As soon as Emily was done tidying up the sofa that Jayden had slept on, she received a call from Louise.
She looked at the vibrating phone and thought of the question that Jayden had asked her yesterday. Who was her best friend? It was really difficult to answer. If Jayden left a bit later, she would meet him. She didn't know what else he would ask.
Emily was stunned by her thoughts and quickly picked up the call.
"Emily, what takes you so long to answer?" Louise asked curiously, and before Emily could say a word, she came straight to the point. "I haven't ridden a horse for a long time. I'm going to the racecourse today."
"I haven't ridden a horse for a long time, either. I think I'm getting rusty." Emily was hesitant. She wanted to stay at home with Chris and Diane.
At that moment, Chris went downstairs, holding Diane's hand.
"Good morning, Mommy." Diane yawned while getting downstairs. "Is it Louise? I want to talk to her."
Chris pushed the chair aside and sat down, his legs hanging down. He was in a good mood today because Teresa told him yesterday that there would be French toast, butter, and cheese for breakfast today. It must be delicious, so Chris was looking forward to it.
Emily put the phone next to Diane's ear. Diane was standing on tiptoe and looking up at Emily.
"Louise, when are you coming here? I miss you so much." Diane's childish voice reached Louise's ears, and it was irresistible to everyone.
"I asked your mommy to ride a horse today. Ask her to bring you here." Louise tried to tempt Emily.
"Mommy, Mommy, I want to go. I like horses." Diane held Emily's thigh and swayed back and forth. She liked animals very much, and she had never touched a horse before. She decided to go see horses with Emily today no matter what.
Chris gave up on the French toast temporarily after hearing Emily's words. He jumped off the chair and grabbed Emily's other hand. "Mommy, I want to go too."
"Emily, bring them over. It's gonna be fine, and nothing will happen to them," Louise begged.
Emily had no choice but to agree.
"We'll set off in half an hour. Now, finish your breakfast first." Emily smiled.
"That's great! Mommy, I love you the most." Chris and Diane cheered.
It was cloudy today and wasn't very sunny. After Louise met up with Emily and the others, they arrived at the racecourse in the suburbs.
"This is the new racecourse that was opened a few years ago. It is large and has many horses. I like to come here when I'm free. We can get two docile horses for the two little guys." Louise was familiar with the racecourse. She thought of a plan when she knew that Chris and Diane would come.
"It is so big. I can't even see the end of it." Diane looked around in shock. She felt that it was good to be an adult, who could go to many places for fun.
"It smells bad." Chris wrinkled his nose.
"It is the smell of horse dung," Emily told him.
Soon, they followed the staff to the stables to choose horses. Chris, who complained about horse dung, was now as excited as Diane. They got close to the door of the stable and looked at the tall and elegant animals inside and both awed.
Emily smiled and looked at these charming animals when she saw Chris' rare surprise.
In the past, it was Bennett who carried Emily when she first rode a horse. Later on, Bennett got her a pony and helped her sit on it. All of this seemed to have happened yesterday.
Seeing the nostalgic look in Emily's eyes, Louise knew that Emily was thinking of the past. She nudged Emily and said, "Emily, have you chosen one?"
"It's so beautiful!" Emily was about to speak when she heard the children's cry.
She turned around and saw a snow-white horse, which was as beautiful as a unicorn, elegant, and noble. It looked pure and didn't seem to belong to the racecourse.
"A customer keeps the horse here. The others can't ride it," the staff said apologetically.
Emily was not surprised. In the end, she chose a pony. She didn't want to ride a horse today, so she chose a suitable one for her children to ride on.
Diane circled her pony, admiring it.
Chris covered Diane's mouth. "Enough talking."
Louise chose a docile date red mare. She mounted it and ran past Emily, causing Diane to be envious.
"Mommy, ride a horse." Diane pulled Emily's hand.
"No rush. We have to learn about the horses' tempers and get their consent first." Emily told Diane patiently that although the horses here had been tamed, she still had to be careful.
Emily guided Diane to rub the pony's neck. The pony felt a little itchy and moved. Diane retracted her hand in fright and then laughed.
"Chris, give it a try," Emily said to Chris.
Chris was serious and seemed a little nervous, but he didn't want anyone to see through him.
Emily asked him to touch the pony. He was no longer nervous when he saw the pony's beautiful eyes.
"It looks so pretty," Chris said to Emily.
"Horses are charming animals," Emily told Chris and Diane about the stories of horses.
"Mommy, let's take it home. I like it very much." After playing with the pony for a while, Diane suggested.
"No, we can't raise it now. The pony will be happier here." Emily rejected Diane's request.
"It won't be, Mommy. The pony likes me very much. Look, it's licking my hand. I want it." Diane was anxious.
At that moment, there was a commotion in the distance. Emily placed her hand on her forehead and saw people in a competition.
A rumbling sound came over, and the pony raised his hooves uneasily.
A bee flew over and landed on the pony's butt.
Suddenly, the pony neighed and ran out in fright.
"Diane!" Emily was the first to realize that something was wrong. She wanted to pull the reins, but the pony ran too fast and she failed.
"What's wrong?" Louise rode for a while and came back. She happened to miss the pony.
"Give me the reins. Diane is on the pony." Emily snatched the reins from Louise and mounted her horse swiftly. Her riding skills were quite good.
"Watch Chris." After that, Emily rode far away on her date red horse.
Someone among the people who were competing also discovered the out-of-control pony and chased after it on a horse. Most of the people didn't notice the pony.
Emily was glad that she had chosen a pony. It didn't run fast, and she caught up to it soon.
She found that another horse had followed her. The rider was Nick.
Nick was surprised to see Emily, but he knew what was more important now. "Emily, ride on its right, and I'll be on his left. Let's force it to stop."
Emily nodded in agreement.
The pony was surrounded by two horses. Nick held the reins of the pony and stopped it.
Emily immediately got off the horse and hugged the trembling Diane. Diane had been frightened and had yet to regain her senses.
Only then did people notice the situation here. They came over one after another, and Derek and Terry were among them.
"Who is she? Why did Nick risk his life to help her?"
"Nick is involved with too many ladies. Who remembers her? She is quite special. She even has a child."
"That's right. They look like a family of three when they stand together."
Derek's face darkened when he heard the conversation.
"I'll go back," Derek left immediately after speaking to Terry. He was riding the white horse that was as beautiful as a unicorn.
No one noticed that someone was staring hatefully at Emily, who was speaking to Nick.
