Odin POV:
What is going on?
Chaos rose from the crumbled ground as a blinding flash of light erupted from around us, I clenched my golden eyes shut and yet the distorted rays scratched at my corneas causing things to blur. Massive claws grasped onto the desolate earth as veins made from pure gold bulged from their limitless forms as if some sort of conductor were moving their very limbs. The shattered earth continued to crumble from under the creatures as they formed into ancient-looking wolves, wolves who no longer roamed the land and went extinct centuries ago. An alpha led the horde as he stood beside Caoimhe with eyes made from gold and silver like the forms of his counterparts that surrounded him.
That wolf… I thought to myself before my thoughts were cut short.
“What’s going on?” Immoenne asked terrified as the wolves stood with their backs to her.
I could feel her anxiety beginning to rise as Ure was having a similar reaction, their eyes had grown wide as they watched the silver and blue-like creatures waver before us as their bodies hadn’t taken complete shape, they were partially see-through as their golden veins pumped a honey-like substance through their veins and yet every strand of their faint bluish fur was incredibly clear. Their alpha stood proudly before them as he pressed his massive weight against Caoimhe as if to claim her as his own, there was something about that notion that erupted a sense of jealousy within me and yet I felt as if it were misplaced.
“What the hell is going on?” Ure asked as his gray fur along his neck stood on end.
“I don’t think their focus is on us,” I said as I attempted to remain calm.
I wasn’t sure how to handle this situation as id never encountered an army of shadow souls before.
Shadow souls? I thought confused as the term came to me almost naturally.
There were many things that I didn’t understand at that moment, it was as if a part of my soul were missing and I was only realizing it now, I groaned out loud from the frustration of the situation. Caoimhe looked over at me as she heard the groan part from my lips and a look of concern crossed her face for a moment before she was forced to glance at the scene before her. Mattias had taken a moment and regathered his pack and was giving them orders to attack the creatures that now stood before them, creatures who were looking on yearningly with drool dripping from their canines as if they desired the blood of our enemies.
What are they? I thought only my thoughts unexpectedly reached Caoimhe.
They’ve come to help, Caoimhe said in a reassuring tone.
I wanted to calm down and relax within the gentle caress of her voice and yet I couldn’t stop looking towards the massive alpha who stood by my mate's side, his fur was pitch black unlike those of his packmates with his form being completely solid with no golden hues ripping through. It was as if he were a living and breathing creature who was claiming my mate as his own, I glared at him as a possessive growl escaped me just as my paws took on a mind of their own and lunged towards the beast.
His familiar golden eyes glanced over at me as he sensed my movements and stood before Caoimhe protectively, his entire body easy towered over her as Caoimhe ran her fingers through his thick fur.
“No!” I snarled angrily as she willingly touched him.
“She’s mine!” I roared as I extended my canines and leaped for the beast’s neck.
“Odin, wait!” Caoimhe said panicked as she glanced at the shadow souls that surrounded us.
I hadn’t noticed as they turned their attention on me as I attacked their alpha and yet I couldn’t care less at that moment if they all attacked me, their alpha had laid his claim on my woman and she hadn’t seemed phased by it.
“No!” Caoimhe ordered as she glared at the damned souls that surrounded us.
They were about to attack and claw me from their Alpha until her voice stilled their movements as if she was a puppeteer and they were her puppets, I stared in awe as she held the ultimate control before the alpha from under me snapped his jaws at me. I glanced down at him confused as he nipped at my snout, I growled at him as I dug my claws into his mighty chest causing his thick skin to tear open as black blood oozed from his fresh wound.
“Don’t worry about them, Conri will be fine,” Caoimhe assured the souls who surrounded us.
Conri? I thought confused as the name struck a chord of familiarity.
Their expressions seemed to relax as they took a step back, it was at that moment when Mattias approached the pack of Shadow Wolves with Essen leading his pack, her familiar white wolf stunk of petulance as her eyes glared at those who stood in her way. The alpha named Conri refused to attack me back as he bled from under me, there was a knowing look in his eyes as he struggled from under me and yet I felt like his new wound didn’t phase him.
“Attack the enemy!” Caoimhe ordered as she pointed towards Mattias and his pack as they approached them with determination.
Time seemed to slow as my mate appeared to change from before me, she was a breath-taking creature with soul-piercing silver-blue eyes and silver silk spun hair, something within me awoke the moment our eyes met, something resided there that was dark and ominous. The once golden eyes of my wolf shifted to an icy blue as I held the gaze of death, her true intentions were revealed as a single word was uttered from her lips.
“Kill them,” Caoimhe ordered as the two armies finally collided.
