The Lies That Binds

The Breaking Point

Ch. 126 / 200 Jun 22, 2025

Piper’s pulse hammered in her ears as she stood frozen in the grocery aisle, her eyes locked on Victor. He stared back at her with a chilling intensity, his face gaunt but filled with a deadly resolve. This was the moment they had been dreading — the moment he would strike. Her fingers trembled on her phone as she sent the text to Gabriel, her heart pounding in her chest.

Lily tugged at her shirt, oblivious to the tension rising in the air. “Mommy, can we get these cookies?”

Piper forced a smile, her throat tight. “Sure, sweetheart. Go ahead.”

Every instinct told her to grab Lily and run, but she knew she couldn’t. Not yet. They needed to stick to the plan, as dangerous as it was. Gabriel, Jasper, and Noah were nearby, waiting for Victor to make his move, but that didn’t stop the fear gnawing at her insides.

Victor started toward her, his movements slow and deliberate, like a predator stalking its prey. Piper’s breath hitched, and she instinctively pulled Lily closer, her mind racing. She didn’t know what Victor’s endgame was, but the hatred in his eyes made it clear — this wasn’t just about revenge. This was personal.

As he approached, Piper’s phone buzzed in her hand. Gabriel’s response flashed on the screen:

Gabriel: Stay calm. We’re moving in.

Stay calm. Piper swallowed hard, trying to keep her nerves in check as Victor stopped just a few feet away. His lips curled into a cold, predatory smile.

“Well, well,” Victor drawled, his voice low and menacing. “You must be Piper.”

Piper’s mouth went dry, but she forced herself to speak. “What do you want?”

Victor’s eyes flickered with dark amusement. “What do I want? It’s simple, really. I want to make Gabriel suffer.”

Her stomach twisted at the mention of Gabriel’s name, and she fought to keep her face neutral. Victor’s focus was razor-sharp, and she knew any sign of weakness would only embolden him.

“This isn’t about you, Piper,” Victor continued, his tone almost casual. “You’re just a pawn in the game. Gabriel ruined my life, and now I’m going to ruin his.”

Piper’s pulse raced, her mind spinning as she tried to make sense of Victor’s words. Gabriel had told her bits and pieces about his past, about the criminal network he had once been entangled with, but she had never truly understood the depth of the danger. Now, with Victor standing before her, the weight of it all crashed down like a tidal wave.

Victor’s eyes narrowed, and his gaze shifted to Lily. Piper’s heart leapt into her throat, her protective instincts flaring to life. She stepped in front of her daughter, her body tense.

“Don’t you dare,” Piper said, her voice hardening.

Victor chuckled darkly. “Don’t worry, Piper. I’m not here to hurt the kid. But Gabriel? He’s going to lose everything.”

Piper’s phone buzzed again, and she glanced down to see another message:

Gabriel: Almost there. Just a little longer.

Piper swallowed hard, her gaze flicking back to Victor. She needed to keep him talking, needed to buy them just a few more minutes until Gabriel and the others could intervene.

“Why blame Gabriel for your life falling apart?” Piper asked, her voice shaking slightly. “You made your choices.”

Victor’s eyes darkened, the amusement vanishing from his face. “Gabriel betrayed me,” he hissed, stepping closer. “He was one of us — he was supposed to help us take everything. But instead, he turned on us, destroyed the network, and left me with nothing.”

Piper’s heart raced as she listened to the venom in Victor’s voice. Gabriel had tried to leave his past behind, but it had clearly followed him, leaving scars that Piper hadn’t fully understood until now.

“And now?” Victor’s voice dropped to a menacing whisper. “I’m going to take from him what matters most.”

Fear surged through Piper, and she instinctively tightened her grip on Lily’s hand. She didn’t know what Victor’s next move would be, but she knew she had to protect her daughter at all costs.

Just then, a figure appeared at the end of the aisle, moving with purpose. Gabriel.

Relief washed over Piper, but it was quickly replaced by the tension of what was about to happen. Gabriel’s eyes locked onto Victor, his expression dark and filled with a barely contained fury.

