Tish POV
As soon as the pack house was secure after the battle, Kaden and Kai rushed to find me. Both of them were naked and covered in blood, but I didn't care. I was so happy to see they were okay and together, but I didn't have them both for long.
Kaden left with Leo and a group of warriors for the rogue pack house to see who else they could round up. I begged for him to stay, but Raven convinced me that it needed to be done sooner rather than later. We cannot give them a chance to escape.
Now we are all sitting in the living room waiting to hear back from them. Raven keeps giving me an odd look from across the room as I cradle her twins in my arms.
"Just say it already," I groan quietly.
"How do you feel with a wolf in your mind?" She spits out.
Her blue eyes are boring into mine as she waits for an answer, but I have no idea what she is talking about.
"What wolf?" I ask.
"Narah's wolf," she says. "She was clear that she was going to give her to you when she died."
"There is no wolf in my mind," I say.
Raven jumps from her seat and starts pacing the floor in front of the couch. Oliver is trying to get her to calm down, but she is muttering nonsense under her breath.
Kai is sitting beside me with an amused look on his face. "And people say I'm crazy."
I glare in his direction, but he doesn't wipe the smirk off his lips. Raven's twins begin to squirm in my arms and I struggle to get them to settle.
"You don't feel any different?" Raven asks me again.
"No," I repeat myself. ''I feel the same."
"There isn't a voice in your mind speaking to you?" She asks.
"No," I say slowly. I get the feeling I am the one that is supposed to sound crazy, but it isn't coming across that way.
"I don't understand," Raven groans. "If Nyx isn't with you, where did she go when Narah died?"
"Don't you wolves die with you?" I ask.
"Not always," Oliver chimes in. "It is believed that a faction of werewolves were blessed by the Moon Goddess, but they abused their powers. When the Moon Goddess found out, she cursed the wolves with eternal life, jumping from body to body. Caring all of their memories with them."
"What does that have to do with me?" I groan.
"I thought Narah was giving you her wolf," Raven sighs. "But now it appears I was wrong."
"Maybe she gave her wolf to the baby," Kai says like it is no big deal.
Raven's eyes widen, but not in shock. She grits her teeth together and spits at Kai to shut up. But it is too late. I already realize she has already considered this, but she didn't want to admit it. Her eyes are narrowed at Kai but he doesn't care.
"Are you saying my daughter is going to be like Narah?" I shout so loudly that I wake the twins.
Edward and Winston start wailing, but I am too caught up in my own drama to soothe them. Raven takes Winston, and Oliver takes Edward while I try to come to terms with what they have just said.
"We don't know for sure that she has Nyx," Raven tries to reason with me. "We won't know until she is eighteen."
"But what if she is crazy like Mae's mother?" I continue to shout. "First, you and Narah both said that my child is supposed to tame the darkness of your twins, and now you are telling me that she will have an ancient wolf living inside her mind. I don't want that for my child."
"Narah was not crazy," Raven tells me. "She was misunderstood."
"You are the Luna Queen," I plead. "Can't you make this all go away?"
"That is beyond my power," Raven tells me. ''We have to trust in the Moon Goddess."
"What do you mean, our daughter is supposed to tame the darkness of the twins?" Kai questions. It is the most serious I have seen him in months.
"It is just a silly prophecy," I mutter.
"It is not silly," Raven retorts. "Without your daughter, my sons will lead the werewolf world into darkness. She is an integral part of the future of this world."
"When were you planning on telling me about this?" Kai growls.
"When I told Kaden," I sigh.
"What the fuck, Tish," he groans. "We can't keep secrets like this from each other."
I am desperate to change the subject. I don't want to think about my child being a lunatic. "Has anyone told Mae that her mother is dead?"
The room is silent. Raven and Oliver refuse to look at me, and Kai is humming to himself.
"I am sure she has seen," Raven finally says.
"No," I grumble. "Someone needs to call her. It is the right thing to do. We need to make sure she is okay."
Once again, no one says anything. I roll my eyes at their cowardice and get to my feet.
I storm out of the living room and head down the hallway to my office. My palms are sweating as I pull out my phone and dial Mae's number.
She doesn't answer. Kieran does. "Hello," he grumbles.
"Is she okay?" I ask, knowing that she already knows why I am calling.
"She has been better," he responds. "Did you get Nyx?"
"Why does everyone keep asking me that? There is no magical wolf in my mind," I whisper.
"Do you want to talk to her?" Kieran asks.
"Does she want to talk to me?" I retort.
The other end of the call is silent. For a moment, I think he hung up, but then I hear sniffling.
"Mae," I sigh. "I am so very sorry."
"You don't have to be sorry. I know you didn't like her," Mae cries. "Just take care of Nyx."
"I don't have the stupid wolf," I groan in exasperation.
"No," Mae whimpers. "I saw it. I saw Nyx's spirit move into your body."
"She isn't with me," I grumble.
"Your child," Mae gasps.
"It appears so," I reply.
"What Else aren't you telling me?" Mae whispers.
"Nothing," I lie. I don't want to burden her with the prophecy.
