Silas’ P.O.V

I watched in surprise as Anika loaded her suitcases into the trunk of her car by the time I got outside.

The celebration was still in full swing inside, but she seemed determined to leave. "Anika, where are you going?" I asked, my voice tinged with concern.

She turned to face me, her expression a mix of determination and vulnerability, as if she didn’t expect to see me here. "Silas," she began, "all my life, I've lived for others. First, it was for my pack, then it was for revenge, and lately, it's been for you, to help you achieve your dream."

“What is this about?” I stepped closer, my brows furrowing with understanding. "You've been an incredible friend and confidant, you know. I don't know where I'd be without you."

She smiled, but there was a sadness in her eyes. "Thank you, Silas. But now, I want to live for my own dreams and aspirations. I've realized that it's time for me to find my own path."

Anika and I stood in the quiet darkness of the night, the moonlight casting a soft glow on her determined face.

The words hung heavy in the air between us, and I could see the longing in her eyes.

She took a deep, shaky breath, her voice soft but resolute. "I want to travel the world, Silas. I want to see new places, experience different cultures, and take odd jobs to survive. I want to immerse myself in life's vibrant tapestry."

I nodded, my heart heavy with understanding. "I see the appeal it must have to a free-spirited wolf like you,” I said softly. “You deserve to explore the world and live life to the fullest."

She managed another sad smile. "Thank you, Silas. I hope you can understand why I need to do this. For myself, at last."

I reached out and gently took her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "I do understand, Anika. It's your life, and you should follow your heart."

Anika's gaze held mine for a moment, and I could see the emotions swirling in her eyes. "You know what this means, right? By leaving, I'm breaking our mating bond."

The words stung, and an unexpected pang of hurt shot through me. But I forced a smile. "I know. Of course I do. Our paths are diverging now, and I have responsibilities here with the pack. But we'll always be friends, no matter where life takes us."

Anika and I embraced one last time, the warmth of her body pressed against mine, a bittersweet feeling settling in the pit of my stomach.

As our lips met in a passionate kiss, it was as if we were trying to convey all the emotions we couldn't put into words. But somehow…this felt like a goodbye.

Breaking the kiss, I held her close, my forehead resting against hers. "You know, you should at least tell Zoya that you won't be able to attend her wedding," I whispered.

Anika sighed, her fingers gently tracing the contours of my face. "I thought about it, Silas, but if I tell her, she'll try to stop me. And I really need to do this, for myself."

I understood her reasoning, even if it tugged at my heartstrings.

Anika was a free spirit, and it was time for her to spread her wings and explore the world. I gave her one final, lingering kiss before stepping back.

"Take care, Anika," I said, my voice filled with genuine warmth. "Wherever your adventures take you, know that you'll always have a friend and ally in me."

Anika smiled through her lingering tears, her hand on the car door. "You too, Silas. Lead our pack — your pack now — well."

“Silly. It will always be ours.”

With that, she moved to the door of the driver’s seat of her car, and I watched her walk away from me.

But then, she halted, and she was once again in front of me.

Her eyes, glistening with unshed tears, met mine, and she spoke in a voice filled with vulnerability.

"Silas," she began, "I know we're saying goodbye now, and I don't know what the future holds for either of us. But I want to ask you for one last favor. I don't know when or how things will change, but if we both find ourselves back here, still unable to love anyone else the way Ezra loves Zoya, can we… can we give it another shot as mates?"

Her request hung in the air, a fragile hope wrapped in the uncertainty of our separate journeys. I couldn't help but smile at the sincerity in her eyes and the vulnerability of her words.

"I can't predict the future either,” I said, “but I promise you this: if the time ever comes when we're both ready and willing, I'll be here. Until then, go and live your life to the fullest. And who knows, maybe fate has something unexpected in store for us."

With a final, lingering look, Anika nodded, and she finally closed the door and drove away.

As I watched the last of her car’s headlights disappear into the night, I couldn't help but feel that our paths were far from finished crossing.

The End…
