WE HAVE AN OFFER

Ch. 244 / 312 Apr 03, 2026

For now, all he could do was wait for the memories to return, or for the truth to find him. Just as Lucas and his wife were about to leave, Gabrielle paused, turning back to Antonio with a look of quiet determination. There was something maternal affection in her gaze. “What is it, Gabi?” Her husband whispered. She turned to him and smiled with her eyes glistening wet, they were saying something to him. Mr. Lucas knew his wife quite well to understand that inaudible request. It was something he expected, not after his wife had been worrying over his well-being ever since the day they got him to the village clinic. He sighed. “Are you sure about that?” Gabrielle nodded with a smile. “Okay”. Lucas shrugged. Gabi hugged her husband and quickly went back to Antonio. “Before we go,” she began, her voice gentle but eager. “We wanted to offer you something.” Mr. Lucas nodded, stepping closer to his wife, as if to lend his support to what she was about to say. “It’s clear you don’t have anywhere to go,” she said, too straightforwardly. “And it doesn’t feel right, leaving you here on your own with no memory and no one to look after you.” Antonio listened, his brow furrowing slightly, confused. He had no idea where he belonged, but the idea of being taken in by strangers was something he hadn’t considered, though it was hard to consider much of anything with his mind so clouded. Lucas continued, “We don’t live far from here. It’s not a grand place, but it’s home. We’re not wealthy, but we get by. If you’d like, you can come stay with us until you’re fully healed, or at least until you figure out who you are and where you belong.” “We don’t have a child… we promise to be great parents this time”. Gabrielle said in a near tears tone. Her husband squeezed her shoulders softly with a soft kiss on the neck. Antonio stared at the woman confused. They don’t have a child? How can such kind people not have a child? How are children even made? “So what do you say, son?” Lucas cuts into his thoughts. “I..emmm”. The wife's hands clenched tightly in a prayer form, hoping for a positive response. The offer of kindness that felt almost surreal to Antonio. These people had already saved his life, and now they were offering him shelter, a place to recover, not just physically, but perhaps emotionally as well. Antonio hesitated, the void in his memory making it difficult to trust anyone, even those who had helped him. Yet, he couldn’t deny the sense of comfort their offer brought. The clinic, while safe, was a place of isolation from the rest of the world. Going with them would mean being in a home, with people who genuinely seemed to care about his well-being. More importantly, he can’t find his people if he stays here. “I… I don’t know what to say,” Antonio stammered, his voice filled with a mixture of gratitude and confusion. “Why would you do this for me? Take me in and be the best parents to me, I am sincerely confused. You don’t know me nor where I come from.” Gabrielle smiled softly, her brown eyes brightening with kindness. “Because it’s the right thing to do. We can’t leave you here with no one to help you. And if it were one of our children in your position, we’d hope someone would do the same for them.” Mr. Lucas added, “You know son, you don’t have to decide right now. But if you want to come with us, the offer stands. We’ll help you get back on your feet.” Antonio considered their words carefully. He didn’t know who he was or where he came from, but something these two people interested him. Also, the prospect of being cared for, of having a place to call home, even if just for a while, was more appealing than he could have imagined. “Thank you,” Antonio finally said, his voice steadying. “I think… I think I’d like that. At least until I can remember who I am. I will love to stay with you.” “Oh, I am so happy! I promise to be a good mother to you, Diego. ” Gabrielle snapped out in tears and hugged him. “Diego?” Antonio asked confused. “Sí” Gabrielle replied, “Can we name you Diego?” Antonio hesitated, then slowly he wrapped her hand around her. “Okay…” Mr. Lucas’s smile widened, seeing that reaction from him. “It’s settled, then. We’ll speak to the doctor and make arrangements. When you’re ready to leave, we’ll take you home as our son.”
