end it." His grip tightens on my hand. "Together. Like everything else."

"Together," I agree.

We sit in silence for a moment. Just—existing. Alive. Safe. Together despite Eclipse's best efforts to separate us permanently.

"I was scared," he admits quietly. "When the poison started working. When I realized I couldn't move fast enough to reach safety. When I thought—thought I might die before seeing you again."

"But you didn't die."

"Because you found me. Refused to accept my death. Fought the poison through sheer stubbornness." He looks at me with those amber eyes full of love and gratitude. "You're extraordinary. You know that?"

"I'm determined. There's a difference."

"No. You're extraordinary." His voice is firm. "You survived assassination attempts. You survived the Eclipse hunting you across kingdoms. You survived WAR. And when I was dying in a ravine, you refused to let me go." He pauses. "That's not just determination. That's—that's everything."

I don't know what to say to that. Don't have words for the emotion choking me.

So I just lean forward and kiss him. Gentle. Careful of his injuries. But real. Grounding. Proof we're both alive and choosing each other despite everything trying to kill us.

"I love you," I whisper against his lips.

"I love you too." He rests his forehead against mine. "And when this is over—when Eclipse is ended and war is finished and peace is possible—we're getting married. Properly. With ceremony and witnesses and everything."

"We've discussed this."

"I'm discussing it again." His voice is fierce despite exhaustion. "I want to stand before the kingdoms and CLAIM you publicly. Want vows and witnesses and no question that we're choosing each other. That we SURVIVED to choose each other."

"Okay." I smile despite tears. "When this is over. Proper wedding."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

He's recovering. Getting stronger. In a few days, he'll be back to full strength.

And then?

Then we go to war. Not against Water Kingdom. Not against Earth Kingdom.

Against the Eclipse.

Against Seris.

Against everyone who's been hunting us for months.

They wanted to isolate me. Weaken me. Make me vulnerable.

Instead, they made me furious.

And fury is dangerous.

Especially when it comes with healing gift, dragon bond, and absolutely nothing left to lose.

Seris should be terrified. Because we're coming for her. And this time, she won't escape.
