Jamal Kunis POV

With that in mind, I followed her the first day. She had arrived at school very early and from there she had met up with a group of friends. They were not three girls and two guys but after sometime, they all parted ways safe for her and one of the boys. That alone had my hairs stand on edge. What was happening? Who was the boy? Maybe I should come out now? I asked myself. But I decided to follow to see more.

Unlike what Conrad had predicted, Methis did find another person. After an entire day of stalking, I became worried. Methis and the boy spent too much time together though I could understand some of it given the fact that while at the stadium they both had a media work bib on, the way they laughed and talked and the way the ‘playfully’ shoved each other was too much for me to watch with my own eyes.

The boy was a bit handsome. With dark skin and a silky looking black hair, it was not hard to imagine how anyone would not fall for him. But that was my mate he was flirting with. He had no right to do so. I had to be as protective as I could be if I wanted to stand a chance of getting Methis back.

Soon, a precautionary measure became an obsession and rather than just walking out of the car and speaking to Methis, I begun to follow her around, trying to see what an ordinary life she was living. I followed her up to the point of her house and she had not noticed at all. Humans were too careless about their safety, I thought.

However, on the second day, Autumn had become suspicious of why we had been following the same woman around and just as he had always been, he never shied away from the conversation.

While we were at the medieval-themed restaurant, Autumn climbed into the front seat from the back where he was sitting with his sister who was now asleep.

“Are we going to do this all day or do you actually have a plan?” Autumn whispered in my ear as we silently sat in our car outside a mediaeval-themed restaurant. “Who is she?” he asked.

“It’s a friend,” I replied.

“A friend? A friend you are scared of approaching?”

“I am not scared of approaching her,” I said. “I am just going to wait for the right time.”

“I don’t know if you have noticed but there is no right time. Just time.”

I looked down at Autumn. He was far too smart for his age but what was more perplexing was what he said next.

“You know? I am not blind.”

“Who said you are?” I asked.

“I couldn’t help but notice that she looks quite a lot like Summer. Coincidence perhaps?”

My breath caught in my throat. He had noticed. I should have known that he would. However, I don’t say anything to him.

“Is she?” Autumn asked.

“Is she who?”

“Our mother.” Autumn twists his neck in circles. It must be difficult having to look up every time when talking. “I did some digging in the library and I found out that every Lycan was well documented on from their mates to their successors to every family member that mattered but somehow, I could not find anything on your mate. It made me wonder if you really were our father but given that fact that I had your resemblance and Summer was my twin, I knew there was more.”

I was dumbfounded at the boy’s brilliance. “Why didn’t you come to me and talk about it?”

“I didn’t want to get banished.”

I laughed. Even with all his wisdom he still was a kid. The talk of banishment was a reference to one of the stories told to young pups back in the pack. It was about a dodgy Lycan who banished anybody who asked too many questions until everyone refused to ask him question so he ruled without council until war came and because everyone was scared to ask him a question, no one confronted his decisions and he lost the war. It was a very odd story but a helpful one in teaching children not to be afraid of asking questions.

“I would not banish you. Never,” I assured him nonetheless.

“OK. But do you hate her?” he asked.

“Of course not.” I placed a hand on Autumn. “I love her. In fact, I’m here to take her back so she can come and live with us again. To build a happy family.”

“OK.”

“Wait! No way!” Summer had awoken a long time ago and it turned out that she had been eavesdropping on our conversation. “That’s our mum right there?” her excitement leaking through her voice. “Let’s go and meet her!”

She was about to open the door when I stopped her. “NO!” I and Autumn cautioned her.

“What?” she eyed Autumn. “Why are you behaving so bossy?”

“We can’t meet her now,” Autumn warned.

“Why?” Summer asked.

Autumn was lost for words so I stepped in. “We need her to be alone so we meet her and talk to her slowly. You don’t want to scare your mother away by just running towards her, do you?”

“No,” Summer answered.

“Good. So sit still,” I told her.

Eventually, she reclined in her seat and went silent, playing with her toy.

My eyes locked with Autumn and he whispered. “Eventually, you will have to meet her.”

“Eventually I will.”

But the jealousy inside me doesn’t let me.