“Victor,” Gabriel called, his voice steady but laced with anger. “It’s over.”

Victor turned slowly, a cruel smile spreading across his face. “Gabriel. I was wondering when you’d show up.”

Gabriel took a step forward, his gaze never leaving Victor. “You don’t have to do this. It’s over. Walk away.”

Victor laughed, the sound sharp and bitter. “Walk away? After everything you’ve taken from me? No, Gabriel. This is just the beginning.”

Piper’s heart pounded in her chest as she stood frozen between them, feeling like she was standing at the edge of a cliff. She knew that the situation was about to explode, and she wasn’t sure how it would end.

Behind Gabriel, she caught a glimpse of movement — Jasper, approaching cautiously from the other side of the store. His eyes were focused, his body tense as he positioned himself to back up Gabriel. Piper’s chest tightened. The two of them were working together for now, but the rivalry between them still simmered beneath the surface, a powder keg waiting to ignite.

Victor’s smile widened, his eyes gleaming with a malicious glint. “You’re going to watch everything you care about burn, Gabriel. Starting with her.”

Before Piper could react, Victor lunged, his movements quick and deliberate. Her heart leapt into her throat as he closed the distance between them, but in an instant, Gabriel was there, blocking Victor’s path and shoving him back with a force that sent him stumbling.

“Not today,” Gabriel growled, his voice low and dangerous.

The tension in the air snapped like a taut wire, and suddenly, chaos erupted. Victor recovered quickly, his fists swinging toward Gabriel with lethal precision. Gabriel dodged the blows, countering with sharp, calculated strikes, his body moving with a deadly grace that Piper had never seen before.

The clash between them was fierce, raw with years of hatred and betrayal, and Piper could feel the weight of it pressing down on her like a physical force. She clutched Lily to her chest, backing away as the fight intensified.

Jasper moved in from the side, his expression hard as he circled around to block Victor’s escape route. Noah appeared from the shadows, his eyes cold and focused as he approached from behind.

It was three against one, but Victor fought like a man possessed, his movements wild and unpredictable. Piper’s heart pounded in her chest as she watched the scene unfold, her mind racing with fear and adrenaline.

Just as it seemed like they had Victor cornered, he lashed out with a vicious kick, catching Gabriel off guard and sending him sprawling to the ground. Panic surged through Piper as Victor turned toward her, his eyes locked onto her like a predator.

Time seemed to slow as Victor closed the distance between them, his hand reaching for her. Piper’s body froze, her instincts screaming at her to protect Lily, but before she could react, a figure slammed into Victor from the side — Jasper.

The impact sent Victor crashing into the shelves, a wave of groceries cascading down around them. Jasper didn’t hesitate. He pinned Victor to the ground, his face a mask of rage as he held him down.

“You’re done,” Jasper spat, his voice low and fierce.

Victor struggled beneath him, his eyes wild with anger, but Jasper didn’t let up. Gabriel scrambled to his feet, his expression a mixture of relief and frustration as he joined Jasper, helping to restrain Victor.

The fight was over.

Piper let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding, her legs trembling as the adrenaline began to fade. Lily clung to her, wide-eyed and confused, but safe.

Gabriel’s eyes found hers, and for a moment, the world seemed to fade away. There was relief in his gaze, but also something deeper — something that made Piper’s heart ache. She wasn’t sure what she was feeling anymore.

Fear, gratitude, love? It all blurred together in the chaos of the moment.

Jasper’s voice broke the silence, pulling her back to reality. “We need to get him out of here. The police will be on their way.”

Gabriel nodded, his expression hardening as he turned back to Victor, who was still pinned beneath them. “This ends now.”

As the tension in the air began to dissipate, Piper felt the weight of everything settle on her shoulders. The danger had passed, but the emotional storm inside her was far from over. Gabriel had risked everything to protect her, but so had Jasper and Noah. Each of them had a claim to her heart, and each of them had been a part of her life in ways she couldn’t untangle.

But now, in the quiet aftermath, she had to face the truth: she couldn’t keep living in this emotional limbo. The time for choices was coming, and soon she would have to confront her feelings for all of them.
