Leah’s POV
Tears were streaming down my face, and I stretched out my arms to push Lucas away from me, but he wouldn't let me.
"Lucas, that's why I came here to talk to you. The thing is, I've already got a second chance. It's Finn..." I whispered. My voice was barely audible over the sound of my beating heart.
"Leah, are you trying to say something like this to hurt me? Is this what you want to do?" Lucas took a deep breath in an attempt to control his emotions.
"No, Lucas. I'm telling you the truth. Finn is my second chance. He's my new mate..."
Lucas' lips pressed together tightly. He looked visibly crossed, with a tense and rigid posture. I knew he was trying to compose himself before reacting. Despite his efforts, his voice trembled slightly as he spoke, revealing the depth of his hurt and anger -
"This is enough, Leah. Stop hanging out with that male whore. Do you know who he is and what he has done in his life?"
"As a matter of fact, I don't, and I certainly don't care about what happened to him in the past. He's my mate now and we've found each other. That's all it matters."
Lucas threw the cigarette butt to the floor and said in a low voice, "Leah, I know you won't believe what I'm telling you right now, but that male whore is sent to you for a reason. I've already asked Jorah to investigate the background of this person. When the result is out, I will definitely let you know."
This was outrageous. Why couldn't this man accept the fact that I was better off without him? This man was like a black hole, which was trying to pull me back toward complete darkness and misery.
Only this time, I wouldn't let him have his way.
I collected myself and said in a plain voice, "Lucas, I don't want to know anything. Could you please just sign the divorce papers and leave me alone? I want to live my new chapter of life now and I'm afraid that you're not in it. I'm going to walk away now. Do not try to stop me this time."
I said and walked into the restaurant, but my arm was grabbed by Lucas.
Just when I was about to throw his hand away from me, the giant sign of Soprano's fell from the room to the ground. With a loud bang, it smashed into pieces right in front of me.
I was completely petrified.
Lucas dragged me behind his back and shielded me with his body.
Then, he turned back and held me tightly into his arms.
Feeling frightened, I looked up at Lucas. If it wasn't for him, I would have been smashed into a paste of meat patty by the giant sign.
"Lucas, you..." I mumbled.
"Don't be afraid, Leah. I'm here," Lucas said, busy flicking the dust and shards off my hair.
"No, Lucas. You're bleeding..." I lifted my hand, trying to wipe the blood off his forehead.
"Just some scratch. It will heal. Don't worry," Lucas said and carried me up in his arms.
I was too terrified to say a word.
"Leah, you're in great danger now." Lucas stared into my eyes and said. "I can't leave you out of my sight. You have to come with me."
"No, Lucas..." My throat started to get dry. "Listen to me, your head is bleeding and it doesn't stop. I have to take you to the doctor right now!"
At that time, Troy and Finn ran out of the shop.
When they saw what happened, Troy ran toward me and asked in a panic, "Leah! What happened?! Are you hurt?!"
"No, I'm not hurt. We were talking and this whole thing fell off the roof. It almost hit me! Lucas grabbed me and protected me, but he must have got cut or something..."
As I looked at Lucas, his face started turning pale. He had lost too much blood and he could barely stand up straight.
I was horrified and held Lucas in my arms, but his body kept falling down. I screamed, "Troy, he's bleeding badly now and it won't stop! Why doesn't it stop?! He's supposed to heal himself!"
Troy took Lucas in his arms and said, "Leah, go to the car right now. I'm going to drive you back to the lake house with Finn and Lucas. You stay at the lake house and take some good rest. Leave the rest of this whole thing to me..."
"Finn... Where's Finn?!" I looked around and panicked. All I could see was dust and debris.
As I looked up at the roof, I saw Finn's figure on top of the roof.
How did he get on the roof that fast?! He was with Troy just now!
At that moment, Finn jumped off the roof like some sort of big cat and landed on the ground steadily.
As I took another glance at him, I saw that he was holding a leg in his hand.
A human leg. Freshly ripped off someone's body. Dripping with blood.
"Finn! What happened?!" I screamed.
"I saw a man on the roof. I grabbed his leg, but he managed to escape." Finn replied.
"So you rip off his leg?!" I was shocked.
Finn immediately threw the leg on the floor, as if a child took something on the side of the road and got told off. He stared at me with fear and confusion.
"I'm sorry, Leah... I was just trying to..." Finn murmured.
I took a glance at Lucas, who almost lost consciousness. I knew I had to remain calm in a crisis like this. So I turned to Finn and said, "Finn, come here and take Lucas back to the car. I'll drive all three of us to the lake house. Troy, bag that leg and let soldiers canvas this whole area. A man missing a leg won't go too far."
"Leah, I can't let you go back to the lake house by yourself," Troy said.
"Troy! For once in your life, do what you've been told!" I shouted. "Someone is trying to kill me twice within the last 2 hours and I have to know who this person is! And I won't be driving alone. I have Finn with me."
"I don't think he could protect you, Leah," Troy said as he started to bag the leg with a takeaway bag from the restaurant.
"Did you see that leg?! He ripped off a person's leg. He sure could protect me," I said, getting into the car.
"I don't trust him. He might want to hurt you." Troy said and took a glance at Lucas. "And your deadbeat ex-mate is pretty useless right now."
At that time, I suddenly heard a familiar voice -
"Anyone needs help?"
I looked up and saw Darren Swanson walking into my sight.
