Kingsley's POV
"Hey, dude, I witnessed your wife entwined with another man, hand in hand."
As Mark's message reached me, I found myself engrossed in a meeting with the senior leaders of the Wright Group.
While the group's vice president addressed us, my phone buzzed on the table.
I reached for my phone, tapping on the message Mark had sent. Attached thoughtfully at the end of his message was a photo he had taken.
The image was captured from afar, obscuring the details of the figures involved, but the attire undeniably belonged to Freya. The man accompanying her remained concealed amidst the greenery lining the street, rendering him indistinct.
My brow furrowed.
Possibly due to the delay in my response, Mark's impatience grew evident through his subsequent messages:
"Is your Luna leaving you for someone new?"
"But this new paramour is dreadfully unworthy, taking her to such a humble eatery. What does she see in him?"
I disregarded his inquiries, opting instead to message Freya.
"Where are you?"
"Why haven't you replied?"
"Get back to me."
"Are you intentionally ignoring my messages, Freya?"
After a while, I finally received a reply from Freya: "I was ordering some food just now."
"Where are you?" I replied.
"I'm having dinner in the university town."
"Weren't you out shopping with your friends?"
"Yeah, I just finished shopping and felt a bit hungry, so I went to have dinner."
This infuriating woman...
I tightened my grip on the phone, envisioning Freya merrily enjoying a meal with another man. A pang of irritation pricked at my chest, and my wolf grew anxious.
The phone buzzed once more, and it was a message from Freya. "Kingsley, have you eaten yet? If not, I can bring you something."
My agitated heart found solace. "Good."
In fact, I went further, posing a question: "When will you arrive?"
"I've just arrived at the store, and I'm still waiting in line, so I suppose it'll be a two-hour wait before I can get a table," Freya responded. "How about I order some takeout for you? The wait seems long, and I'm afraid you might be hungry."
A short while later, I replied to her message, saying, "No rush, I'm currently in a meeting, so two hours is perfect."
Freya replied, "Okay."
It was nearly two o'clock when Freya finally arrived, running late as usual.
She was carrying a lot of stuff, not only with the meal she brought for me, but also with the stuff she had bought from a shopping spree at the mall.
As she entered the building, the receptionist hurried over to assist her with the items she was carrying.
The receptionist reached out to help, but when she looked up and saw me standing in the corridor, she became frightened and hastily withdrew her hand.
Curiously, I couldn't fathom why, upon learning that she would come and bring me some food, a hint of restlessness seized hold of me. Consequently, I went down ahead of time, eagerly anticipating her arrival.
"Alpha..." the receptionist stammered.
Freya turned her head and saw me. Immediately, she put on a smile and said, "Kingsley, were you anxiously waiting?"
I let out a disdainful snort through my nose and replied, "So you finally decided to come."
Freya smiled and said, "I could have arrived half an hour earlier, but I stopped by to pick up some clothes. I saw some new arrivals and thought they were nice, so I ended up buying two ties for you. It took a bit of time."
I felt a slight twinge in my heart as I looked at the bags she was carrying. My tone softened, and I lightly retorted, "That's quite a few excuses."
I gestured for her to follow me and we proceeded with her belongings to my office.
"This pizza is absolutely delicious, and their pasta is authentically made, you won't find anything like it if you come late. Oh, and I also bought you a salad to aid digestion."
Freya delicately unfolded each food item, treating them as if they were precious family heirlooms. With a raised eyebrow, she gave the fork towards me and said, "Kingsley, please enjoy your meal."
Accepting the fork, I spoke casually, "Didn't Theo provide you with enough money to get by when you were in school?"
Freya paused for a moment and replied with confusion, "What's the matter?"
Glancing at her, I remarked, "Well, you seemed to know a lot about dishes, so I assumed you had experience serving in a restaurant."
Freya shot me a glare and disregarded my comment, turning her attention to the new set of clothes she had acquired.
She then stated, "Although the money I spent on shopping today is my own, I'm not as stingy as you. Here, these two ties are for you."
I responded, "Must I express my gratitude, then?"
Freya offered a smile and said, "That won't be necessary, as long as you keep your promise to give me a billion and reject me."
I let out a faint "hm" and instructed her, "Go and prepare a cup of coffee for me."
Freya busied herself with removing the price tags, saying, "You can ask Jeremy to do that."
I asked, "Are you planning to split half of the billion with him?"
Freya hesitated for a moment, then stood up with a forced smile and said, "Very well, I'll go immediately! Please wait a moment~"
Shortly after Freya left, Jeremy entered the room.
I stood next to the sofa, engrossed in my phone, as I rummaged through the stuff in the bag.
I inquired without looking up at him, "Is something the matter?"
Jeremy replied, "Your father-in-law... Mr. Yost wants to invest in Chance Technology. And Mr. Chance knows of Mr. Yost's connection to you, so he called to seek your opinion."
Barron Chance, the founder of Chance Technology, was my senior during my time at the University, where he obtained a Ph.D. in Physics.
After declining a lucrative position at a top 100 company, he ventured out on his own, establishing Chance Technology and focusing on independent chip research and development.
Barron contacted me through a classmate, hoping that I would invest in Chance Technology.
After careful evaluation and investigation, I acquired 60% of the company's shares for $30 million, becoming the majority shareholder and effectively controlling Chance Technology.
Meanwhile, numerous talented individuals in the industry were lured in with lucrative salaries, leading to the expansion of the entire laboratory.
At the onset of this year, Chance Technology achieved a significant breakthrough, enticing many businessmen who sensed the alluring aroma of business opportunities and extended olive branches.
However, how could Theo, engrossed in the realm of low-end electrical appliances, be privy to such knowledge?
"How much does he intend to invest?"
As I uttered these words, I captured a snapshot of the tie Freya had purchased for me, using my phone, while displaying a hint of dissatisfaction and adjusting the angle once more.
"He conveyed to Mr. Chance discreetly, stating a minimum of 80 million," Jeremy responded.
A pause followed my thoughts racing, "His company's half-year revenue doesn't amount to 80 million. Where did he acquire such funds?"
Jeremy shook his head, relaying, "Mr. Chance mentioned that Mr. Yost spoke with great vigor, unlike someone who was merely boasting."
Deep in contemplation, I suggested, "Go and investigate who Theo has recently been in contact with and ascertain his activities."
"Very well. And what about Mr. Chance?"
"Inform him to continue his research without any concerns. I will assign someone else to handle this matter."
"Understood," Jeremy acknowledged, concluding his report, and just as he was about to depart, I called out to him once more, "Wait, don't leave yet."
Jeremy froze in place.
With a casual tone, I inquired, "Are you skilled at taking photographs?"
Jeremy hesitated for a moment and then replied, "Yes, I am."
Handing him my phone, I instructed, "Assist me in capturing images of these ties. Ensure they are well-photographed."
Jeremy paused for a second, but soon, he took my phone and arranged the items to be photographed, expertly composing light and shadows, and took the desired pictures.
"Alpha, is this satisfactory?"
As I perused the images, I nodded approvingly, "Yes, it will suffice."
Once Jeremy departed the office, I retrieved my phone and composed a text message, attaching the recently taken photos, and sent it to Mark. "In your nearly three decades of existence, has anyone other women than your mother ever bought you ties? Well, I have."
