The Cursed Bloodline

Chapter Twenty-Three - Images of the past

Ch. 23 / 40 Aug 14, 2024

Caoimhe’s mind was a mixture of black and gray as answers were slowly revealed from within her, the deepest parts of her soul were becoming unlocked as the heavy shackles that had once weighed her down were now thrown away with ease thanks to her mate. It had been Odin’s mate mark upon her neck that was the cause of her vivid visions as they continued to possess her and tear her mind apart as Caoimhe slowly became more than she previously had been. She felt an unending love towards the man who slowly grew more distant from her as she could sense his massive paws dig into the course ground as he steadily grew closer to his impending target, the thing that had caused both Ure and Immoenne alarm.

Caoimhe could sense Odin’s soul as clearly as if she were with him at that moment and yet there was something else near him that was luring her attention, something that reeked of death and yet Caoimhe couldn’t seem to focus on it as her mind was once again plunged into darkness. This time the darkness that greeted her only lasted for a moment as her ethereal body appeared translucent with a hypnotic gentle hue surrounding her body, it was a gentle light that had once radiated from her mother's body when she had chosen to reveal her true appearance, it was the sign of a god, an eternal being who was not of this world.

She glanced around at her new and unfamiliar surroundings, the air smelled strongly of evergreen and moss and yet there was a tangy scent within the air, it reeked of blood and pheromones, it was almost unavoidable as Caoimhe soon found herself gently floating towards a waif-like creature who lies cowering against the trunk of a tree. The young woman appeared both plain and beautiful as she clenched her eyes tightly closed as blood pooled from around her legs, there was something simple and familiar about her as she kneeled on the ground in obvious pain.

The world seemed to stop spinning the moment her familiar opal-like eyes met Caoimhe’s, she was someone who Caoimhe was never meant to meet and yet the young woman knelt before her with blood trickling down her tanned legs as she breathed in heavily. Her left hand protectively grasped her enlarged stomach as she stared at the creature who seemed to be floating in mid-air from before her. The young woman’s shoulder-length chestnut brown hair fell over her face as her long bangs clung to her cleeks as sweat formed on her forehead, she stared at Caoimhe with discontent displayed upon her face. Her posture was defensive even though she was in obvious pain with the child held within her womb threatening to emerge at any moment.

Caoimhe could sense the woman’s blood pumping within her veins despite her current circumstance that she had found herself in. Caoimhe looked her over curiously as her bare feet were gently placed upon the forest floor, the air was stale and cool as the sun began to set in the west. Caoimhe appeared like a mirage from before the girl as the once dull luminous light that seemed to vibrate from Caoimhe’s very being seemed to shimmer brighter.

“Who are you?!” The woman demanded as she pulled a dagger from a hidden sheath that was resting on her thigh.

Caoimhe started to speak only words refused to part from her delicate lips, soundless words formed on her cupid's bow as she scrunched her eyebrows together in frustration, the girl may have been able to see Caoimhe and yet Caoimhe was incapable of speaking. This realization frustrated her as the young woman stared at Caoimhe suspiciously as she held the dagger against her chest pointed at Caoimhe, fear didn’t cross Caoimhe’s eyes as she knew she was safe from harm despite the obvious danger that had presented itself from before her.

She was the goddess of death, not even death itself could snuff out the flame that was Caoimhe’s soul.

“Chaos, wrath, uncertainty, despair, I am everything that your kind fear,” Caoimhe finally said after a moment only the words didn’t come from her lips.

The words seemed to fill the air from around them as Caoimhe found herself connected to the girl who knelt from before her, she couldn’t be sure how she was communicating with her physically and yet she knew that it was something that felt natural to her as if it were something that she was meant to do. Caoimhe knew that this new ability of hers was unique to her, it was comparable to a wolf's mind link and yet she could do it on command without having to be within a wolf's pack to communicate with someone.

“How are you doing that?” The girl asked as surprised consumed her and yet curiosity remained hidden within her mind.

“You can sense it, can’t you?” Caoimhe said avoiding her question.

“Sense what?” The girl asked suspiciously.

“Your child is fading away,” Caoimhe replied as her icy blue eyes shifted down to the girl’s stomach as she instinctively held it tighter.

“How would you know such a thing?” The girl demanded now as tears threatened to pool from her opal-like eyes.

“It’s the reason why you hold despair in your heart, for the fear of your child being delivered stillborn,” Caoimhe replied simply as she finally took a step towards the girl.

“Stay back!” She shouted aggressively as she threatened to plunge the dagger at me.

“Lelia,” Caoimhe finally spoke the words from her lips as the physic link was finally severed.

Yes, Lelia, Caoimhe thought to herself as she looked over the woman who was her blood sister, a woman who had been born a few years after Caoimhe’s father committed the grievous sin of tossing his firstborn child into the Dead Sea.

Lelia had been conceived by Svarog’s second mate, a woman he had chosen to combine the southern and northern territories of Thallyn as one, he was an ambitious man and yet he made sure that no one remained alive to know about his first mates sin, the sin of deceiving the Great Alpha Svarog. He was a man who was flawed in every way, who bore fear into those who he ruled over including his only surviving daughter Lelia. She had fled from him as she knew once her child was born her father would take her child’s life into his own hands and end it just as she had done with his first child.

The woman named Lelia’s eyes grew wide as Caoimhe spoke her name with ease, and yet the expression was soon replaced with suspicion and fear as a realization hit her.

“Did my father send you?” She asked as the fear swelled from within her.

Caoimhe couldn’t help but smile at the mention of their shared father, a man whose blood she suddenly yearned to spill.
