Once Upon a Night With My Stepdad

039

Ch. 39 / 85 Dec 06, 2025

It has been three weeks already and Scarlett's semester break was over. She was going to go back to the hassle and tussle of school which she wasn't looking forward to. She was all set to leave for school and was packing her things into her car that morning.

One of the maids, Sheila, was helping her take her belongings to the car and also get some necessary things that she had missed packing.

“Oh, that's right, Sheila?”

“Yes ma'am?”

“Can you go to my room and get the bag beside my bed? The one I brought from the mall.”

“Sure ma'am,” Sheila answered and went to get what Scarlett demanded. Scarlett, on the other hand, went back into the house to get some snacks for the road.

Sheila came back outside but didn't find Scarlett, she loaded the bag in the trunk while waiting. She heard the gate opening and turned to see their porter opening the gate for a car for someone. They were not expecting any visitors so she called for Scarlett.

Before Scarlett came out, Adrian stepped down from the car, looking dashing in his blue suit and sunglasses. He adjusted his suit and looked around the compound like he hadn't been there before.

Scarlett finally came out of the house with some snacks in her hands. She saw Adrian but went to place the snacks inside the car, ignoring his presence.

“Hi, Scarlett.” Adrian took his sunglasses off.

“Hi.” She returned.

“Your mother wanted me to drop you at school, that's why I'm here.” He didn't hesitate before stating his mission and he looked like he wasn't happy to be there.

“I can drive myself.” Scarlett snapped.

“I'm sorry but I can't allow that. Your mother let me know that you and your friends were drinking all night and it's probable that you have a hangover. That is why she called me to drive you.” Adrian sounded stern.

Scarlett wondered why her mother was suddenly being so caring. She shrugged, deciding to let Adrian drive her. She finished packing her things and then got into the backseat while Adrian got in the driver's seat. They drove off and left for her school.

Throughout the drive, they didn't say anything to each other. Although Scarlett would occasionally giggle at her phone but that was the only sound in the car. Adrian would take short glances at her through the rearview mirror but would look away as soon as she lifted her eyes.

They soon arrived at her penthouse after several hours of driving. Adrian got out of the car and went to the trunk, bringing her luggage down and then carrying it inside.

Scarlett followed him inside, to the elevator. He carried all the bags by himself and they didn't even say a word to each other all the way up. They soon got to the living room where Adrian dropped the luggage and then made to leave.

“So why don't you want to get married to my mom anymore?” Scarlett suddenly asked and Adrian turned around to look at her.

“Is anything the matter?”

“No. There's no problem.” He simply answered and then recalled something important.

“Before I leave, you should be careful with Ethan, I wouldn't want you to get hurt.”

“I think I know how to look out for myself. I'm an adult, not a baby.” She answered. He smiled, put his glasses back on, and then walked out.

Scarlett rolled her eyes and then carried her bags up to her room. She couldn't help but wonder why Adrian was pausing his plans of getting married to her mother, his answer earlier was unsatisfactory.

Meanwhile, Vivian was sitting in the coffee shop waiting for the detective who had given her information that rod2020 had been captured. Soon, the detective arrived and sat with her. They exchanged greetings and Vivian ordered coffee for them.

“So, how did you get hold of him?” She inquired.

“With the description you gave, I managed to track him down at a bar downtown and arrested him. He's in our custody right now and I think we should charge him to court.” The detective answered.

“Charge him to court? Why?” She asked.

“So that we can at least retrieve some of the money he took from you.”

“No, no. I don't want that. I don't have the energy for court cases at the moment. Instead of that, I want you to make him sign a document, swearing that he has deleted all the videos and that he would never blackmail me or come close to me again.” Vivian insisted and the detective shrugged.

“All right then, if that's what you want.” He took a sip of his coffee. “But you must be careful with the men you get involved with to avoid being caught up in this situation ever again. It may turn out worse than this if you keep having sex with random guys.”

Vivian frowned at his advice, having absolutely no interest in listening to him.

“Instead of sleeping around, why don't you settle down with one man?”

“Thanks for your advice detective but I wanted to ask you about something else.” She quickly changed the subject.

“Did you ever find out who sent you those documents saying that I fed my late husband stimulants?”

“Not yet but we're working on finding out who sent them.” Detective Roberts answered.

“Well, thank you for your time detective.” They shook hands and Vivian settled the bills before leaving the coffee shop. She got into her car and told the driver to take her somewhere else.

While she was in the car, she made a call across to Adrian but he didn't answer her call. She got frustrated and wondered what had come over him all of a sudden. Not only would he not answer her calls, he refused to meet up with her or even discuss their marriage plans. She didn't understand why he was being so distant just out of nowhere.

Just then, her phone rang and she rushed to grab it, thinking it was Adrian but Ethan was the one calling. She rolled her eyes and left the phone to ring without answering it. Ethan called her many more times but she didn't answer and was getting sick of the incessant calls.

She groaned out of frustration, wishing that he would just leave her alone.

“Why does he keep calling me? He's so fucking desperate and he doesn't even fuck that good!” She hissed.

Ethan called yet again and she finally answered it, tired of watching her phone ring.

“What? What do you want? Don't you have common sense to realize that I might be too busy to answer the phone?” She snapped, sounding very harsh.

“Listen, Ethan, don't call me anymore. If I ever need you, I will call you, do you understand? Don't go calling me every two minutes! I will not tolerate this next time.”
