Freya's POV
"What? Someone took your role? That bitch! Do you know who she is?"
Novia, who was sitting across from me, exclaimed angrily.
I was currently at Novia's house, sharing the recent developments with my best friend.
"I don't know," I replied, lost in thought.
"So, you mentioned that Michael left your number. Will he get in touch with you?"
"I don't know," I said, shrugging helplessly.
Novia immediately joined me in silence.
While I was rambling on, my cell phone suddenly started ringing.
Seeing an unknown number, I hung up. However, the caller persisted, and the phone rang again right after I hung up.
I had to pick up the phone and go outside to answer it.
"Hello?"
"It's me."
I froze for a moment. "Mr. Harper?"
"Uh," Michael skipped the pleasantries and got straight to the point. "Are you free tomorrow morning? Can you come over and audition for a role?"
The situation unfolded suddenly, leaving my mind in a whirl. "Didn't you already sign another actor?"
"It's a different role. Are you interested in giving it a try?"
"Sure!" As if fearing he might change his mind, I agreed quickly.
"The part is quite small, and the pay is relatively low. Are you sure?"
I hesitated for a moment. The next second, I asked, "Food provided?"
"For breakfast, you're on your own. Lunch and dinner will be provided. And if there's a night shoot, we'll have some snacks available."
"Then that's not an issue." I said happily.
"Great. Come over tomorrow for the audition. I'll send you the time and address to your phone. Here's my number. Save it."
After hanging up the phone, I still felt a bit dazed.
"Ah! Awesome, I knew it. Freya, you're the best!" exclaimed Novia excitedly, right beside me.
I didn't know if it was due to my overwhelming happiness, but suddenly I felt dizzy.
Blood rushed to the top of my head, my cheeks grew hot, and the image in front of my eyes began to shake.
I keenly sensed that something wasn't quite right with me, and my cell phone suddenly fell to the ground.
As I bent down to pick it up, the shaking in front of me worsened.
The next thing I knew, I woke up in a hospital room.
Novia was seated by the hospital bed, taking a nap.
As I attempted to move, I realized there was still a needle in my arm, and the medicine was gradually dripping into my body from above my head.
"Novia..." I tried to speak, but my throat felt dry and sore. A few coughs escaped before I managed to say anything.
The sound startled Novia, and she woke up in a hurry, asking anxiously, "Freya, you're finally awake!"
I looked at the worried Novia and reassured her, "I'm not fully awake yet, but I'm fine."
Novia's expression suddenly turned a bit grim, and she fell silent.
Sensing that something was amiss, I recalled the doctor's vague words from the previous checkup, and my heart sunk. "What's wrong?"
Novia stammered, "I'll go fetch the doctor. They should explain the details to you."
With that, she left to find the doctor. The doctor arrived promptly, scanning the report in her hand.
She inquired, "Are you married?"
I nodded.
"Do you have any children?"
I shook my head.
The doctor's brow furrowed momentarily before she continued, "Well, have you been on any long-term medications?"
I shook my head again, saying, "No, I'm in good health. I rarely get sick."
Seeing the gravity in the doctor's expression, my voice dropped as I asked, "Doctor, what's wrong with me?"
The doctor raised her head, her eyes holding a hint of pity. After a pause, she spoke, "Your condition is showing signs of your wolf weakening, and the cause is currently unknown."
I was shocked. "What would happen then?"
"It will significantly reduce your fertility from the outset, and in more severe cases, your wolf will ultimately vanish. When that occurs..."
"By then, I'll have become an Omega," I murmured, with a pale face, struggling to fully accept the doctor's assertion.
But I'd always maintained a regular routine, exercise consistently, and undergo regular medical checkups.
So how could this have happened?
"If you don't believe it," the doctor asserted, "you can return for a more comprehensive examination, but the results shouldn't differ significantly."
I plummeted emotionally like a stone.
Beside me, Novia stifled a sob, her head contorted in anguish.
The doctor offered consolation, "And don't stress excessively. Although there are signs of debilitation within your wolf, the positive aspect is that it was detected in time. With proper conditioning and timely medication, recovery is not an insurmountable challenge."
The doctor then inquired, "Are you certain you're not taking any long-term medication? I've noticed the presence of a suspicious drug component in your blood work."
I was on the verge of shaking my head when I suddenly recollected the medicine Grace had found for me over an extended period.
My complexion slightly altered, and I promptly disclosed, "I've been taking medicine for quite some time that's supposed to promote pregnancy. Could that be the medication detected in my blood?"
"It's difficult to ascertain. Do you have any of those medicine that you could bring for me to examine the ingredients?" the doctor requested.
For a few moments, my heart sank.
A suspicion took root in my mind.
I swiftly asked Novia to retrieve a bottle of the medication from my residence.
Novia acted promptly and returned with the items within about twenty minutes.
Upon receiving the medicine, I promptly brought it to the doctor for analysis.
Eventually, the doctor arrived with the analyzed medication.
After an extended wait, upon seeing the doctor, I could hardly contain my eagerness to inquire, "Doctor, is there something wrong with this medicine?"
"We detected wolfsbane in it," the doctor disclosed.
In an instant, a chilling sensation coursed through me, from the crown of my head to the soles of my feet.
"Those jerks!" Novia hurled the cup against the wall, then approached and embraced me tightly, trying to hold back her tears.
Suddenly, Joyce's words from that day at the company flashed into my mind, "Freya, have you ever wondered why you couldn't conceive for such a long time?"
So she had already known...
Then what about Kingsley?
Did he also know about this?
My hands began to tremble uncontrollably, as if my entire existence was cloaked in an enormous conspiracy.
The doctor failed to notice the shift in my complexion and let out a sigh, "You mustn't take this medicine again."
I snapped back to reality and pinched my palms, trying to calm myself down.
"Doctor, is there any chance of a cure in my case?"
"Fortunately, it was caught early, and with treatment, you can at least prevent your wolf from further weakening."
"So... Is it still possible for me to get pregnant?"
My voice was barely audible.
The doctor remained silent for a moment before saying, "Well, you will always have a chance in the future."
Once more, my heart sank.
