The Cursed Bloodline

Chapter Twenty-Four - Fate and despair

Ch. 24 / 40 Aug 14, 2024

Caoimhe:

I stared at the young woman who was meant to be my younger sister and yet all I felt at that moment was nothing but disdain and remorse towards her, there was no familial bond, a bond I instinctually knew I was meant to feel towards the woman who knelt uncomfortably on her knees from before me as her contractions grew in volume. Nothing drew me to her as I stared down at the pregnant woman’s face. What I felt instead was burning hatred towards the innocent girl who I shared blood with, she may have only been half my blood sister and yet that was not enough to make me feel sympathy towards her. The person who I wanted to express my wrath towards was the man who felt as if he could control this girl's every move, he may have who helped create her but he knew nothing about her, Svarog was the man who was both mine and Lelia’s father.

He is the one who will pay for his sins, I thought to myself as I took a deep breath inwards as I attempted to compose myself.

“Who are you?” Lelia demanded once again as she grew tired of my silence.

“Death,” Caoimhe simply said with a slight smile.

“What-“ Lelia started to say before she was interrupted by a massive contraction that ricochets throughout her entire body.

She finally buckled over from the pain she was in as she clenched her stomach protectively, she knew just as well as I did that something was gravely wrong with her unborn child.

He’s a child who is as good as dead if Svarog gets a hold of him, I thought to myself as I sensed the fading life of my mate within my sister’s womb.

Is it possible to save him? I wondered to myself.

It wasn’t an implausible idea that I was capable of altering the events of the past, Surely I wasn’t able to know how they occurred in the first place and yet I was determined to change the fate of my mate, even if he ceased to exist in my current present.

Are you sure you want to wipe away the Odin that you know, forever? I asked myself uncertainly.

No answer came to my question as I continued to question my future actions.

I will make them fear the goddess of death, I thought to myself as Lelia desperately attempted to remove her pants so that she could effectively deliver her child into the world.

Screams erupted from the girls small frame as she finally began to push down on her muscles as each contraction seemed to tear he apart, the child who was coming at that moment was her first child, and I knew at that moment that his life was one that Lelia would never forget about. I watched as Lelia scooped her hands from under her as her palms began to fill with blood, It only took a moment before a head full of dark brown hair emerged from her nether regions as she captured his fragile body with her awaiting hands.

Conri, I thought to myself as I felt his life slowly fading away.

“He is completely blue!” Lelia said desperately now as she held his tiny body within her arms.

His umbilical cord had been wrapped tightly around his neck as the child lay motionless within her arms, his lips were a pale blue as the infant had yet to capture his first breath of life. He was indeed dying with his heartbeat growing fainter the longer time passed, time seemed to run slowly now as Lelia worked hard to remove the bloodied cord from around her son's neck and yet not even that would save him. I watched as Lelia cradled the infant within her arms the moment the cord was freed and yet her son was as good as dead, I could feel my heart beginning to shatter as I felt the life of my first mate begin to fade away, It was something I had felt centuries ago and yet the pain never faded away.

I couldn’t comprehend my thoughts, thoughts that seemed to scatter from the very recesses of my mind. It only took a moment for the truth to come to me, Conri was the reason why Odin was alive. I swallowed deeply as I continued to do what fate demanded of me, I observed as Lelia cancelled out everything that surrounded her and continued to cling to her unmoving child, a child who had been the prophesied child of creation, he was the child that would help Raise the goddess of death.

I wanted Lelia to hate me, to fear me, I wanted every generation that emerged from her womb to fear the existence of the goddess of death, this was what Svarog made me so it was what I would become. I would haunt each first-born generation that emerged from his bloodline until I got what was rightfully mine.

What is rightfully mine, I thought to myself.

Odin, I thought after a moment as his handsome face emerged into my mind.

His name was a sobering thought that I needed after a harsh day when the rain clouds refused to disperse, he was the only man who I considered as my rival, the only one who could tame the unruly beast that resided within me, he was the only one who could contain me. He was the reason why I was willing to go through such depths to secure what was mine as I knew deep down that what I was about to do would bring my mate to me.

I longed for Odin’s deep blue eyes to gaze into mine once again and yet I still wasn’t sure how to escape this realm that I had found myself in. Everything that surrounded me felt as if it were a nightmare and yet I knew deep down that this nightmare was real whether I wanted to believe it or not. I knew that Odin couldn’t pull me out this time just as he had done when I was held prisoner within the Dead Sea. no, this was a prison that I had to escape from for myself.

It was then when I knew what I needed to do.

I will take her child.
