Bound By Blood

Chapter 97

Ch. 97 / 100 Jun 22, 2025

The heart of the temple was a sight that stole breath and replaced it with reverence—and dread. A circular chamber bathed in an eerie red glow spread before them, its walls carved with ancient runes pulsating faintly with life. At the center stood a pedestal of obsidian, and upon it rested Aelara’s crown.

The crown was unlike anything Ella had ever seen. It gleamed with veins of crimson and black, as though forged from blood and shadow. Each delicate curve of its metal seemed alive, pulsating with a faint, rhythmic energy that mirrored the pulse of the blood bond. It wasn’t just an artifact; it was alive, aware, and waiting.

Ella took an involuntary step forward, her breath catching. The pull toward the crown was undeniable, a magnetic force that seemed to resonate in her very bones.

“It’s beautiful,” Sebastian murmured, his voice low and reverent. His golden eyes reflected the crown’s glow, a mix of admiration and longing flickering across his face. “And powerful. Can you feel it?”

Adrian stepped in front of Ella, his body tense, his icy-blue eyes fixed on the crown with unmasked hostility. “Stay back, Ella,” he commanded, his tone sharper than she’d ever heard it. “That thing is a trap.”

“It’s more than a trap,” Lucien said, his voice carrying from the edge of the chamber where he examined the runes. “The crown is tied directly to Aelara’s essence. Its energy is unstable—dangerous.”

Ella’s fingers twitched, the pull growing stronger with each passing moment. “But it’s part of me, isn’t it?” she said softly, her voice laced with wonder and fear. “I can feel it calling me.”

“You don’t need to answer that call,” Adrian snapped, stepping closer to her, his hands gripping her shoulders. “Ella, listen to me. That crown will consume you. It’s not salvation; it’s destruction.”

Vincent, standing a few feet away, watched in silence, his dark eyes shadowed. His calm presence was a stark contrast to Adrian’s sharp panic. “Ella needs to decide for herself,” he said finally, his voice quiet but firm. “We can’t make this choice for her.”

Adrian turned on him, his anger flaring. “You think letting her touch that thing is a choice? It’s a death sentence!”

“And keeping her powerless isn’t any better,” Sebastian interjected, stepping closer to the crown. His gaze didn’t leave it as he spoke. “Look at her, Adrian. She’s drawn to it because it’s hers. It belongs to her, and denying that will only weaken her. You can’t shield her from her own destiny.”

Ella glanced between the brothers, her chest tightening as the bond surged with their emotions—Adrian’s fear, Vincent’s quiet resolve, Sebastian’s dangerous curiosity. It was overwhelming, the intensity of their feelings pressing against her like a tide threatening to drown her.

“I can’t destroy it,” Adrian said, his voice breaking the tension. He raised his hand, magic crackling at his fingertips as he aimed it toward the crown. “But I can make sure it doesn’t destroy her.”

“Don’t!” Ella’s voice cut through the air, sharper than she intended. Her hands instinctively reached out, and a burst of power flared from her, throwing Adrian back a step. The bond pulsed violently, its rhythm chaotic.

Adrian stared at her, his expression torn between shock and hurt. “Ella…”

“I’m sorry,” she whispered, her voice trembling. “But I need to understand this. I need to know who I am.”

Sebastian’s smirk returned, though it was softer now, tinged with something deeper. “That’s more like it,” he said, stepping closer to her side. “Claim what’s yours, Ella.”

Vincent moved to her other side, his presence grounding her as always. “Whatever you decide, I’ll be here,” he said quietly. His hand brushed against hers, a small, comforting gesture that sent a wave of warmth through the bond.

Ella stepped toward the pedestal, the crown’s pull growing almost unbearable. The closer she came, the louder the whispers in her mind grew—Aelara’s voice, coaxing, promising.

“You were born to rule,” the voice said, as clear as if Aelara were standing beside her. “This is your destiny. Your power.”

Her fingers hovered just above the crown, the energy radiating from it brushing against her skin like a lover’s caress. The blood bond surged wildly, each brother’s emotions crashing into her like a storm. Adrian’s terror, Vincent’s unwavering loyalty, Sebastian’s hungry anticipation—it all swirled within her, threatening to tear her apart.

“Ella,” Adrian’s voice broke through the haze, desperate and raw. “Please. Don’t do this.”

She turned to look at him, her heart aching at the fear in his eyes. “I’m not wearing it,” she said, her voice steady despite the chaos inside her. “Not yet. But I won’t leave it here, either.”

With trembling hands, she lifted the crown from its pedestal. The moment her fingers touched the cool metal, a surge of energy shot through her, bringing her to her knees. Visions flooded her mind—Aelara on her throne, armies bowing before her, blood staining the ground.

The bond pulsed violently, the brothers dropping to their knees as they felt the surge through their connection. Ella gasped, her grip on the crown tightening as the visions faded.
