Andrei could only ponder about these fleeting thoughts, but it was too late to turn back time. He sighed and endured his headache as he sat up on the bed. He faced his grandmother.
“Grandma, the company is about to be bankrupt, and Damon Castellano wants me to transfer in another city.”
He said as he stared directly at Ellen’s eyes. The reality he tried so hard to avoid, to the point he couldn’t accept and say it out loud, was finally spilled from his own mouth.
There was no point in hiding and rejecting the truth. The past days he spent drinking his days away, and the mental torment of his situation, and made him numb.
But it made him open his eyes. He calmly said these words, and looked at his grandmother with a neutral expression.
But Ellen was the one who couldn’t believe it. She froze and watch her grandson’s expression.
“What?! It’s just the same as throwing us out! How could he not give us face!” Ellen burst out. She can’t help but curse Damon Castellano.
“Why the hell would he do that?”
Andrei heard her question in he gritted his teeth as he remembered how that man treated his wife as if she was his.
“It’s because of Anya.” He revealed.
Ellen can’t help but gasp. All this time she thought Damon’s problem about Andrei is about his performance. She knew her grandson can be stubborn and arrogant at times.
But this was actually because of that lowly woman?!
“That slut again! I told you she was a misfortune for our family!” Ellen cursed Anya as well.
From the beginning, Ellen loathed Anya. She thinks very highly of their family, and she believes her grandson deserves so much better than a lowly orphan girl like her. but Andrei was very stubborn about marrying that woman, and as someone who greatly spoiled her grandson, Ellen could only give what he wanted. But she never made Anya’s life that easy.
Andrei furrowed his brows because of this. He perfectly knew now what Anya had done for them. It was them who should be thankful for her.
“Grandma, when we were on the brink of bankruptcy at the past..”
Andrei could only drag his words and finally raise his gaze and stared resolutely at Ellen.
“It was because of Anya that we recovered. She found the Castellanos to cooperate with us.. by doing a surrogacy.” He finally revealed.
Ellen froze when she heard this. That woman?
“Without her, the Castellanos wouldn’t do business with us and we might never had a comeback.” Andrei words rang in Ellen’s ears.
The truth was beyond her expectation.
“No..” She could only whisper. Andrei sighed in response, but his gaze were absolute.
Ellen remembered how badly she treated Anya. How she called her a slut and a lot of names. But she was actually their benefactor.
Her old visage trembled and she burst into tears.
The two people sat beside each other with remorse. Ellen didn’t expect that there would be a day she would regret her actions, or how she imposed her powers. But today, the old woman finally felt the bitter pain of dejection. But there was no more room for regret.
But Andrei remained his composure. His eyes were not as daze and before, and the naiveness and prideful look was gone.
Right now, he learned, that it was not time for him to drown himself in sorrows. He needed make his next plans.
The gaze in his eyes shifted as a different resolve took his being.
Anya is in her studio. It was another day of work. Her days were somewhat peaceful, and Andrei really did not bother her again. She remembered Damon’s words and can’t help but smile. The Boss was very efficient.
“Famous conglomerate the Davidss Group of Companies, in the brink of bankruptcy.”
The sound of the television passed by Anya’s ears. She paused on what she was doing as she watched in agape at the headlines and the scene projected on the screen.
The Davidss is going to be bankrupt? Is this what Damon had done as a warning.
Anya can’t help but phantom of how harsh Damon’s warning can be. She shivered slightly. Geez, one shouldn’t offend the boss, really.
Yet, Anya raised her eyes to look at the situation being broadcasted. It shows Ellen Davids being mobbed by the reporters. The old woman looked more old than her actual age. Her past well taken care of appearance were lost at the moment.
Anya watched the scene and can’t help remember the past. The once haughty and prideful in-law of hers. Her insults and attack she had inflicted to her and to even her own grandmother. The belittlement she showed her in every chance she gets.
And Andrei Davids, her ex-husband, who humiliated her and tormented her in the latter part of her life. The countless nightmares he left her, the pain and harassment she received, she watched these all flashed in her eyes, and the happenings in the screen slowly overlapping these.
Anya was not a person who would find delight in other’s sufferings, but looking at the situation now, there was strange feeling in her heart.
That finally, the people who gave her injustice was finally getting their retribution. That karma was real, and it is true that people will be forced to taste their own medicine.
The family where she suffered so much, was now falling apart in front of her. She was not a saint. And at this moment, she unguiltily thought that these people finally got what they deserve.
Her past knowledge of how the perpetrator will never be convicted while inflicting pain with others, and how it is only the victim he will be left with trauma, while the bully would still live a happy life, was now replaced with the scenes of this day.
Anya’s eyes glinted, as the thoughts can’t help but spill on her mind. ‘Now, it is your turn to be down.’
