The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 798

Ch. 788 / 790 May 05, 2026

That evening, the packhouse was eerily quiet. The usual lively energy had been replaced by a heavy tension that lingered in every corner. Lyra sat alone in her chambers, her hands trembling as she stared at a small pendant that once belonged to her mother. The silver charm caught the flicker of candlelight, its delicate engraving a painful reminder of the weight of leadership.

Her mind was a whirlwind of thoughts. Memories of Kleon as a child flashed before her eyes—his laughter, his curious questions, the way he had clung to her hand when he was nervous. How had it all gone so wrong? She had tried to shield him, to guide him, but now he was gone, banished by her own decree.

The soft knock on the door startled her from her thoughts. “Come in,” she called, her voice steadier than she felt.

The door creaked open, and the pack’s beta, a grizzled wolf named Thalos, stepped inside. His face, weathered by years of battle, carried a mixture of concern and respect. “Luna Lyra,” he said, his tone low and cautious. “I thought you might want to talk.”

Lyra gestured to the chair opposite her. “Do you think I made a mistake, Thalos?” she asked, her voice heavy with uncertainty.

Thalos considered her question carefully before responding. “You did what you had to do, Luna. The pack needed a decision. They needed to see strength.”

“But he’s my son,” Lyra said, her voice breaking. “I sent him away when he was already broken. How can I call myself a mother?”

“You are not just a mother,” Thalos reminded her gently. “You are the Alpha and Luna of this pack. And sometimes, the choices we make as leaders are the hardest ones of all.”

Lyra’s eyes filled with tears, but she refused to let them fall. “I keep wondering if I pushed him too hard. If I failed him.”

Thalos leaned forward, his gaze steady. “Kleon is stronger than you think. He just hasn’t realized it yet. Sometimes, the only way to grow is to be tested. Out there, in the world, he’ll find the strength he couldn’t see in himself.”

Lyra nodded, though the ache in her chest remained. “I hope you’re right,” she whispered. “For his sake, and for mine.”
