The Cursed Bloodline

Chapter Thirteen - Intruders!

Ch. 13 / 40 Aug 14, 2024

Odin's POV:

“Run!” Ure’s familiar voice called out.

The shrill horror within his voice pierced straight through my dream and caused me to groggily open my eyes as panic ensued from around me. I lifted my head slightly and realized that I had passed out on the sofa, sleep hung over my head as my gaze made its way to the matching reclined just on the opposite side of the sofa. The first thing that caught my eye was an enchanting creature sitting just before me with her legs crossed and tucked in from under her as she sat upon the recliner.

Those ice-like eyes… I groggily thought to myself as I examined the woman who sat before me.

Her piercing icy blue eyes were the first thing to catch my attention as I abruptly sat up and gazed at Caoimhe for a moment, her long ebony hair was now dry and flowing freely, framing her face. Her hair was brushed out and gently swept over her right shoulder where it cascaded over her breasts and into her lap. The crème coloured dress she had chosen to wear stood out amongst her ivory skin tone, all I wanted to do at that moment was to gently kiss her neck and slowly make my way down…

“Odin, we need to go, now!” Ure said desperately as he quickly approached the sofa.

Confusion filled my mind as I watched as Caoimhe’s eyes flickered back to their opal-like state the moment Ure spoke and approached us.

Am I still asleep? I thought to myself confused.

Or am I just going mad?

“Odin!” Ure shouted as he now stood before me.

I quickly arose from my foggy haze as my mind quickly cleared and became alert, it was at that moment that I could sense the presence of hostile creatures who were approaching us at an alarming rate. My eyes narrowed as I quickly sat up and closely listened to the air that surrounded us in hopes of figuring out the source of Ure’s panic.

Elijah, I realized after a moment as my heightened senses clued into the wolf pack that was quickly closing in on us.

“I think its Elijah,” Ure said as he watched me focusing hard.

“No shit,” I mumbled.

“We can’t stay here,” Ure urged.

“Where are the girls?” I asked suddenly as my eyes shifted from Caoimhe to the otherwise empty cabin, I couldn’t sense their presence anywhere.

“I sent them off already, Immoenne knows where to go,” Ure said as he held out his hand to help me up.

“good,” I said as I nodded and took his outstretched hand and allowed him to help me out of the sofa.

A wave of dizziness rushed through me as I stood up causing me to sway slightly, Ure showed a hint of concern on his face as he noticed the slight motion.

“I’ll be fine,” I said after a moment as I placed my hand on my head to help steady myself.

What is wrong with me? I thought to myself as I furrowed my brow in confusion.

I had never felt dizzy like that before the feeling felt unusual as I dropped my hand after a moment.

We need to get out of here, I thought as I finally realized that Caoimhe was there with us.

“Why didn’t she go with the girls?” I demanded as I glared at Ure angrily.

"She wouldn't go, we also don't know if she is a werewolf so she wouldn't have been able to keep up with the girls while they were in their wolf forms,” Ure said after a moment as his gaze shifted over to Caoimhe.

“She wouldn’t go?” I asked confused now.

“I couldn’t even force her, its as if her feet were firmly planted in the ground,” Ure said with a nod.

This isn’t good, I thought to myself.

There was no way we would be able to escape in time before Elijah’s wolves found us, I wouldn’t be able to effectively protect Caoimhe.

“Why didn’t you wake me up sooner?” I demanded as I quickly made my way over to Caoimhe as she sat there silently and watched us bicker back and forth.

“I’ve been trying to wake you up over the last hour! It was like you were in a deep trance, nothing could wake you up,” Ure stated frustratingly.

“Let’s go!” I said as I urged Caoimhe to climb on my back.

I shivered the moment Caoimhe’s fingertips brushed against my bare back as she felt cold to the touch despite our surroundings being warm from the hearth. Electric shocks coursed through my body with goosebumps forming along my arms the moment she placed her body weight on my back and wrapped her arms around my neck. The blood pulsed through my veins as my heart rate sped up, a primal need was coursing through my body and dwelling within my nether regions as her touch made me instantly erect.

I can’t focus on that right now, I thought to myself as I attempted to shake the feeling off.

“Ready?” Ure asked just as Caoimhe securely wrapped her legs around my waist.

“Yeah,” I said as I nodded.

We had no choice but to face the wolves head-on as we exited the cabin, their scent was closer now as their heavily padded paws now filled the air.

We’re too late, I thought to myself as many wolves steadily approached us.

“How are we going to protect the girl?” Ure asked uncertainly as he nervously looked from the approaching wolf pack to Caoimhe who remained silent on my back.

I wasn’t sure how to answer him, we would never get away undetected and yet I didn’t want to expose my mate to a vicious attack.

Especially an attack that we might not live through, I thought to myself as I swallowed the nervous lump in my throat.

“I want you to take her and run,” I said after a moment, the decision had already been made in my mind.

“Okay,” Ure said as he nodded, knowing full well that he wasn’t meant to question my decisions.

“Caoimhe, get on Ure’s back,” I gently ordered as I lowered my body weight just enough to encourage her to climb off.

“Caoimhe?” Ure asked confused.

Caoimhe vigorously shook her head no in defiance as she desperately clung to me even tighter, the motion made me smile slightly in adoration at the thought that my beautiful mate didn’t want to leave my side and yet I knew that this wasn’t the time for it. I nodded at Ure to signal him to remove her from my back even if it were by force.

"It's not something that I can explain right now," I said just as the outline of a half a dozen wolves approached us at an alarming rate.

They were massive for their kind and pure black, they were a special force to be reckoned with, I knew by looking at them that I wouldn’t be able to take them all on my own and yet I didn’t have a choice.

Caoimhe began to kick and scream as Ure grasped her securely by her waist and pulled her from my back, I winced slightly from the piercing cries that were coming from her small frame. It was the first time anyone had heard any semblance of her voice and yet the sound made me shake. The sound was filled with centuries of loneliness with her desperate cries clawing at my very soul as Ure pulled her away.

“Go, I can handle her,” Ure managed to say through the mind link, and yet I could sense his struggle against the small woman.

I nodded at him as I quickly took off leaving the two behind with Caoimhe still struggling against Ure as he attempted to keep her within his arms so he could carry her away.

This is all I can do to save her, I thought just as I felt the presence of my beast take over my mind and body.

A piercing howl erupted from my lips just as my skin began to crack and tear along my face causing my muscles to painfully extend with new bone growing at a rapid rate. I continued to run just as Cassius had trained me to do and hunched over onto the ground just as the bones within my forearms and legs began to snap in half, they began to painfully rearrange themselves until a new type of shape took form. I growled viciously at the intruders as I finally took that moment to shake out my newly grown fur as I dug my large paws into the icy earth.

“Run,” I demanded of Ure as the intruders now stood before me with their enlarged bodies hunched over as they prepared to leap forward to spread my intestines all over the exposed earth.

It was at that moment when the adrenaline was pumping through my veins when I heard her familiar scream once again as she forcefully pushed Ure away causing him to go flying by an unknown force as she ran towards me.

No! I thought just as the wolves lunged at me.
