Jamal Kunis POV
It was evening time when they were done with all their fun. They had just left a dance club and were heading towards the direction that led to the bus stop. What a day it was for them. I watch them and follow just as I have been doing all day. Surely these two were close. There was certainly no other explanation as to why they would spend the whole day with each other. I just sat in the car watching. Eventually I had to meet her. Autumn had said it before. I knew it from the start.
The both of them must have noticed me because they paused at the side of the road. The expression on their face said it all. They were talking in hushed voices. Though I was far away and could not hear a single word even if they were to speak aloud, I could just tell that they were making up a plan. Soon, they hugged and walked in different directions. I knew the trick. They wanted me to go after one of them. I knew very well that Methis did not live here. Of course, I had followed to her all the way to her home yesterday.
I did not like to fall for traps. I was not going to go after any of them. Rather I’d wait here and eventually, they both would come back and if they notice my persistence, it would make them the more confused. They’ll eventually give up, thinking they had mistaken me for a stalker and they’ll just go home. Then I would go after Methis and win her back.
I drove the car to a stop.
“What are you doing?” Autumn asked me.
“Going to talk to her,” I reply. “It is about time.” The more I delay here the more time I gave Methis to bond with that boy. I was not going to allow that.
I climb down from the car and move effortlessly into an alley to avoid the boy who I just seen. As I watched him walk by, an idea poked the side of my brain. What if I attacked the boy here and now? What if I just knocked him unconscious so bad that when he woke the next day, he’d have forgotten all about yesterday including his date outing with Methis, then I’d swoop down on Methis and take her home whether she wanted it or not. I took a peek at the boy and pondered upon the idea. All I had to do was reveal myself and fight this boy. It would not take 30 seconds to bring down a human not to talk of the fact that the boy was slender so he was probably weaker than the average human male my guess was 15 seconds at most and this boy is flat on his back, seeing stars.
But my best side got the better of me. Why should I take such extreme measures? What then would Methis think? If she were to come and see her friend unconscious or bloodied on the pavement what thoughts would run through her head when I popped up and claimed responsibility for such ghastly act. It is always said that you can take a horse to the stream but can’t force it to drink. And this was generally true with human beings too. You could take Methis by force but forcing her to love me after what I had done to her friend would be impossible so for that reason, I let the boy trot off.
I patiently wait in the alley until I hear footsteps approaching again. Taking a quick peek, I notice Methis walking as quickly as her legs can carry her back in the direction that she had came. This was my chance to speak with her. I let her pass before I revealed myself.
“Methis,” I called her name and she turned around. The reaction was as I expected it but a little more. Her mouth hung open as her face turned pale with fear. Why did she fear me? I wondered. I took a cautious step forward. Methis took two frightened step backward almost stumbling to the ground. “Methis it is me Jamal.” Had she somehow forgotten?
“Stay back, Jamal.” Her voice broke as she spoke. This was what fear looked like. She was giving me a recreation of how she had reacted the first time I attempted to take her flower. The image still remained plain unfiltered in my brain. I had undressed her and laid her down but she had refused asking for an alternative method to make her pregnant. I refused but let her go that night. Even in my most wicked state, it looked like rape to me and I was not going to go through with that.
Now as she stood before me with the same expression, I could not help but feel sorry for her. I felt pained. The first time she gave that expression I had not loved her but I let her go. Now I loved her and had discovered that she was my mate, what was I supposed to do? I could not force her. My best bet was to just talk to her as gently as I could.
“Methis, calm down.” I placed an outstretched arm as if I was calming a dog and I crouched a little to stop myself from looking like a threat. This was not the perception I wanted to give Methis. Definitely not a one of threat. I studied her face and body gestures well. She had not spoken since. Not even a single word. “Methis talk to me.” I thought that maybe if I used her name often, it would open up something that would lead me to where I want to go with this encounter.
She finally spoke, howbeit, not pleasant words. “You should not be here, Jamal.” Her voice still was not smooth.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I don’t know but you are not supposed to be here?”
“Where am I supposed to be?”
“Somewhere else. The wolf realm with your people.”
“I came back for you.”
“No, no, no.” she was panicking now. “Don’t. Your people need you.”
“And I need you!” I almost raised my voice.
My words silenced Methis and all she could do was stare in awe at what I had said. She seemed to be contemplating my words. This was my chance to talk more sense into her.
“Methis.” I took a step closer and luckily for me, she just took a step back as opposed to the two she took earlier. I believe that is progress. “I had a go at the Dark Witch earlier and her staff was broken. I found out that she had a hold on me from sensing my mate. I had an encounter with the moon goddess and she finally revealed my mate to me.”
Methis bowed her head. “No.”
“Yes.”
“Please tell me it wasn’t me.”
“What do you mean? It was you. And I am back to take you with me so we can begin our own life.”
“Jamal, you don’t understand. I have a dream I am chasing here. I have a life here. I was just your surrogate for the time being and that is all behind me now.”
The pain that shot through me at the sound of this was unexplainable. She had rejected me? it was impossible. I stared down into her eyes and I could tell that Methis was conflicted. She was battling her different emotions. She did not know what she wanted. She was confused.
“Methis!” I heard the voice of the boy. He was coming this way.
I and Methis locked eyes. “It’s him, isn’t it? He is the new one.” I said.
“Please don’t hurt him.” Tears filled Methis eyes.
I don’t respond rather I just disappear into an alley.
A few seconds later, the boy came running down the road. He meets Methis and pulls her into an embrace. She spills the content of her eyes as grips him tightly.
“Who was it?” the boy asked but Methis is unable to talk.
The scene wretched my guts and I promised myself deep down that I was going to have Methis to myself as soon as I can.
After they both leave, I stroll to my car and take the wheels. Both Summer and Autumn are asleep and it is very quiet now. No cars in the street and no people walking about making noise. It is just me and my thoughts. I start the engine and zoom off with little attention on the road and all my attention glued to the thoughts that are running through my head. Just how close has she grown to that boy? Were they close enough for her to tell him about her surrogacy year? Certainly not. If so, letting the cat out of the bag would be the poison to their meal that I’ve always been searching for. Maybe. Maybe not.
