Winston POV
Edward has his arms wrapped around Anita. He is nuzzling his nose into her neck, and she is giggling loudly.
I can smell her floral scent from here, and I don't know how Edward can be so close to her. After being around Macy's scent, it is all I want to smell forever. Just sitting here, I can imagine her sweet chocolate scent. It is so strong, it is like she is here.
Then Edward looks up from Anita and his eyes are darkened. He lifts his nose into the air and smirks. 'She is here,' he laughs through the mind link.
"Holy shit," a guy behind me gasps. "Is that Crazy Macy? When did she get so fucking hot?"
I follow his gaze, and she is not hard to spot. All of the other girls are wearing bright colors, but not Macy. She is moving through the crowd, looking like a dark goddess.
I stand to go to her, but Edward shakes his head. 'Let's see how she fairs on her own for a moment.'
I sit back down and grit my teeth together; I don't want to share her. The guy from behind me is already making his way to her with a cup in his hand.
Edward and I watch as he leans in close to her and whispers into her ear. A deep blush spreads over her face, and a growl rumbles in my chest. She takes the cup from him and glances in our direction. Her eyes narrow together when she sees Anita in Edward's arms.
I can see the anger flashing in her eyes from here. She didn't mean what she said about not wanting us. Now she thinks we have moved on. I can't help but find it a little comical. She came all the way here to try and make us jealous. Two can play this game.
A girl is walking by, and I grab her wrist, pulling her onto my lap. She squeals loudly but doesn't protest. She has been trying to get my attention all night.
"What is your name, Beautiful?" I ask the girl, not taking my eyes off Macy.
"Nicole," she blushes.
Macy's eyes flash red for a moment, and her nostrils flare. She lifts her cup to her lips and finishes it quickly. The guy with her is quick to hand her his, and she drinks it just as fast.
'She is going to get drunk,' I tell Edward.
'Let her,' he shrugs. 'You didn't want her earlier. You can't change your mind now. You set her free.'
Nicole settles into my lap, grinding herself against me. It is annoying, but I don't stop her because it is fueling Macy's anger.
'I wanted her,' I tell Edward. 'I just chickened out. I'm afraid once I taste her, there will be no going back. We have plans.'
Edward laughs out loud. 'You are playing a dangerous game with that girl on your lap. She will never forgive you now.'
'That was the plan, wasn't it?' I sigh.
While I am speaking silently to Edward, several other guys have approached Macy. All of them are offering her drinks and she is drinking them all.
"I don't get it," Anita glares in Macy's direction. "They all make fun of her at school. What's so great about her now?"
"Are you jealous?" Edward laughs.
"Of course not," she scoffs, but her jealousy is written all over her face.
"I don't know," Nicole butts in. "There is something different about her tonight. She looks like she is glowing."
I take another look at Macy, but she is gone. Panic fills my chest because I realize one of the guys is gone, too. Edward has noticed, too.
'You have to get her out of here,' a strange voice enters my mind.
I look at Edward and I think he got the same message. 'Who is this?' he growls back.
'Nyx,' Macy's wolf responds. 'There is something you don't know about her. It is waking up, and she won't be able to control herself. Please.'
Edward shoves Anita off him and I do the same to Nicole. We waste no time following her scent up the stairs and into one of the bedrooms. I kick the door open and find the guy hovering over an unconscious Macy. He looks over his shoulder and growls possessively. Grabbing him by the shoulder, I rip him off her.
He quickly gets to his feet. For some reason, he is prepared to fight for her. Then I hear footsteps coming up the stairs. Every guy at the party is coming for her. They are fighting each other on the stairs. The scent of blood is thick in the air.
"Get her out of here," I yell to Edward.
"You can't shift," he reminds me as he picks her up carefully from the bed.
He is right. No one knows what we are, and Mom has made sure to keep it a secret. She claimed she didn't know what lycans coming back into the Human Realm meant, but I am beginning to think she lied.
Male wolves are beginning to crowd into the bedroom. Edward and I are trapped inside with Macy. My claws are extended, ready to fight for my mate.
Someone lunges in Edward's direction, but I swipe my claws across his face. He falls to the ground, but it doesn't stop him from trying to crawl toward her.
"What the fuck is going on?" Edward growls.
More wolves pile into the room, and I know I cannot take them all. Not in my human form. I will have to shift in order to save her.
"Enough," a voice I don't want to hear yells over the fighting. Everyone takes a knee, and the house is silent. My mother pushes through the crowd with Macy's fathers at her side.
"Go home," Mom commands.
Most get to their feet and leave, but a few are still so desperate to get to Macy that they fight against her command. My mother's growl fills the room and the rest leave whimpering.
Alpha Kaden approaches Edward to take Macy, but Edward growls at him.
"Let me have my daughter," Alpha Kaden says calmly.
"Mine," Edward growls in return.
"What is going on?" Mom groans.
I stand beside Edward in an attempt to protect Macy. My brain knows they won't hurt her, but I cannot stop the snarl on my lips. Suddenly, the shadow of a wolf appears in the room. She looks like she is made of nothing more than mist. I instantly know it is Nyx.
"Secrets," the wolf struggles to speak. "Uncover the secrets, but protect them."
Then, the wolf fades into thin air.
"Fuck," Mom groans. "Just what we need more secrets."
