When Derek arrived at Emily's house, he found something strange as soon as he entered the house.
Ian's and Diane's eyes were red, but they seemed to be very close. They were even closer than before. Derek looked at Emily in confusion.
Emily shrugged and didn't tell Derek directly. Derek decided to ask Ian when he had time.
When Aaron saw Derek, Aaron knew that his daddy had come to pick him and Ian up. Aaron held Emily's hand and didn't want to go.
"Aaron, Derek is here to pick you up. You've agreed with it, right? Derek came to take you back according to the agreement. You should go back on time. You can come back next time." Emily could tell that Aaron didn't want to go, so she comforted him.
Aaron pressed his face against Emily's and nodded reluctantly.
To Derek's surprise, Ian was also reluctant to part with Emily. Ian held Diane with one hand and Teresa with the other.
"Teresa, the food you and Emily made was so delicious. I will miss you." It wasn't that Ian didn't want to hold Emily's hand. Aaron and Chris took Emily's hands. Furthermore, Chris was staring at Ian fiercely. Ian didn't dare to hold Emily's hand.
Teresa turned to take out a food box. "Since you like it, I've made some food for you. Just heat it before you eat it."
Ian happily took the box and hugged it tightly in his arms. He really wanted to stay here.
In the afternoon, to make it up to Ian, Diane and Chris took turns pushing Ian on the swing. They had Emily and also nice food here. Although Ian had only spent one night here, he felt he had stayed for a long time.
Ian looked at Aaron. Was this why Aaron was so attached to Emily? This felt quite good.
Derek didn't know whether to laugh or cry. It had only been one night, and even Ian became like this. Derek was now like a bad guy who wanted to break up their family.
At that moment, Derek sensed a hostile gaze on him. He turned his head and was surprised to find that this gaze was from Chris.
When Chris saw that Derek had noticed him, Chris did not retract his gaze. Instead, he raised his chin and eyebrows provocatively.
Derek did not know the reason for Chris' sudden hostility, but the children's thoughts were always changing. Derek did not think too much about it.
"Emily, thank you for taking care of these two little fellows." Derek extended his hand and wanted to shake hands with Emily.
Just as Emily was about to reach out, Chris suddenly rushed up and wanted to shake hands with Derek.
Chris was not tall enough, so he stood on tiptoe. His little face was tense, and his expression was very serious.
Emily was amazed. Derek said, "Children have their own problems. Adults will solve their matters by themselves."
In the end, Chris failed to stop Emily from shaking hands with Derek. However, Emily just shook Derek's hand quickly.
After Derek left with Aaron and Ian, Emily asked why Chris had acted like that. He pursed his lips and lowered his head without saying anything.
Emily sighed. She didn't want to push Chris. She patted his head and said softly, "It doesn't matter if you have a secret, but Chris, you were very impolite just now. Do you understand?"
Chris nodded lightly.
At the same time, Derek looked at the dejected Aaron and Ian. "Charlie has prepared your favorite food. Let's have dinner early tonight. Emma will call later. She misses you very much."
As he heard the news about his grandmother, Ian's attention was diverted. He was happy. "I haven't seen Emma for a long time. Daddy, when will she come back?"
Aaron also looked at Derek. Emma was very nice to him, and he liked Emma very much.
Derek was delighted that their spirits had recovered.
At eight o'clock in the evening, after Derek put the two children to sleep, he told Charlie that he had something to do and had to go out. Derek asked Charlie to take care of Aaron and Ian. Then Derek hurried upstairs to change his clothes.
He looked at himself in the mirror. He fixed his hair, picked clothes and shoes, and put on perfume. He felt that he had never been so agitated and nervous.
Seeing that there was not much time left, he quickly went downstairs. The driver was already waiting at the door.
When Derek arrived at the restaurant, there were still five minutes before nine. He calmly tidied himself up. At that moment, he was extraordinarily exquisite, and his attire was even more meticulous than at his engagement banquet.
The decoration of this restaurant was luxurious and elegant. Normally, it was difficult to make a reservation here. Derek booked it for the entire night. As long as he thought that he and Emily could be alone for an entire night, he would reveal a charming smile.
"Mr. Scott, everything is ready. Please follow me." The manager of the restaurant led the way for Derek.
Derek was led to his seat. He felt that time was passing so slowly, and he looked at his watch from time to time.
At this time, Emily was putting the two children to sleep at home. She sat by the bed and told them a story. Chris and Diane blinked as they listened to her soft voice. They gradually fell asleep.
Emily made a mark on the fairy tale book. She turned off the light and left the room quietly.
She returned to her room and turned on the computer. It was filled with information about the Hopkinson Group.
Derek watched as time passed by. He tried to comfort himself. Perhaps Emily was not done with her work, or perhaps she was still dressing up herself.
When the violinist began to perform, the restaurant echoed with beautiful music.
The flowers that Derek had carefully prepared, the menu, and all the surprises seemed to be mocking him.
The food was already cold. When the restaurant manager asked if they should heat them, Derek refused and picked up his fork and knife, and ate the cold food.
Why? He thought that if she didn't want to come, she could refuse him directly. Why did she let him wait in the restaurant like a fool?
He even booked the whole restaurant. How ridiculous!
He could not enjoy the expensive food or the precious red wine.
Derek had a gloomy expression. He did not say anything, but everyone knew he was mad.
At three o'clock in the morning, Derek returned to the Scott's. Charlie rushed over after he got the news. He looked at Derek, who was reeking of alcohol. Charlie had never seen Derek lose his composure like this. Even five years ago, when Derek suddenly had two children, he was much calmer than now.
"Derek, are you okay?" Charlie was very worried. He did not know what had happened.
"I'm fine. I just need to sleep. Don't call me tomorrow morning. By the way, tell the person who replaced Eric to postpone the schedule for tomorrow morning," Derek said expressionlessly before going upstairs.
Back in the room, he took a shower and then went to bed as usual. If he hadn't gritted his teeth and shouted "Emily" in his sleep, perhaps everything would have been the same.
