His Unwanted Bride (Married by Mistake)

178: Left alone

Ch. 178 / 183 Mar 06, 2026

Patrick glanced at Adrian casually and looked away. No one gets really close to his mom and wouldn't fall in love with her. Maybe it's her charisma or it's simply magical.

If Adrian of all people could start loving her, it only means that his mom would be on par with angels soon. Because hardly can anyone not love angels.

“Luna is an amazing woman. She'd been here often these few days to check up on Father. And last night, she decided to stay up all night by his bedside when she saw his critical condition…” Richard stuttered.

The women were busy, instructing the maids and supervising them. Things need to be put in order and a real touch of perfection is all they require.

“Aunt Luna, we could just sit and watch. Hasn't the entire decoration been contracted out to a company already?” Aurora urged.

The decorations of the mansion have been really given out to a company, now they just needed to await the beautiful work of art that would be done.

Jessica knew Luna to be Patrick's mother. She liked the woman immediately they met and exchanged a few words like some old school friends.

Adrian has a loving family. His mother is dead but Luna would be a great step mom for him. Their lives would be complete and they'll all be happy except her.

Luna's phone chirped. When she saw the caller ID, a broad smile registered on her face. She answered her phone “Hi Amanda, it's thoughtful of you to check on me again…” Luna was excited.

Aurora and Jessica exchanged glances and they smiled. Luna appeared to be so excited, from the way she was smiling from ear to ear as she talked on the phone.

“How's your new job, Jessica?” Aurora whispered. She initiated a conversation since Luna is on the phone.

“It's been fine so far” Jessica replied, but her eyes darted towards Patrick. He seemed to be busy with his brother and dad. She's hoping for a quick opportunity where she could go to him alone and apologise.

“With Patrick as the boss, you won't have any difficulty,” Aurora assured. She'd known that Patrick always has a soft spot for women and considers them first before their male colleagues.

“Hmmm…. yeah..” Jessica responded, forcing a smile. It appears there will be a lot of difficulties for her in the coming days if she doesn't get things straightened out between them.

“We'll have a fourth companion now, ladies. A friend of mine is here, Amanda Williams” Luna announced, interrupting their conversation.

Their eyes brightened up for excitement as they glanced at the direction of the door. There stood Patrick, his hands wrapped around a woman's waist and a seemingly tight hug.

“I think she and Patrick are getting really close now” Luna added, happy at the turn out of their date. She probably hasn't made a mistake by arranging that meeting between them.

Jessica's eyes went cold and she furrowed her brows. For the first time since she'd met Patrick, this is the first time he was showing intimacy with a woman and an unpleasant feeling spurts out within her.

Aurora smiled. That's it, Patrick can get into a relationship after all, it's all deserving.

Patrick turned to glance at his mom and his gaze locked with Jessica. As sudden as his gaze locked with her, so quickly he glanced at his mother.

Together they held hands and came before Luna “Mom, I didn't expect Amanda to show up” Patrick blurted as soon as they came before his mother.

“And yet, you're happy that she showed up after all” Luna chimed, holding Amanda in a hug.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Patrick declared. At that moment, he shifted his gaze away from Jessica. He doesn't want her anywhere around him except that she's Adrian's friend and grandfather belongs to them both. He can't stop her from coming even if he wanted to.

Patrick got Amanda introduced to the other ladies and slipped away. He returned to join others. For the rest of the evening, Jessica lost concentration and composure.

Why is she feeling restless? During the candle night, she was often lost in her thoughts that Aurora's words kept jerking her back to the moment.

For once, Amanda hadn't stepped aside from Patrick's side. When Aurora went to stay by Adrian's side, Luna had no option than to be at Richard’s side too.

Everyone present assumed that Richard and Luna were civil partners, hence no one bats an eyelid. After all,Luna is the mother to Richard's first son.

It was an all night event. Jessica was lonely. She glanced around, not familiar with anyone around. She saw how Amanda glued herself to Patrick and at the slightest opportunity, she held hands with him.

Soon, the night was getting darker, people started leaving. She wanted to wait but the night got colder. And the hosts had gotten so busy that none of them glanced or remembered she was there.

As the hall got fewer, she also left. Was she wrong to have attended the candle night? Is Patrick in love with another woman and yet, slept with her?

She felt guilty before that woman called Amanda. She'd screwed her man and yet, she smiled and shook hands with her when they were introduced.

Isn't that hypocritical?

Late into the night, Adrian glanced around and realized that all along, Jessica was not by their sides. This woman who came from who knows where, is by Patrick's side.

He had thought Jessica would be by Patrick's side but another woman slipped in between them. From that moment he realized that his brother and Jessica had made love, he'd desperately wanted her to be closer to him.

“Where's Jessica?” Adrian whispered, his gaze on Aurora. He saw his woman squinted and glared back at him, completely lost.

They both locked around, the hall was empty except for their employees in the mansion. A gush of guilt flooded down at Aurora's conscience.

“I guess she'd left,” Aurora informed, her eyes filled with guilt.
