"What?" Louise exclaimed in the car.
They got into the car after leaving the party, and Emily explained what had happened to Louise.
"Wait, baby, do you feel that something is wrong?" Louise frowned. How could there be so many accidents at an ordinary banquet? She did not believe it at all.
"So many coincidences happened at the same time. This is not an accident. Someone must be behind it," Emily said as she drove.
"Jenny mentioned Rose. Rose was the one who gave Jenny the information." Louise continued.
"Austin dared to provoke Derek not because of the Carter family, but because he had someone else behind him," Emily said.
"Rose is the mother of Derek's children. No one can persuade Derek other than her." Louise realized.
"That's right, it must be her." Emily gripped the steering wheel tightly.
"Rose could come up with such a brilliant idea. To incite others to target you. This is vicious. This way, you'll be offending more and more people. In the end, no one will be able to protect you." Louise gasped for breath. Just thinking about it made her feel as if a huge shadow was pressing down on her.
"Moreover, the enemy of the enemy is a friend. They have me as their common enemy, and it is easy for them to become allies. Before I disappear, their alliance will be unbreakable." Emily took a deep breath and told the cruel truth.
"Oh my! I feel cold all over now. If it were me, I might be driven crazy. It's so horrible." Louise hugged her shoulders tightly. She wanted to dispel the chill.
Emily adjusted the temperature of the air-conditioning in the car.
Today's matter exposed her to more people.
There was indeed a reason why she attacked Austin. When Derek and Nick appeared, the Carter family was doomed. So, she didn't have to worry about Austin taking revenge.
But the main reason was that she could use Austin to warn those with ulterior motives and to let them know the consequences of provoking her. This way, some of them would not dare to make a move, thus, deterring others.
'It was always good to have less trouble,' Emily thought in a daze.
Suddenly, Emily braked.
"What is it?" asked Louise.
"Someone is blocking us," Emily said as she looked ahead.
Following Emily's line of sight, Louise saw three cars parked in front of them. More than a dozen men were standing there with their hands crossed as they looked at them.
"They won't let us go, will they?" Louise was enraged. She quickly opened the door and got out of the car. Then, she raised her middle finger at the men opposite her.
Emily unfastened her seatbelt and got out of the car to stand with Louise.
"Why did you get out? I can handle these people myself. Don't do this job for me." Louise was in a bad mood, and she wanted to vent her anger on these people.
"I know you are good, but I haven't fought for a long time. Although I'm not as strong as you, I can fight with two or three people at the same time." Emily was still worried about Louise. Moreover, these people were coming for her. Louise had been angered by the people who came to cause trouble one after another. She couldn't miss it when these people were willing to be punching bags.
The two looked at each other, and then Louise suddenly ran forward. The thugs opposite her also rushed toward them.
Louise blocked some of the people in front while the rest rushed toward Emily.
At this moment, several cars were parked in the shadows behind them.
Derek, Aaron, and Ian were in the car. When Aaron saw Emily, he wanted to open the door and get out.
"You are not allowed to get out, Aaron," ordered Derek.
Aaron saw the thugs rushing toward Emily. His face was pale, but he still wanted to open the car door to go to Emily.
After Aaron was stopped by Derek, he turned to look at him angrily.
Derek supported his forehead with one hand, and then, he glanced at Jackson.
Jackson was the best bodyguard. He worked for Derek for many years and was one of the people he trusted the most.
"Okay." Jackson nodded and left.
As soon as Jackson got out of the car, he rushed into the crowd.
Emily felt a gust of wind. Then, she found the situation easier to handle. Fewer people were attacking her. They were all beaten to the ground by another guy.
Then, the person rushed to Louise and fought with her.
In the blink of an eye, those men were lying on the ground, moaning in pain.
After the fight, Louise's face flushed with excitement. The discomfort she felt after learning about the conspiracy was gone.
Jackson stood up straight and bowed to Emily and Louise.
"Jackson, why are you here?" Emily asked in surprise.
"You know him?" Louise looked back and forth between Emily and Jackson.
"He is Derek's man," Emily explained to Louise.
Jackson nodded. "Derek asked me to help you. Aaron is worried about you."
Hearing Aaron's concern for her, Emily smiled genuinely.
"Please thank Derek for me," Emily said to Jackson.
"Okay, I will pass your message to him," Jackson said and left.
Louise said regretfully, "Jackson is really good at fighting. I want to fight him."
"Don't think about it. We should go home," Emily said to Louise, who was in a daze.
The two returned to the car.
"It should be over, right? There won't be any more people coming after us, right? I'll be exhausted if they keep coming." Louise began to feel tired after sitting in the car. She couldn't help but complain.
"Rose and the others ran into Derek twice when they attacked. They probably won't want a third time. Moreover, it has made a big noise. It will not end well if the matter gets bigger. The families have their information channels. If they make things bigger and the other families know about it, it will be shameful." Emily drove by the police car opposite her.
"What you said makes sense. I had to deal with a group of hypocritical women, and then a group of thugs. I'll sleep for a while. Wake me up when we arrive." Louise yawned.
"Go ahead. I'll send you home. I'll tell you when we get there." Emily looked at Louise with heartache.
"No, I want to sleep at your place today..." Louise fell asleep before she could finish her sentence.
Emily couldn't help but laugh. She knew that Louise was worried about her, Chris, and Diane. Louise's concern made her feel touched, and she adjusted the temperature so that Louise could sleep more comfortably.
When Emily got home and looked at the cozy house and the warm lights, Emily felt that all her fatigue was gone.
She woke Louise up. They were warmly welcomed by Chris and Diane as soon as they entered.
"Mommy, why are you back so late? I miss you so much." Diane's eyes were red.
"Mommy, you and Louise both drank." Chris sniffed.
Emily nodded in embarrassment at her son's serious gaze.
"You smell so bad. Louise, don't kiss me," Diane said in disgust.
Thus, Emily told Chris and Diane to go to bed. Emily and Louise had some honey water before taking showers.
It had been a long day. Emily, who was lying in bed, looked at the moon outside the window and whispered to Louise, "Good night."
