Caoimhe’s POV:
Within the depths of his heart,
The Ayer bloodline will fall apart.
The familiar words recited themselves in a voice that was not my own, instead, it belonged to the woman who birthed me and gave her life to save mine. I wasn’t sure what the words meant but they chilled me to the bone as Ure successfully pulled me from Odin’s back and held me back while my mate rushed away from us.
Don’t go, I wanted to plead just as Ure held me from around my waist.
Don’t die again! I wanted to scream only for the words to catch in my throat.
Odin! I thought as a haunting scream tore through my lungs.
The deep and damaging sense of loneliness tore through my small frame as centuries of experiencing the traumatic loss over my mate ripped through me, I could see every moment in his past lives as each of his fathers took his newborn soul from his weeping mother and stole him away to the far north where the infant's body would be tossed into the raging dead sea. I wanted to cry out each time I bore witness to his tiny form sinking beneath the newly cracked ice and wept as he took his final breath within the frigid waters that took his life each time. Each time my hatred for his bloodline grew as they tore my mate away from me with each generation, and with each generation, the hole within my soul slowly grew denser and denser until all that was left remaining was the burning hatred.
The ground from beneath me began to quiver as the air around us drew dense, wrapping around us in a steadily growing fury. Ure's grasp had tightened around me as he stared at the whirlwind growing from around us and encircling us. I clenched my opal-like eyes shut tightly as I finally allowed something within me release and vibrate through my body with a mad fury. Ure’s hold from around my waist suddenly released as a strong force pushed him away causing him to collapse to the ground a few feet away from where I stood.
I’m sorry, I thought to myself as shifted my focus from Ure over to Odin who stood a few yards away.
My body began to pulsate as the air around me grew dense and as cold as death as I opened my eyes to reveal icy blue irises, my eyes began to shimmer as if alive with ice and water flowing deep within their depths. I looked up at Odin and met his gaze as his wolf form stared back at me with confusion, I could sense the surprise that was coursing through his head as he struggled to process what was going on as he contemplated the sudden force that had propelled Ure a few feet from me while I remained unharmed. His golden irises were those of his beast, the sight of him made my heart race as I took in the beautiful sight of my mate in his wolf form.
I quickly glanced up as the intruder wolves closed in on Odin, they reeked of death and blood, I revelled in death and yet there was something about these intruders that was unnatural and bloodthirsty. The first of the pack of wolves reached Odin as blood covered saliva dripped from the mouth of the beast as he bore his canines at Odin, Odin’s thick Auburn fur stood on end as he released a warning growl before two large figures lunged for each other. Loud whimpers filled the air as the Odin immediately lowered his body to the ground and swooped up in time to bite down on the rogue’s neck. He clamped his jaw down causing fresh blood to splatter across the ground as his golden eyes shimmered with rage as he flipped the wolf's body over until it collided with the ice from under him.
“We need to leave!” Ure said groggily as he held head, it took him a moment to fully stand on his feet before he could take in the scene that was going on before him.
I shook my head no as I watch in horror as two other wolves watched as their leader lay in a crumbled and lifeless mess before Odin. A primal and enraged howl escaped their lips as they chose that moment to leap forward and pushed their body weight into Odin's wolf causing him to stumble backward as the rogue wolves bit their sharpened canines down into his flesh causing Odin’s fresh blood to ooze from newly opened wounds.
I watched in horror as they overpowered my mate and pinned him down to the ground with his flowing blood coating their mouths, there was something off about these beasts, something unnatural that craved blood and death. The scent reeked from their very souls; it caused a familiar feeling to stir from within me as I took an uncertain step towards my mate as he desperately struggled against the overpowered troop.
“No!” I finally shouted out loud as I reached my hand out as if to stop them from moving.
I could feel the wind within my bones and the ground at my fingertips, the cold and barren earth was mine to control and mine alone. The centuries of deceased bodies buried within its depths gave me power and unlimited access to ancient old knowledge that was before thought to have been long forgotten. I was determined to be a force to be reckoned with and I would show those who threatened my mate that they wouldn’t live long so long as I was there to protect him.
I will not let them take him from me again,” I thought as I put all of my focus into what happened next.
“No!” I heard Odin shout through the mind link as his desperate golden eyes stared at me as he tore his claws into one of the wolf’s necks spilling its blood.
It was unusual that I could hear his beast’s thoughts already as the mind link shouldn’t have been available to me until he was officially my mate. My icy blue eyes glowed brighter as if gazing at winter solstice, I released a piercing scream that caused the earth from around me to shatter as stones began to float around my body with their sharp edges facing the intruders just as one of them finally looked up with his golden eyes and noticed what was going on. The air gently caressed my olive skin and swept itself from around me as if clinging to me and wrapped itself around my ebony hair causing the long strands to float from around my body as I was gently lifted from the crumbling ground until I was now floating in mid-air.
I reached my hand out before me with my palm facing the sky, my fingers twitched slightly as my toes aimlessly pointed towards the shattered ground, nothing but pitch black surrounded the void less pit that now sat just under me. The shards of rock that surrounded me soon went flying towards Odin and the intruders just as another one finally reached him and lunged at him. The shards tore through the wolf’s abdomen just as he reached Odin causing its intestines to exit out from its body as more shards tore through its chest and neck. The rogue wolf lifelessly collapsed to the ground just before Odin and the other pure black wolf that he was still struggling against.
I arched my arm backward as I watched the bloodbath before me as Odin rammed his massive body weight into the wolf and took his sharpened canines into the wolf’s neck and tore at the flesh painting the ice-covered ground crimson. I threw my arm forward with my palm facing the fighting figures and felt as the talons of the endless wind whip forward and charge towards another wolf that had managed to climb on top of Odin and bit down on the back of Odin’s neck. Odin thrashed around as he struggled with the new wolf now on top of him, I flexed my fingers slightly and felt as the wind pierced the wolves abdomen only for the wind to whip back around to run through the wolves neck just as the wolf was about to bite down onto Odin’s throat.
Odin growled as the wolves now tore open neck splattered blood on Odin's lengthened nose.
No one will take him from me again, I thought just as my attention shifted to the remaining wolves who were closing in on Odin as he attempted to push the dead wolf off him with his paws.
“Die,” I said coldly as I sensed their raging heart beats within my palm.
I clenched my hand closed and watched as the wolves before we crumbled to the ground as their hearts suddenly stopped, their expressions revealed pure fear as they fell lifeless to the ground in unison with nothing but their final breaths revealing any life that they had possessed. I slowly willed the air to gently place me on the ground just before Odin and stared down at him with my haunting icy blue eyes that had known nothing but endless misery.
“What are you?” Odin breathed under his breath as he shifted back to his human counterpart, his words were quiet and yet the wind carried every word over to me.
“Death,” I replied as I stared down at him emotionless.
