Lena hurried into the office and saw the frosty gaze of her boss, glaring at her furiously. What had she done to make him feel so furious with her?
“How did this trash get in here?” He demanded, his index finger pointing to the beautiful flowers that had found itself in the trash can.
“Miss Jessica brought it for you and since you're both acquaintances, I let her drop it on your desk…” Lena was explaining when Patrick yelled at her.
“Do I look like I am an acquaintance of Jessica? How dare you allow that woman into my office?” His tone was filled with contempt for the one who brought the flowers.
Lena couldn't find her voice to answer Patrick Connor. She saw them both together the previous day and even went to lunch together. They're not lovers but they really get together.
“I'm sorry sir” Lena apologised. She didn't expect that from yesterday to that morning, their closeness had become history. Something has gone wrong and she was wondering too, why would Jessica bring him flowers?
“Get out!” Patrick thundered. He glared at Lena coldly as she hurriedly walked out of the office.
What was Jessica thinking, that she could bribe him into ignoring her insubordination? He wished she'd known that he doesn't fall for flowers at all.
Few minutes later, he was walking out of the office. He needed to be at the meeting taking place at the conference hall. As he pulled the door open, Jessica bumped into him accidentally.
She didn't expect that he would be stepping out so soon after his arrival. She was going to get in, since Lena already told her that he's in.
“Mr Connor…” Jessica stuttered, pulling herself away quickly from Patrick, her chin flushed with redness and she swallowed hard.
Rather than say anything, Patrick glared at her and simply dust his suit off before ordering “Get out of my way!” He seethed.
His voice was cold and Jessica swallowed hard. Quickly she stepped aside and Patrick walked away in long strides. Jessica had never experienced such an aura from him ever.
“Is everything okay?” Lena asked, focusing on her computer, doing something to keep her busy. She doesn't know why but she felt something wasn't right about the boss and Miss Jessica.
Yesterday they were like lovers, and the next morning, they had become strangers. What the heck is going on? She hopes things that happened behind closed doors aren't responsible for this sudden change in attitude.
“Doesn't seem so” Jessica replied and quickly added “excuse me, and walked away briskly to her office. Patrick Connor is still mad at her, didn't he see the flower and the note of apology she left on his desk?
Patrick went from one meeting to the other and Jessica couldn't get a glimpse of him for the rest of the day. She ended up going home without apologising to him as instructed by Adrian.
That evening, Adrian and Aurora decided to visit Clara Leon again. The older woman was so happy to see the couple. Her eyes went moist.
Who would have said that Adrian would ever love her daughter in this lifetime? He hates her more than death itself and doesn't care slighting her at the tiniest provocation.
But at that time when everyone thought she'd died, that was when his blinded eyes got opened to loving her. And thank goodness, he got a second chance to be with her.
“How're you doing Aunt?” Adrian asked. His men brought in gifts for Mrs Clara and she beamed with excitement. Aurora sat next to her foster mother and caressed her hair.
She saw how her hair had grey hairs scattered all over it. She smiled. Those days when her mom will bond her hair, styled it and treats those long beautiful hairs of hers.
But now, she'd kept it short. People desire changes as they grow older. And now, that her papa had died, her mama wouldn't find things interesting like she used to.
“I'm fine Adrian. How's your father doing?” Clara Leon asked. Lately Richard Lester is seen almost everywhere with that woman, Luna Wesley.
She's an interesting woman and they are like acquaintances whenever they meet. Looks like Richard is still in love with his first love, Patrick's mother.
“Dad is doing fine,” Adrian answered. His conscience was having a hint of guilt in it. He hadn't really seen or talked to his dad in days now.
His mom is no more and his dad is lonely. Grandfather too, is not doing well health wise. Perhaps he would take Aurora and visit them one of these days.
Clara appreciated them and said “I'm so happy that you're both happy. You know what, my husband's worries until his death was Ava. He wants her to be happy.
He wants her to live the life that he wishes he could afford for her. Looking at us from the sky, he definitely would be happy that his daughter is happy with you, Adrian…” Clara chimed.
Her excitement was obvious. She smiled, holding hands with Aurora. The latter sniffled. All those pains her papa had gone through, she wished he was alive to be happy like her mama.
Now, she'd made her mama happy, giving her all the necessities of life that money could afford. Even in business, she'd made her mama owned a big grocery store while still being a shareholder in the company she owned with Patrick.
“Thanks Aunt. I wished I had known half of the things I know now, I wouldn't have made so many mistakes. I almost lost Aurora and my daughter, and I would never have been a normal person, if I truly lost them” Adrian confessed, his voice carrying a weight of remorse.
He glanced at Aurora, her eyes welled up with tears and he winked an eye “She's the most important thing in my life now, Aurora is the best thing that ever happened to me and she gave me the greatest gift of my life: Elsie Lester”
Aurora's sniff became louder.
