Chapter 39

Ch. 39 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

Marilyn smiled indifferently, a trace of confusion flashed through her eyes. Her tone was neither fast nor slow. "Madam, have you recognized the wrong person?"

Malcolm was surprised to hear that, but his face remained calm, while the corners of his mouth curled into a meaningful smile.

Margie and Sandra choked and looked at Marilyn in disbelief.

Sandra looked at Marilyn in anger and mocked, "Marilyn, you're an ingrate! You've been relying on the Chambers family for more than ten years and left home for seven years. Now you're back, but you are even reluctant to admit we are your mother and sister? How hard-hearted you are!"

Sandra's angry face was extremely ugly. The corners of her eyes and her eyebrows slanted, and the wrinkles on her forehead could be seen clearly.

Marilyn's eyes were as clear as water. She looked at Sandra with a generous and calm smile. After a long time, Marilyn curled her lips into a smile. "Ms. Chambers, right?"

Sandra was stunned and looked at Marilyn suspiciously. Marilyn always acted like a yes-man to please them. She had never been so calm and collected in front of them.

Under Marilyn's calm smile, Sandra couldn't help but give a slight nod.

Margie also looked at Marilyn suspiciously.

This face was indeed Marilyn's, but the woman in front was even more beautiful and elegant than Marilyn.

If the woman were not Marilyn, how could she be? How could there be such a similar person with Marilyn in the world?

The smile on Marilyn's face gradually widened, and her clear eyes were covered with a layer of coldness. "I heard that the Chambers family is also rich and noble, but ladies, you don't seem to be brought up by this family. My name is Marilyn Chapman. I'm from the Chapman family, not from your Chambers family. Ms. Chambers, you don't even know who I am and you barked so loudly at me, isn't that rude?"

"You... Who do you think you are? How dare you preach to me?" Sandra blushed at Marilyn's words. No one had ever insulted Sandra like this. Marilyn was the first person who dared to say that to Sandra.

Marilyn had a smile in her eyes. Her voice was light and her smile was calm. Her face was full of confidence. "I don't dare to show off in front of you. I just learned a lot from you, Ms. Chambers. I finally know what the demeanor of a noble lady from a rich and powerful family is like."

Since the last time she saw Sandra and Margie, Marilyn knew that she would see them again.

If she did not grow stronger, how would she take revenge and find her biological parents?

Ever since Marilyn gave birth to her children, she had become stronger day by day. From timidity to her calmness, she had been improving herself and growing mature.

It was only now that Marilyn saw Sandra that Marilyn realized how much she hated herself seven years ago. To integrate into the Chambers family, she had abandoned her real self and kept doing things that Sandra and Margie wanted her to do.

Marilyn had been so timid.

Now Marilyn thought about it. Why should she copy other people's lives and change herself into another person?

How silly she was back then!

"You bastard..."

"Ms. Chambers, you got the wrong person, and you are still barking at her. Aren't you going too far? This is the design director of the Lowe Group's headquarters, Marilyn Chapman, not Marilyn Chambers!" Malcolm's tone was neither warm nor cold, making others not dare to approach him.

As soon as Malcolm spoke, Sandra changed her expression to a soft and gentle one.

When she came back to her senses, Sandra realized that Malcolm was speaking up for Marilyn. Sandra could not believe it. "Mr. Lowe, is she really not Marilyn Chambers? Are you sure that she didn't change her name and used a false identity to steal the confidential document about the Lowe Group?"

Sandra only wanted to tear apart Marilyn's disguise and spoke out without thinking.

Margie looked at Sandra and frowned. "Why did Sandy have such a big mouth?

Marilyn has lived with the Chambers family for more than ten years. According to the face, she is indeed Marilyn.

But..."

The smile in Malcolm's eyes grew colder, and he then gave a chilling smile. "It seems that the Chambers Enterprise wants to get something from my Lowe Group. I'll check it out and see if you placed any spies in my Lowe Group."

His words got Margie taken aback. Margie's proud face instantly turned pale. She quickly smiled apologetically. "Mr. Lowe, you must be joking. Sandy didn't mean to say that. She is still like a kid. Mr. Lowe, please forgive her. It seems that we really recognized the wrong person. I have a daughter who takes after Ms. Chapman. My daughter has been away from home for many years. I just suddenly thought of her when I saw Ms. Chapman. I miss her too much. Ms. Chapman, please forgive us for our rudeness."

As Margie was about to finish speaking, she looked more and more sorrowful.

It seemed that she truly missed Marilyn.

But was that so?

Marilyn looked at Margie's hypocritical face and sneered. She thought, "Margie is really talented at acting. It was a pity for her not to be an actress.

In this world, only a mean person like Margie can exchange her adopted daughter for her own interests."

Marilyn smiled calmly, but the eyes in her eyes were cold to the extreme. Her voice was neither fast nor slow, and she looked way decent. "Mrs. Chambers, please don't say that. I have always been a generous person. I won't lower myself to the same level as people like you. I hope that the two of you won't make such a mistake again."

"Ms. Chapman, we won't." Margie forced a smile, and darkness and hatred filled her eyes.

"Mr. Lowe, we gotta go." Marilyn didn't want to see these two hypocritical faces again for the rest of her life.

"OK!" Malcolm nodded and walked into the restaurant with Marilyn without even looking at Sandra and Margie.

Malcolm stood beside Marilyn. His tall and straight figure gave Marilyn a sense of security.

Sandra couldn't hold back her anger anymore. Her chest heaved violently and her breathing accelerated. Sandra looked at Margie and snapped, "Mom, she is Marilyn. We didn't recognize the wrong person! Why didn't you expose her? She is with Malcolm, and it seems that she is going to have dinner with him. I have tried all the tricks, but I can't see Malcolm even once. If I can marry him, our Chambers family will become the most powerful one in Fielddell."

Margie glared at Sandra coldly. Margie also couldn't hold back her rage. "Expose her? How? Malcolm spoke up for her and said that she was Marilyn Chapman, not Marilyn Chambers. What else can I do?"

"Mom? Doesn't she have a birthmark or something to prove her identity?" Sandra refused to give up. She swore to expose Marilyn.

How could Sandra allow a woman who was prettier than her to exist?

"I didn't even bother to look at her since she was a girl. How could I remember if she had a birthmark?" Marilyn had always been a ticking time bomb in Margie's heart.

Margie was afraid that one day, she would be imprisoned after Marilyn remembered what had happened many years ago.

Margie, on the other hand, had a scruple of Malcolm.

As soon as she thought of this, Margie quickly glared at Sandra. "Sandy, the business world is also a battlefield. Malcolm is such a capable businessman. How can you speak in front of him without even thinking? Do you want our Chambers family's hard-won wealth to go to waste?"
