Love after Divorce

34: In Shock

Ch. 34 / 127 Apr 15, 2026

Mason narrates:

My secretary informs me that the girl coming from the college in another city is already here, it just so happens to be the same college where Peyton studied. I settle into my seat for the interview and when I see that it is my Peyton who enters with my secretary, I am grateful to be seated, I could have easily fallen down from the shock.

Left alone I question her as to why she is visiting, as happy as I am to have her here it's not good, not good at all. I promised her that no one would find out and that I would not see Peyton again, at least not for the time we are still married.

Finally, I can't watch her leave with tears in her eyes, I'm not that much of a bastard to do something like that. I take her hand and pull her to me and kiss her, I can't help it.

I missed her so much that I can't believe I have her here with me, feeling her hands in my hair is a weakness for me and she knows it, I grab her buttocks and pin her against the wall. One thing leads to another, and I end up having sex with her in the office.

It was irresponsible of me, I didn't even lock the office door while she's in the bathroom, there's a knock on the door and I don't get to say anything because Riley comes in smiling. Seeing me fixing my pants and shirt she understands what happened here a few minutes ago. I look at the bathroom door nervously and she smiles mischievously thinking it's her friend in the bathroom, I'm not able to say anything, just not to say it. She nods and leaves the office.

At that moment I realize the mistake I made, I got carried away by the sensations of the moment and didn't think about the consequences I would have later.

I knock on the bathroom door; Peyton comes out with a smile and when she sees me, she stops smiling. I explain to her that the best thing to do is to go to the hotel, I have things to solve, she nods and leaves. When I'm alone I drop on the couch I have in my office, I put my hands on my head while my conscience scolds me for the little sanity, I had a few minutes ago. What the fuck was I thinking to do something like that?

What am I going to do now? I can't call Paige and tell her to pretend she was with me in my office, I can't ask Riley not to say anything either because she'll suspect it's not her friend she was with. My secretary is another point to think about, she knows Paige and seeing Riley leave here it is obvious she knew what was going on here, I know she won't say anything to my wife, but, just as I know she is disappointed in me. I don't need to see her to know that she has always been like an aunt to me, this time will be no different.

I think so much, and I can't find a solution for this, only two options, I tell Paige or Riley, I don't know what the difference is. In the end my wife is going to find out anyway, I drop my head on the desk banging myself a little to see if this way my brain cells understand that I can't lose again the little confidence I'm gaining with Paige.

I curse my luck, my weakness to Peyton, this was a very big mistake. I grab my phone and dial Paige's number, I have to tell her everything, or almost everything. Fuck I don't even know what I'm going to tell her, the only thing I can be sure of is that she won't take this well at all and she's right to feel that way, I mean, I wouldn't want her to sleep with others in the same place she works and have them know she's married to me.

I dialed her cell phone number, feeling nervous and tense.

"Hello?" Paige answered.

"Hi, can we meet for lunch? It's something urgent and important," I say, sounding very nervous.

"Uh, sure. Are you coming to pick me up, or shall we meet somewhere?" she asks casually.

"I'll come to pick you up. See you," I say, ending the call without saying goodbye.

I send a message to Ethan, asking him to let Paige leave work earlier. The sooner I talk to her, the better. I don't want Riley to say anything and further erode my wife's trust.

My friend authorizes me to pick her up, and I appreciate that he doesn't ask more questions.

I arrive unannounced at Paige's office, and she looks surprised to see me here so quickly.

"There's still an hour until lunch," she says, checking the time on her watch.

"I know, but what I have to tell you is very urgent," I say nervously.

"Alright, I'll inform Ethan..." she says, reaching for the office phone.

"I already told him. Before coming here, I asked for permission to take you out of work early," I say, smiling.

"Okay, let's go then," she replies, grabbing her bag.

We head to the elevator, and I can't stay still. As if that weren't enough, my phone rings with a call from Peyton. She notices who is calling when she sees me, but neither of us says anything. I just end the call.

I sigh and clear my throat while we get into the car. She doesn't look at me, and I'm too ashamed of what I did to meet her gaze.

Halfway there, I veer off and park the car in a parking lot to talk to her now. I can't handle the pressure I'm feeling any longer.

"I'm truly sorry, but I made a mistake, and I feel like the worst man in the world. I don't want to lose our friendship, and I understand that what I'm about to tell you will make you angry. I won't make any excuses because the only explanation is that I was weak and a complete idiot who didn't think about anything," I stumble over my words.

"I already know," she interrupts, and I stop speaking.

"What do you mean you already know? What do you know?" I ask, confused.

"Well, I don't know everything, obviously, but Riley sent me a message complaining that I went to see you without stopping to say hello to her. You know she can be a bit toxic sometimes," she says, laughing.

"I had sex with a woman in the office. Riley thought it was you because she walked in just as I was fixing my clothes, but she didn't see who the woman was. I'm really sorry. It won't happen again," I justify myself nervously.

"Calm down, it's normal to have sex, the body demands us every so often. Don't worry, just make sure you don't get caught, remember our agreement "she tells me calmly and I feel that it's not my wife I'm talking to.

I look at her with a confused expression, that's it, she's not going to be upset. I think I'm in shock.
