Vivian was sitting in front of her mirror, applying her lotion, when her phone started to ring. She picked it up, and it turned out to be Detective Roberts. She groaned exhaustively, wondering what he wanted this time around.
She knew it was going to be the same old story; he had probably found some bullsh*t evidence and wanted her to come in and see it. She still went ahead and answered the call, having no choice.
“Hi, Vivian.”
“Detective Roberts, what do you want? Don't you think it's too early?” She snapped, already bored with the phone call.
“Well, we're not enemies, are we? Why are you talking like that?”
“Can you just tell me why you called me? Please!” She let out another aggressive groan.
"Fine, then, have it your way. Some new evidence came in, and I'd like you to come to the station this morning so that we can look at it.” He said, and she heavily rolled her eyes. She was expecting this; she saw it coming.
"Well, I'm not even in town as it stands; I'm afraid I won't be able to come to the station.” She answered, but the detective became upset, his calm voice turning violent and angry for the first time.
“I know you think this is a joke, Mrs. Davenport, but I assure you that I have enough evidence to get you convicted, and trust me when I say that I will turn them in if you don't come here this morning!” He threatened and didn't even let Vivian say anything before ending the call.
Vivian was surprised and terrified at the same time. Detective Roberts had never sounded like that, so sure and definite. What if he had actually found something? Was she in trouble?
Immediately, she called Richard, and thankfully, he answered the phone. She explained everything to him, and he was equally surprised.
“What do you think he found?” Richard asked.
“I have absolutely no idea! But I can't go there; I'm not even in town at the moment. Could you help me go and find out what he's talking about?” She requested, but Richard sighed.
“I wish I could help you, Vivian, but you see, I'm not in town at the moment; I'll be returning tomorrow, so I can't meet with the detective,” Richard explained. Vivian was disappointed and had no other choice but to go to the station.
She got ready and left; it took her hours to finally get to the station. Detective Roberts was waiting patiently for her, and when she arrived, he started to grin.
"Good, you're here; I've been waiting.” He got up and went to pull out a small box from his drawer. Vivian watched with keen interest, anxious to see what this evidence was that he was threatening to convict her with.
The detective pulled out a bunch of photos and presented them to her; her eyes widened at the sight of the obscene images in front of her. They were all photos of her and Rod 2020 having sex and even the recent photo of her walking into a hotel with a man.
Did Rod2020 turn these photos in? She couldn't help but wonder. But he has no idea about this case, so it definitely couldn't have been him. That could only mean that someone close to her is working with Rod 2020 to ruin her life.
Instead of showing how scared she was, Vivian put up a brave face and stared right at the detective.
“So? These don't prove anything.”
“You're simply shameless, Vivian. Isn't it obvious that you killed your husband? This is enough to prove that you actually killed him so that you can have the freedom to sleep with as many men as you want! This, along with the other pieces of evidence I have, I can finally get justice for that man.” Detective Roberts grinned victoriously. Vivian was confused and enraged.
“What the fuck!? What is all this!? How dare you make such claims?” She raged. “Why the hell are you trying to ruin my life and my upcoming wedding!?” Her eyes were now red with fury, and she stared the detective dead in the eyes.
“Just confess to your crimes, Vivian, or I'll be forced to release these photos to the public!” He told her, and she moved back in shock.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. Detective Roberts was so desperate to get the case solved that he would go to such lengths. He wants to blackmail her into admitting that she murdered her husband. It had turned selfish; the detective was no longer fighting for justice but to make a name for himself!
“You know what Detective Roberts is? You can go fuck yourself! You've lost your mind; you're absolutely crazy!” She got to her feet, swiping her purse from the table as she hurriedly made her way to the front door.
She stopped and turned to take a look at him. He looked really spiteful.
“If those pictures get out, I'm going to make sure I see you and trust me, you will stand no chance.”
With that, she left the station and got into the car, asking the driver to take her to the company.
She was so upset, wondering why the detective would want to blackmail her. She had a hunch that the person she was going to the company to see was behind the pictures getting to the detective, and she had to get to the root of it.
The day wasn't over yet, so she knew she would meet him at the office. As soon as she arrived, she stormed into Maxwell's office, slamming the door shut and causing him to jolt. He stopped what he was doing and stared at Vivian like she had grown two heads.
“What the fuck? What did you do that for? What are you even doing here? I thought you went on a trip.” He said to her, but she was just staring at her, not knowing what to do next.
“Why did you send those photos to the detective?” She asked, surprisingly calm. Maxwell's eyes widened in shock, but he quickly covered them up to hide how tense he was feeling at that moment.
“What photos? What detective?”
“Don't fucking lie to me, Maxwell! I know it's you! I know you've been working with Rod2020, and I know you also sent those photos to Scarlett!” She was on the verge of crying, but she sniffed back her tears instantly.
“I don't know what.” Maxwell stuttered.
“Tell the fucking truth!!” She screamed.
“Okay fine!!” He screamed back, the pressure getting to him. He fumed, his face squeezing into a tight frown. Vivian had to step back because he had never looked so scary.
“You're nothing but a pain in the ass, Vivian, and that's why I did all of this. I want to get rid of you!” She watched him as tears slowly fell from her eyes.
“Yes! I did hire Rod in 2020 and do all those terrible things, but that was because I couldn't stand to see you in the position meant for me! I deserve it more than you ever will! I've given the best years of my life to this company, but they kicked me to the curb, placing you, a novice, in charge.” He paused and wiped his forehead. He appeared dangerous at that moment.
“You are despicable, Maxwell. Even more disgusting than I thought!” Vivian stared at him in terror.
“You're fired.” She sniffed.
“What?” His voice suddenly became calm.
“You heard me, Maxwell. Pack your things and leave because you're fired!”
