Destined by One Night: The CEO's Pursuit

Chapter 58

Ch. 58 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

Roland smiled elegantly. There was no trace of worry on Marilyn's face. He said, "Lynn, it seems you really want me to get jailed."

"What nonsense are you talking about? I'm not that vicious," Marilyn retorted with a long face. Her lip that had been lightly bitten by her became even rosier.

As Roland looked at her, the look in his eyes grew more intense.

But when Roland thought that Marilyn was going to attend the banquet with Malcolm the next evening, he felt annoyed.

What was Malcolm up to?

As far as Roland knew, Marilyn didn't have to attend a banquet like that.

Moreover, the design drafts of Marilyn's autumn products had already passed.

Roland couldn't help but doubt Malcolm's intentions.

"Little girl, it seems at least you still have a conscience. Don't worry. I won't be stopped by the traffic police for a glass of beer." Roland smiled at Marilyn.

At the thought that Marilyn was worried about him, Roland was very happy.

Marilyn rolled her eyes at him and smiled, "We've known each other for seven years. You know very well whether I'm heartless or not."

"I do," Roland smiled. It was because he knew well what kind of person Marilyn was that Roland was head over heels in love with her.

"That's good. Go home and rest after the late supper. Jeannie said that you have been very busy after coming to Fielddell." Marilyn looked at Roland with concern, not wanting him to be too tired.

Roland was just escorting Marilyn back. He should go back now. But now when Marilyn decided to stay, Roland was staying too. This gave Marilyn a weird feeling.

"Got it. I'll listen to you." When Roland heard her concerned words, he winked at Marilyn mischievously.

Roland suddenly joked, "Lynn, we look like a couple, right?"

He looked at Marilyn gently.

Marilyn was slightly startled by Roland's question. But the look in his eyes told her that Roland wasn't joking at all.

Marilyn looked at him blankly. Roland was the last person she wanted to hurt.

There was no emotion in Marilyn's eyes. She just stared at Roland in a daze, not knowing what to say.

Roland's heart sank in disappointment.

Marilyn had never loved him. To her, Roland was family and a good friend. That was all.

Roland suddenly laughed.

His laughter came to an abrupt end. Roland looked at Marilyn with a smile and said, "Lynn, I was just joking. You didn't take it seriously, right?"

Then, Roland lowered his head, and the smile on his face that had not completely disappeared gradually became unbearably bitter.

He was not joking. He was serious.

But the woman in front of Roland would not understand.

Marilyn suddenly breathed a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, Roland was joking. If he was serious, Marilyn wouldn't know what to do.

Roland was one of the most wonderful men in the world.

Rich, handsome, and warm-hearted, Roland was many women's Prince Charming.

Marilyn had three children. She didn't want to waste Roland's time.

Marilyn took out a blue candy from her purse, removed the packaging, and handed the candy to Roland.

When Roland saw the light yellow candy between her slender and fair fingers, he looked up at Marilyn, smiled, and opened his mouth to eat the candy.

The candy Marilyn fed him must be sweet.

However, the next moment, Roland's face twisted.

The unbearable sour taste made Roland's ears buzz.

Roland had never eaten anything so sour in his entire life.

Marilyn could not help but laugh when she saw the expression on Roland's face.

This sour taste was not something that everyone could endure.

Roland spat out the candy, grabbed the beer on the table, and took a big gulp. The sour taste in his mouth finally lessened a lot.

Roland raised his eyes and looked like he was about to cry. He frowned and stared at Marilyn with a painful look. "Lynn, are you still human? How can you stand such a sour thing? You even carry it on you around."

Marilyn smiled brightly and said mischievously, "You joked around with me. This is the least severe punishment for you. This is a lemon-flavored super sour candy. I usually eat it when I work overtime."

When Roland heard her first sentence, he felt sad, but when he heard Marilyn's second sentence, his heart instantly ached.

He knew that Marilyn had been working very hard for the past seven years. In just a few years, she had been promoted to design director, and she had earned it.

Roland looked at Marilyn and suddenly said in a distressed voice, "Silly, such a sour thing is not good for the stomach. Don't eat it again. If you are sleepy, you can call me. I will burn the midnight oil with you."

Roland met Marilyn. After she came out of her sorrow, she had always been diligent and hardworking, with a strong ambition and high comprehension.

Over the past few years, the two of them had been learning from each other and spent a lot of time together, allowing Roland to understand her thoroughly.

Marilyn raised her eyebrows and looked at Roland. Her soft hair danced in the night breeze. Her delicate facial features were beautiful and lively.

Marilyn's smile was graceful and gentle. "Roland, you're very busy every day. I'm used to burning the midnight oil, and once I eat this lemon-flavored candy, I immediately become spirited. My inspiration also improves."

"I really don't know what to do with you." Roland took a deep breath and looked at her, deeply concerned.

"I wonder when you'll change your stubborn personality. You say nothing when you're tired, and you endure it when wronged. Lynn, your life is too hard." Roland spoke from the bottom of his heart. Marilyn really didn't have it easy.

Roland and his sister felt sorry for Marilyn.

Marilyn smiled gratefully. Roland was a good friend.

"Roland, you don't have to worry about me. I'm fine. Raising a child is the most strenuous. However, Dominic, Arturo, and Laverne have been good. Also, Mother has taken good care of us. And I have you and Jeannie. Right now, I'm living the happiest life."

The past few years were the happiest years of Marilyn's life.

When Roland heard this, he smiled helplessly, but his heart ached a little.

Did Marilyn think he didn't know her?

The bitterness in her heart, the hatred that arose after Marilyn had been set up, and the pain she had suffered in the Chambers family, were all suppressed.

Roland had seen her cry alone in the night several times, but he always watched from a distance and stayed silently with her.

Roland would only leave after Marilyn was tired from crying and went back to sleep.

Roland was about to speak when the waiter brought over the dishes they had ordered, so Roland held back the words he had been about to say.

"Lynn, eat. They taste delicious when they're warm." Roland pushed the seafood porridge to Marilyn.

"Okay, Roland, you have some too," Marilyn smiled.
