Kai POV
I can hear the alarms blaring from my hospital room. The South Pack is under attack, and I can do nothing about it.
They have pumped me full of medication that is supposed to silence my wolf, but he is suddenly awake in my mind. Fang is clawing at the corners of my mind, trying to break free. I do not know how long I can keep him at bay.
A pair of dark blue eyes peer through the glass of my door. They belong to that bitch of a nurse who has belittled me every day. Only now, her eyes aren't full of humor. They are afraid.
I slam my hands on either side of the small window, and she jumps back in fear.
"Let me out," I command her.
She shakes her head nervously.
"I can't," she mutters. "I am supposed to make sure you stay captive."
I throw my head back and laugh loudly. "This was the plan. To drive me insane so I can't protect my pack."
"This pack belongs to Alpha Fernando," she says, but her words are not confident.
"What are they giving you for your loyalty?" I growl.
"They have my sister," she chokes out. "I would do anything for her."
Fang is slowly taking over my body. His claws are extending from my fingertips, and it burns. I relish in the pain. It makes me feel alive.
The nurse inches closer to the door, not knowing the danger that awaits her on the other side. Her face is almost pressed against the glass as she looks in my room. She is getting brave and I could not be more excited.
"Too bad you won't get to say goodbye to your mate," she smirks. "You seem to really love her."
I flex my hands at my sides and let out a ragged breath. "You are a stupid bitch for bringing her into this."
Fang pushes to the surface, and I can feel my eyes glowing with his power. The nurse lets out a scream, but before she can alert anyone, I punch through the glass and grab her around the neck. Pieces of glass stick out from my hand at jagged angles, causing blood to trickle down my hand.
She tries to shift, but I am cutting off her air supply. Her fingernails dig into my hand, drawing more blood to the surface, but the pain only fuels Fang.
"Unlock the door," I say calmly.
"You will kill me if I do," she gasps for air.
"I will kill you if you don't," I warn her.
I don't let go of her neck as she fumbles with the keys. Eventually, she manages to unlock the door. I let go of her neck and step into the hallway.
The smell of urine fills my senses, and I look the nurse up and down. There is a puddle growing at her feet. She is frozen to the spot with fear.
"Run," I tease her before Fang completely takes over.
It has been so long since I have shifted the process is painful, but I let the feeling wash over me.
Fang shakes out his black fur and watches as the nurse tries to run away. She doesn't get far before Fang tackles her to the ground and rips her to pieces.
The taste of blood on his tongue is tangy and leaves him wanting more.
'Kill anyone that stands in our way,' I tell him.
'Gladly,' he growls.
We race through the hospital. No one dares to stop us or get in our way. The sliding doors open, and Fang pauses to take in the sight before him.
It is a blood bath. There is no telling how far the battle stretches, but I am positive they are headed for the pack house. That is no doubt where Tish and Raven are.
Fang leaps into battle. He is determined to save Tish and our unborn pup. He is relentless as he makes his way through the rogue warriors, refusing to leave any alive.
With each kill, he gets stronger. Rogues try to take him down, but he throws them to the side with ease. I have lost count of the number of throats he has ripped out and the number of rogues he has maimed.
The pack house is in view. I can see Kaden's wolf, Apollo, trying to protect the pack house. His black fur is covered in a sheen coat of blood. Our eyes meet and his blue eyes glow brightly.
'Good to see you, brother,' he says through the mind link.
'Who is in charge of the rogues?' I demand to know.
'Fernando,' Kaden replies as he rips another rogue to pieces. 'But he is being protected.'
'Where is he?' I demand to know.
'Behind the pack house, trying to get into the dungeons,' Kaden's voice is strained, even through the mind link. He is getting tired.
'I will go after him,' I tell Kaden.
Before he can respond, a new voice breaks into my mind. 'I am coming with you.'
Fang turns to his left and an ancient silver wolf is pawing at the ground angrily. I have no idea who she is, but she looks ready to fight. Fang doesn't give me a chance to ask questions, before he races in the direction of Fernando.
Fang skids to a stop when he sees him. He hasn't bothered to shift into his wolf form, and he is barking directions at his rogues. The silver wolf jumps into the fray, trying to take down as many rogues as she can. She is failing horribly, and I am torn. She has their attention, and I could go after Fernando. But that would be leaving her to die.
'I came to die,' her voice rings in my mind.
Fang nods at her in respect and barrels in Fernando's direction. He doesn't notice Fang quickly enough. His attention was on the battle with the silver wolf.
The silver wolf is howling in pain, but I do not take my eyes off Fernando. His eyes are wide, and the smell of fear is thick around him. He did not expect to see me in this battle.
"You wouldn't attack an old friend, would you?" He chuckles nervously.
Fang growls in response and begins to circle him. Fernando does his best not to turn his back on Fang but is failing.
Fernando begins to panic, and I wonder why he has not shifted into his wolf.
"I will let you take me," he begs. "Just don't kill me."
'He is too dangerous to be left alive,' I tell Fang.
In one swift lunge, Fang has Fernando pinned beneath him. He sucks in a sharp breath and closes his eyes, waiting for my attack.
Fang wraps his mouth around Fernando's throat and bites down. Blood pours from his neck, and the sound of his spine crunching echoes in the night. Shaking his body viciously, Fang makes sure he is dead before dropping him to the ground. I shift back into my human form and grab Fernando's ankle.
Blood covers every inch of my naked body, but I don't care. None of it belongs to me. I drag Fernando's body to the front of the pack house and drop it on the porch.
"Your fearless leader is dead," I scream over the fighting. "He died like a coward, begging for his life."
Instantly, the night becomes silent. Everyone is looking in my direction. Then, as one, the rogues try to flee. But they do not get far. Some surrender, begging for their lives. Others fight and die. The war for the South Pack is over and we have won.
I let my shoulders sag in relief until the Luna Queen approaches me.
"Where is Narah?" She asks with tears in her eyes. I stare at her blankly. I have no idea who she is talking about. "The silver wolf," She explains.
Shame washes over me. The silver wolf sacrificed herself to help me, but I didn't even know her name. Raven is staring at me hopefully, waiting for a response.
"Dead," I whisper, unable to look into her eyes.
Raven relaxes and nods in understanding, "It is what she wanted."
