Goodbye, My Mate

Chapter 74

Ch. 74 / 291 Aug 06, 2025

Leah's POV

I looked up and saw Lucas walking toward us, looking cross.

He was wearing a white silk shirt and a pair of jeans. I had never ever seen him wearing casual clothes before. He was either wearing suits or, well, wearing nothing in bed with me.

The shirt hugged his broad shoulders and chest, emphasizing his muscular physique. And the denim of his jeans clung to his long, strong legs, hinting at the power within. As he walked, the faded denim whispered softly against the floor, the sound of a confident man moving with anger.

As he walked across the restaurant, heads turned and women whispered to each other in admiration. He was a man who commanded attention without even trying, a natural magnet for all those around him. Yes, my ex-mate and ex-husband-wanna-be seemed at home in the world, and it was impossible not to be drawn to him.

Finn instinctively held me behind his back and blocked me from Lucas, which I felt so flattered.

Lucas' facial expression quickly changed from calm to anger when he saw Finn's reaction. His brows furrowed and his jaw tightened, causing deep lines to appear on his forehead.

"Leave my wife alone," Lucas said in a cold voice word by word.

"No," Finn said decisively. "Leah's mine."

I was melting inside. This was the first time that Finn openly expressed his feelings toward me.

But at the same time, I knew that these words would set Lucas on fire. His eyes narrowed as he tried to make sense of what he had just heard.

The last thing I wanted was to turn my favorite pizza restaurant into a battlefield. So I said, "Guys, could we please just be civil and take it outside?"

Lucas took a glance at me and didn't say a word. Then, he abruptly grabbed my arm, trying to drag me outside.

Finn pushed Lucas away and pulled me toward him.

"Leave Leah alone!" Finn roared.

"She's my wife, you fucking male whore!" Lucas snarled.

I couldn't believe that I was literally like a rag doll, being pulled left and right between two men. Troy heard the noise and rushed inside. As soon as he saw this situation, he didn't hesitate. He grabbed a chair, raised it above his head, and tried to smash it on Lucas' back.

Feeling humiliated and scared, I stomped my feet and raised my voice, "Everyone! Stop! Lucas! Go outside! Finn! Stay in the restaurant! Troy! Put down the chair in your hands and stay with Finn! If anyone wants to see me again, do what you were told! Now!"

Troy put down the chair in his hands straight away. Lucas took a glance at both Finn and Troy, kicked that chair, and walked out of the room. Finn was still holding my hand. He was terrified and furious at the same time. He wouldn't let go of me.

I hugged him and said in a soothing voice, "Sorry for yelling at you. Sorry for this lousy lunch experience. I'm going to talk to Lucas for a while. Troy will stay with you."

Finn nodded reluctantly and said, "But, Leah, he will hurt you..."

I kissed him on his cheek and said, "No, Finn. He just wants to talk to me. I promise that I will come back to you as soon as possible. It won't be long."

Then, I rushed out of the restaurant.

Lucas was standing on the side of the road, lighting up a cigarette. An enigmatic figure amidst the passing traffic. His tall frame was shrouded in the shadow of the nearby tree, but the glowing ember at the tip of the cigarette he held between his fingers illuminated his chiseled features. The smoke he exhaled was a billowing cloud, enveloping him in a haze of misery.

My head was buzzing and my heartbeat was accelerating. My wolf was shouting hysterically at the back of my mind -

"I want to fuck him! I just want to jump at him and have a hundred cubs for him!"

"He's no longer your mate," I warned her in my mind.

"He rejected you, not me. I want him and I want him now," my wolf whined.

I shook my head, ignored her desperate pleading, and approached Lucas.

"Lucas, you can't just..."

"What?" He turned around to face me. And at that moment, my heart almost stopped beating.

"You can't just show up wherever I am and..."

"What?" He took a step forward.

My tongue was twisted. I couldn't say a word. Lucas looked more handsome than I had ever seen him before, wearing those damn jeans and a silk shirt. His eyes were bright. And the soft sunlight danced across his face.

Taking a deep breath, Lucas held me in his arms. I didn't resist. His chest was broad, warm, and steady. I would be a fool to push him away. I had been longing for a moment of this for a long time. I could smell the scent of his cologne and cigarette.

"Leah, I came here to talk to you," he said.

I looked up at him with a curious expression. I could feel that my body was trembling slightly. I couldn't control it.

"What is it?" I mumbled with my eyes locking onto his.

Lucas' voice was shaking with emotion. "I love you, Leah. I've loved you ever since I met you for the first time. I didn't realize it at that time. I admit that I wasn't a good husband. I wasn't a good mate. It was all my fault. But ever since you were gone, I couldn't sleep. I couldn't eat. Whenever I closed my eyes, the only thing I saw was you."

I gasped and my eyes widened in surprise. I could feel tears beginning to well up in my eyes.

"Lucas, this isn't fair... You've already rejected me. I don't know what to say..." I stammered.

He held me more tightly. I could feel his heart pounding in his chest. "You don't have to say anything. I just need you to know how I feel. You've always meant everything to me and I know it's too late to say it, but I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy, Leah. I know you're still in love with me. You're still my wife, Leah. We deserve a second chance. You owe me a second chance. You owe yourself a second chance."
