Malcolm's eyes glinted at the words, and he shot a glance at Velma.
Malcolm declined, "Mrs. Remington, the Remington Group has the fashion design department as well. Isn't it better for Velma to intern at your own company?"
Velma was carried away by the love and caring meant for Lynn without appreciating them.
Malcolm could not understand the Remington family sometimes.
Lynn was still out there missing, and the Remington family just adopted Velma for the sake of marriage.
Velma's face turned dark at Malcolm's refusal.
Before Debbie could get out a word, Julian saw his chance and broke in with a smile. "Mrs. Remington, I'm afraid that it is inappropriate to make such an arrangement. Every employee of the Lowe Group made their way with their capabilities. It will only make Miss Remington suffer if she is recruited just by riding someone else's coattails."
"I can't agree with you, Mr. Munoz. Velma is the wife-to-be of the chairman; there is no way she would have a hard time in Malcolm's company." Debbie's raised his voice as if she was making sure to be heard by Marilyn and Jeannie.
At a glance, Jeannie knew what Debbie had in mind.
Jeannie picked up her bag and glanced at Velma, who had been well-protected. She withdrew her gaze disdainfully and looked at Malcolm. "It seems that Mr. Lowe has been busy. Let's meet another day. We are leaving, Arturo!"
"Hold on a moment, Ms. Harrison!" Julian quickly called out to Jeannie.
They had to have the meal together today.
Julian had no idea when the next opportunity would be if they missed this chance.
"It's alright. We can take a rain check!" Jeannie held Arturo's hand.
Arturo waved at Marilyn and Malcolm.
Jeannie turned around and left determinedly with the resounding sound of her high heels.
Malcolm's eyes were still cold. "Julian, Ms. Chapman, please take Ms. Harrison to the restaurant and order some dishes. I'll be there soon!" He said grimly.
"No problem! Let's go, Ms. Chapman!" Julian couldn't wait any longer. He would just go by himself even if Malcolm didn't plan on going.
Marilyn answered with a mumble as she looked strangely at Debbie and followed Julian to leave.
Sergio took his leave as well.
Soon, there were only three people left in the transparent and luxurious office.
Velma felt so angry that she could not breathe.
She stood uneasily behind Debbie.
"Take a seat, Mrs. Remington," Malcolm said nonchalantly.
Debbie did not hesitate to pull Velma to sit down on the leather sofa with her.
"Malcolm, that child looks familiar. What does he do? Whose child is he?" Debbie was deep in thought. She seemed to recognize the child from somewhere before, but she couldn't recall.
"He is the spokesman of our company's children's wear collection we just signed this morning. I am here to inform you, Mrs. Remington, that I will not marry Velma. If you really want to join the Lowe family, well, I am not the only son." Malcolm said indifferently while Velma was torn to pieces.
Debbie frowned as she looked at Malcolm in anger.
Debbie watched Malcolm grow up.
She wouldn't have to do this if Lynn wasn't missing.
Lynn had been a sensible and considerate girl since she was a child. If Lynn hadn't left a hole in Debbie's heart, Debbie would not have adopted Velma on impulse.
Debbie didn't adopt Velma for the marriage. Debbie was at the orphanage when she saw the child resembled Lynn and impulsively brought Velma back.
Biting her lower lip, Velma looked up at Malcolm as if she had been greatly wronged. She got up the courage to ask, "Malcolm, is it because I am the adopted daughter of the Remington family that you don't want to marry me?" Velma would not give up without getting an answer today.
Malcolm narrowed his eyes and raised his chin with a commanding presence. "It's not about who you are or whether you are adopted or not. It's just that love cannot be forced."
Despite his usual cold and distant manner, Malcolm spoke more words than he usually did so that he could have his life in peace in the future.
Debbie exhaled deeply and said earnestly, "Malcolm, I see what you are saying, but I hope you can give it a second thought about letting Velma work here as an intern. Your company is full of talents with more challenges. People can only grow with competition."
"Mom!" Velma looked like she was about to cry. How could Debbie just let it go?
Velma loved Malcolm, and she would not marry anyone but him.
Debbie did not look at Velma. She knew well about Malcolm's temper. No one could force him to do something he didn't want to do.
Malcolm stayed silent. A woman like Velma would never keep her nose clean, and Malcolm wouldn't want her to mess up his company.
"Mrs. Remington, I should be going now." Malcolm had finished what he needed to say.
Malcolm got up, and the sunlight that came in through the window shone on him, gliding his tall figure with the dazzling beam.
Velma looked at Malcolm with infatuation. This man was the Prince Charming of Velma and countless other girls.
Malcolm was the sweet dream of Velma that she was desperate for, but he just didn't feel the same way about her.
In Velma's eyes, Malcolm was the brightest star.
Velma stared at Malcolm's back until he disappeared from her sight. She looked at Debbie with tears. "Mom, let's not push Malcolm too hard. Don't worry. I will get in the Lowe Group on my own and earn the recognition from Malcolm."
Debbie, on the other hand, had a solemn expression on her face as she smiled at Velma awkwardly. "Velma, I know that you like Malcolm, but he has been stubborn since he was young. You may try one more time, and if you fail, mom will find you a good man."
Velma cried and shook her head pitifully. And then she smiled confidently at Debbie. "Mom, I will not give up on Malcolm. He will love me back eventually if I work harder.
"I wonder if I could make Marilyn go away. Did you see how she flirts with Malcolm? She is trying to seduce him for sure."
It was the woman's intuition that made Velma naturally sensitive.
She could feel that Malcolm was impressed by Marilyn.
Maybe it was true when people said that the best things were what we could never get.
Instead of staying at home and letting her imagination run wild, Velma might as well come here to work and stay at Malcolm's side.
Debbie was not happy with what Velma had said.
"Velma, if you want to be recognized by Malcolm, you have to prove yourself and make him impressed by your capability. But driving people away?" she said solemnly.
"You may successfully let her out of your sight, but Malcolm would still have feelings for her. Mom doesn't like such means. Don't ever say things like that again.
