Freya's POV
"Wait, are you saying that the lawyer I introduced you to is Kingsley's friend? The same handsome guy who helped you earlier?"
I nodded, "Did it instantly feel like such a small world?"
Novia was silent for a moment and then whispered, "So, does Kingsley know that you hired Finley to sue Tracy's fans?"
I said, "I don't know. Finley promised to keep it a secret for me."
"No wonder Kingsley sounded so anxious the last time he called... He was worried you'd been taken away by another man, huh?" Novia teased.
"No, Kingsley would never worry about that! After all, you know, he doesn't love me!" I responded.
Novia was about to say something else when a call came in on my end. "It's Kingsley's mother. I'll take it and talk to you later."
After hanging up, I took a deep breath and answered the call, my tone instantly becoming polite and composed, "Grace? Why are you calling? Looking for Kingsley?"
"I'm looking for you." Grace's voice was clear and cold.
"Me?" I furrowed my eyebrows, "Then what do you want to talk to me about?"
Grace got straight to the point, "I heard you said you were pregnant at the party."
I hadn't expected Grace to call about that. "There might have been a misunderstanding, and I'm not pregnant."
Grace didn't seem to believe me. "I heard from my friend that you and Kingsley were there and admitted it. How could it be untrue?"
I had to explain, "I think your friend didn't understand what I meant. My exact words were that I would share good news if I had any."
"How could we keep something as big as a pregnancy from you?" I added.
"Sarah mentioned that you haven't been taking your medication on time lately. What's going on?"
I made an excuse, "The hospital called a while ago and said my mom wasn't doing too well. I stayed with her in the hospital for a few days. Those were the only days I didn't take my medication, and I've been taking them on time since I got back."
I didn't know if she believed it or not. After a moment of silence, she said, "I'll pick you up tomorrow, and we'll go to the hospital for a checkup."
My forehead twitched slightly. "I've only been off my period for a short while. There's no way I'm pregnant."
It would be beneficial for me to persuade Grace to gradually stop asking me to have that medication starting tomorrow, assuming the test results returned as normal.
The mere thought of that drug made me feel nauseated once again!
"By the way," Grace interjected as we ended the call, "Do you have any idea why Kingsley had Joyce in the bathroom all night?"
I was taken aback and cautiously inquired, "Are you saying Joyce was locked in the restroom last night?"
I was genuinely shocked to learn that Kingsley had indeed confined Joyce to the restroom throughout the night!
Grace posed a rhetorical question, "You weren't aware of this?"
Surprised, I replied, "After the party, I went to see my mom. I had no knowledge of what unfolded afterwards."
Grace, who seemed a bit bothered, dismissed the matter, "Never mind then. Remember to come to the hospital tomorrow, and I'll meet you at the entrance."
The following day, upon my arrival at the hospital, Grace greeted me and casually inquired, "We're planning to proceed with the blood test shortly. You haven't eaten anything, correct?"
I nodded in confirmation.
Grace followed up, "Does Kingsley know that I recommended you to come in for a checkup?"
"I didn't tell him," I responded.
Grace didn't pursue the topic further.
After our conversation ended, I advised Grace, "Why don't you wait here? The tests will be conducted in the building across the street. I'll come find you once I'm done."
I then initiated the blood and urine tests before proceeding to the ultrasound room.
The ultrasound room was quite busy that day. I waited by the door until my name was called.
The attending physician was a young doctor. After scrutinizing me for a while, she suddenly inquired, "Have you undergone any surgeries before?"
"A few years ago, I had a minor surgery due to a car accident. Is there a reason you're asking, Doctor?"
"Surgery from a car accident?" The young doctor pondered for a moment, seeming reluctant to jump to conclusions.
Eventually, she stated, "Please leave me your phone number. If any further questions arise, I'll get in touch with you."
After confirming all the items, nearly an hour had elapsed.
Grace received a phone call and departed.
Left alone, I had to take a taxi back home.
Upon my arrival, I couldn't help but think of the doctor's demeanor and his words from earlier in the day.
My heart fluttered with unease.
Could there truly be something amiss with my health?
"Luna Freya, it's time for your medication," Sarah's voice broke through my contemplations.
Before I could turn my head, the familiar scent of the medicine wafted into my senses.
Sarah placed the medicine bowl on the table and unwrapped a package of candy, setting it in front of me.
"This candy was sent over by Madam Grace. It's particularly sweet. After you're done with the medicine, keep one in your mouth to counteract the bitterness.
I let out a sigh. Reflecting on Grace's warning, I decided to follow it.
This time, I downed the medicine in one go, much to the nanny's surprise. I set down the bowl and took a few sips of water, hoping to alleviate the medicinal aftertaste.
"Sarah, I will adhere to the medication schedule going forward. You needn't report every detail to the higher-ups," I addressed Sarah with a hint of caution in my tone.
Sarah blushed, "Luna Freya, I'm not entirely sure what you mean..."
I cast her a glance, "My mother-in-law brought you in to care for us. Isn't the primary objective to ensure my timely medication? I'll commit to the medication routine, but matters like my disagreement with Kingsley or our cohabitation—those are personal issues between us as a couple. If you can't respect this boundary, I won't hesitate to suggest to my husband that he replace his nanny. I'm certain he wouldn't defend a traitor."
Loyalty was of utmost importance to werewolves, and those who betrayed their masters were never tolerated.
Sarah's expression hardened, and she quickly responded in a quivering voice, "Alright! I apologize. It won't happen again!"
