WE ARE HER FAMILY

Ch. 266 / 312 Apr 03, 2026

“Antonio is alive,” Angela’s voice cracked, and she took a shaky breath, “I… I saw him. Doris. He’s alive.” Doris’s eyes widened in shock, and she quickly covered her mouth to stifle her gasp. “Angela… are you sure it was him?” Doris whispered, her voice barely audible as she glanced nervously at Kerry and Courtney. “I’m very certain, Doris,” Angela replied, her voice cracking in-between tears. “It was him. But he’s… different. He doesn’t remember me. He doesn’t remember anything. I tried to talk to him, but he just looked at me like I was a stranger.” “Doris, I don’t know what to do,” Angela continued crying “It’s like I’ve lost him all over again, but this time it’s worse because he’s right there, but he’s not the man I knew.” Kerry, who was overwhelmed with shock, could no longer contain herself. Courtney couldn’t hold back her shock mixed with excitement. “Antonio is alive?” Courtney chuckled, “I can't believe that my cousin is alive!” Angela froze, her heart skipping a beat as she recognized their voices through the phone. “Courtney? Kerry?” she stammered, her confusion quickly turning into anger. “Doris, why is Courtney with you?” Angela asked immediately. Doris’s face turned pale, and she opened her mouth to respond, but before she could explain, Angela angrily cut her line off. “Angela…” Doris sighed. The abrupt end to the call left a heavy silence filled with tension in the room. Courtney and Kerry exchanged anxious glances, they knew that Doris would definitely take it out on them. Doris turned to Kerry, frustration and anger etched on her face. “Kerry, why did you bring Courtney here?” she demanded, her voice laced with anger. “You knew Angela never wanted to involve the Monteros in this!” “Doris, I thought we are through with……” she began, but Doris cut her off. “No, we are not through with it!” Doris snapped in frustration. “Angela has been through enough, and now you’ve just made things worse.” Courtney was feeling both guilty and confused, she tried to defend Kerry. “Doris, don't blame Kerry, like I said she did her best, please… I am not going to say anything to anyone…I can keep it a secret too.” But Doris wasn’t listening. She was too worried about Angela, her mind racing with thoughts of Angela's situation. She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Angela’s number again, desperate to reach her. The call rang out, but Angela didn’t pick up. Doris tried again, and again, but each time, the call went unanswered. “She’s not answering,” Doris muttered, anxiety creeping into her voice. “She’s ignoring me.” Kerry’s face was wretched and pale with guilt. “Doris, I’m so sorry. I never meant for this to happen." Doris shot her a frustrated look. “Sorry doesn’t change what’s done, Kerry. Angela was already dealing with so much, and now this… I’m just worried about what she might do…she's over there fighting all this alone…what if she hurt herself. Antonio couldn't recognize her…how do you think she will feel…after many years of waiting?” Kerry lowered her head in sadness. Doris was right. Angela is really in a tight situation. Courtney felt bad about the whole thing, especially Kerry's regret about letting her know. She walked to Doris and spoke softly. “Doris, please is there anything we can do? Maybe I could talk to her…” "No," Doris interrupted with irritation. “Courtney, Angela didn’t want the Monteros involved for a reason. The best thing you can do is stay out of this for now.” “I already know about Angela and Antonio asking me to stay away is not fair Doris!” Courtney snapped in annoyance while Kerry remained silent, her guilt still tormenting her. Doris ignored Courtney's statement and tried Angela’s number once more, praying she would pick up, but when the call went to voicemail yet again. "Angela, please…" she whispered to herself, hoping her friend was okay. But for now, all she could do was wait, her phone clutched tightly in her hand, praying that Angela would eventually answer. Courtney started pacing back and forth in Doris’s bakery, her mind racing with thoughts of Angela and Antonio's encounter. She couldn’t just leave things as they were. Angela definitely needs someone to talk to at a moment like this, she's determined to be that person. She turned to Doris, who was still busy trying Angela's number. “Doris,” Courtney began, "I need Angela’s address in Japan. I can’t just sit back and do nothing. She needs someone to talk to, and I have to be there for her. Also, I need to know Antonio's location…maybe I can help to see why he couldn't recognize Angela. Doris looked at Courtney, her brow married with a frown. “Courtney, I can't give you the location," she replied cautiously. “Angela didn’t want the Monteros involved, and she’s already upset. What do you think you can do to help at this point? Being involved already makes things worse.” Courtney stepped closer to Doris, her tone softening as she tried to convince Doris. “Doris, I understand why you’re hesitant. But Angela’s going through a very difficult phase right now. She just found out that Antonio is alive, but he doesn’t even recognize her. She must be feeling so lost and heartbroken. We can’t let her go through this alone. She might not want me involved, but maybe… perhaps she needs someone to be there for her, someone from Antonio's family.” Doris shook her head in disagreement. “I’m sorry, Courtney,” Doris said firmly, “but I can’t give you Angela’s address. She made it clear she didn’t want the Monteros involved, and I have to respect that.” Courtney frowned, getting frustrated. “But Doris, Angela needs someone. She’s going through so much right now, and I just want to help her." “I understand, Courtney, and I know you mean well. But I have a friend in Japan, Yuki. She’s been looking out for Angela, and I trust her to take care of things. If Angela needs help, Yuki will be there for her.” Kerry, who had been listening quietly, stepped in. "Doris, but we are her family. Don’t you think Angela might need us too?”
