The Cursed Bloodline

Chapter Twenty-Two - Visions

Ch. 22 / 40 Aug 14, 2024

Caoimhe’s POV:

Caoimhe opened her icy blue eyes and glanced around her surroundings, once again she was surrounded by nothing, only this time the air from around her felt warmer and calmer as a gentle buzzing noise filled the air and spread a gentle warmth from her chest to her fingertips. The spirit of Conri was no longer with her now as he had saved her from losing her self within the world of the dead, his spirit never belonged there and thus couldn’t remain with the goddess of death for very long within that world.

The goddess of death isn’t meant to remain with the souls of the deceased, A familiar voice stated as the gentle sound surrounded me.

Things were steadily becoming clearer the more Caoimhe focused on the voice, a voice that seemed so far away and yet it felt as if it were with Caoimhe at that moment as if it had never left her.

Mother? Caoimhe thought desperately as she shifted her body weight to gaze around at her surroundings.

Nothing surrounded the young girl except the empty air that seemed to call her name with an enchanting tone that almost felt like a lullaby as it eased her mind and eased her into a dream-like state. It was then when Caoimhe closed her eyes that the truth about herself was finally revealed to her, it was as if a door within herself had finally become unlocked as she finally passed the forbidden threshold. It was within that sacred and forgotten room that Caoimhe remembered that she was one of the oldest souls in existence within the world of Gliese.

All the knowledge in existence was contained within her petite frame as ancient words and forgotten visions pressed within her mind all at once, it was almost impossible to focus on one thing at once as the memories of the past appeared like a blur. They came in waves all at once, waves that were impossible to grasp as the current grew too strong, it would sweep her away and slowly drown her as the unending knowledge filled her lungs and cut off her air supply.

Breathe, A voice demanded as she clenched her eyes closed as a pain spread from her chest as her lungs pleaded for air.

Remember her, the voice demanded as it brought forth a memory, one that Caoimhe hadn’t witnessed herself.

Lada… Caoimhe thought after a moment as she imagined her mother's face.

The first thing she had seen coming into this world was her father plunging his sword into her mother's chest, he had done the one thing that had defined her entire existence as Lada’s fresh blood pooled from her chest and dripped down onto her newborns face. Caoimhe touched her face as the scene replayed itself within her mind, blood pooled from her eyes and trickled their way down her cheeks as she watched as her mother's blood coated her infants face and soak into the infant's eyes causing the small creature to weep pools of blood. The newborns once beautiful icy blue eyes were now crimson as she was forced as her mother dyed from before her, the one person who she was destined to love and long for all eternity had been taken from Caoimhe just moments after being born.

I don’t want to see this, Caoimhe thought to herself as she wiped away at the bloody tears that had now stained her olive cheeks red.

Brutality, the voice finally said as the scene of Caoimhe’s death faded away, instead, it was replaced by another image, something far darker.

The image appeared of a young midwife neck being slit open on a hidden pier as Caoimhe’s form now hovered over the ocean as she was forced to float within the mid-air and watch as the sharpened knife chewed at the young woman’s neck and parted the skin gracefully. The blood that flowed from her neck was warm and flowed down her chest and over her stomach as it dripped into the cold water. There was something familiar about her emerald green eyes that were strikingly familiar as her once blonde hair was now soaked with her fresh blood and clung to her body. The girl looked up pleadingly as the life slowly drained from her eyes and glanced towards Caoimhe as if she could see her.

The young girl's only crime was attempting to save the life of an infant, an infant who had only been alive for a few hours as her delicate body was stained red with her mother's freshly spilled blood. The young midwife hung her head in defeat as her blood trickled down her neck and over her exposed breasts, she had been stripped of everything that she possessed. She stared down at the calm waters from below her as her heart raced causing her to bleed out at a quicker rate, her esophagus had been torn so her breaths were now cut short as her lungs filled with her blood. She sputtered out a choked sob as those who had sentenced her to death placed a foot on her spine and shoved her into the ice-cold sea from below her.

Her defeated tears slowly moulded with her watery grave as she closed her eyes and wished that she had been able to save the life of the innocent infant who had been ripped from her dying mother's arms, nothing that she did could change the events now. All the young girl could do was curse the man who sought the blood of others so desperately that he would murder anyone who stood in his way. The girl opened her eyes one last time as she sensed a familiar presence surrounding her.

Can she see me? Caoimhe thought startled as she watched as the remaining bubbles escaped the girl’s lips.

Caoimhe bent over as she reached for the water that rested just below her hovering feet and glanced curiously at the dying girl who was slowly sinking further beneath its surface, she reached her arm upwards as if reaching for Caoimhe in return.

“Immoenne,” The familiar voice recited only the voice came from Caoimhe’s chest now.

The voice she had heard was her own as she saw the girl clearly for the first time, the emerald eyes were unmistakable as the girl’s face seemed to blend into that of Immoenne. Immoenne closed her eyes as her heartbeat for the final time her outstretched hand slowly lowered to her side as her body sunk to the pits of the ocean. The girl was now dead and yet it was not death that greeted her. Caoimhe closed her eyes and focused on the young girl who she had come to know over the past few

“Immoenne,” Caoimhe called out desperately just as her familiar emerald eyes faded from view.

“Come back to me!” Caoimhe screamed as tears ran down her cheeks just as the image was ripped away from her.

No! Caoimhe wanted to scream just as something within her erupted causing a flow of raw emotions to flow from her raw and untouched soul.

Caoimhe’s ice coloured eyes seemed to shimmer as anger and hatred shattered and clashed together from within her as the illusion that had once hung over her as a mirage seemed to crumble as the remnants of who she once was clattered to her feet. The Goddess of death and winter had awoken causing a smirk to caress Caoimhe’s full lips as she finally accepted who she was for the first time in her life. Her hair vibrated as a gentle silver hue graced her body and clung to her skin as it embraced her curves, her once long ebony hair lifted and flowed from around her as the strands were gently dyed a silvery-white.

Caoimhe smiled in admiration as she lifted her hand gracefully and touched the silvery tips, the fresh memory of her mother came back to her as she remembered her mothers once flowing silver-white hair, it had been the first feature that lured the great Alpha Svarog to her as he was smitten by her beauty. Now the beautiful locks would be his unending nightmare as Caoimhe felt his presence within the world at that moment. Svarog was centuries old, an old man who had never physically deteriorated as he had been cursed with eternal life, it was the one thing Lada gifted him just as he plunged his sword deep into her chest, an unending life of pain and misery as he was forced to watch all those he had once loved, die.

I will end him, the beautiful goddess of death recited as her icy blue eyes shimmered with excitement at the thought.

But first, Caoimhe thought as she closed her eyes and sought out the young midwives' soul.

Despite what her kind did to her, her soul remained pure and untainted, just as Caoimhe assumed, as the soul belonged to that of Immoenne, a girl who had shown Caoimhe nothing but kindness and welcomed her with a warm embrace. It was, for this reason, she allowed the soul to be reincarnated into that of Immoenne as she was once again born wither beautiful emerald eyes with a new family who would do nothing but show her love until the fateful day when their lifelines would regrettably end.

Caoimhe smiled to herself as she gifted the young girl who had delivered her into the world a second chance at life.
