Destined by One Night: The CEO's Pursuit

Chapter 59

Ch. 59 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

Marilyn glanced at the barbecue stall. It was very crowded at night.

Five or six people sat at the same table, drinking and chatting. The stall was quite kicking.

Marilyn and Roland had always liked bustling places downtown and did not like to go to those high-class places to eat.

Jeannie often despised the two of them, saying that they did not know how to live a life. Thus, Jeannie would take them to some high-class restaurants for a big meal.

Roland always complained that he was not full, so he had an excuse to bum a meal off Marilyn's mother at Marilyn's place.

Roland picked up the beer on the table and said with a smile, "Lynn, come, let's have a drink."

"Alright!" Marilyn also raised the beer. The two touched the cans and drank a mouthful of beer.

Marilyn couldn't drink too much. Even beer felt strong to her.

Roland also knew that. Thus, as long as the weather was not cold, he would give Marilyn cold beer. The taste of cold beer was slightly better.

"It tastes good!" The ice-cold taste in Marilyn's mouth, coupled with the taste of the meat, gave her an extreme shock, making her feel very satisfied.

Roland looked at Marilyn and smiled brightly. The brilliant light shone on his handsome face, making his face even gentler and softer.

"Lynn, the food here is good. If we have time in the future, we shall come here to eat. This place is not far from your home."

"Alright! We'll do as you say. We're both foodies, and we also have another little foodie, Laverne. If she knows about the tasty food here, she'll have to pester you all day to come out and eat." Marilyn smiled. She missed her daughter.

"Sure, as long as Laverne wants to eat here, I'll bring her here." Roland had never said no to the three children.

Roland was quite close with the three little ones.

"You're spoiling them," Marilyn complained slightly.

The two chatted as they ate. They sat until midnight, and only the two of them were left at the barbecue stall.

Marilyn was a little sleepy and was about to leave. She picked up the tea beside her and took a sip to reduce the salty taste in her mouth.

"Jacob, don't leave me behind. I love you."

Suddenly, a heart-wrenching sound came from the street.

Marilyn and Roland looked back and saw two people not far from them.

A woman in gray casual clothes, sweet and lovely, with shoulder-length hair dyed with flax color, and a pair of big eyes, looked at a handsome man in a suit. There were tears in the woman's eyes.

The man was dressed in a well-tailored suit, completely revealing his perfect figure. His handsome face looked cold. He looked coldly and arrogantly at the weeping woman in front of him.

"Denise, let's break up. My mother doesn't allow me to marry you!" The man's voice was very ruthless, and every word he said could make people hurt.

"No, Jacob, I'm already pregnant with your child. Can't you fight for us against Mrs. Remington? For the sake of me and our baby!" The woman cried and begged, her hands tightly holding Jacob Remington's arm.

When Marilyn heard this, she felt a sting in her heart.

The woman must have a hard choice to make since she was expecting a baby before she could handle her relationship.

Her heart ached when Marilyn thought of the innocent child.

Back then, Marilyn faced such a difficult situation, but no matter how hard it was, Marilyn was convinced that the baby was innocent after all.

Thus, Marilyn resolutely decided to give birth to the baby.

When Jacob heard that, he couldn't bear it and asked with disbelief and excitement, "Denise, you said that you are pregnant with my child? Is it true? When did you find out?"

"Jacob, last time you came to me and told me about your sister. Later, you got wasted. That was when I got the baby." The woman said while weeping, not caring about the people coming and going on the street. All she wanted was to keep the man in front of her.

"Denise..."

"Jacob, shut up. You were drunk and didn't remember anything. She said she was pregnant with your child and you are buying it?" Suddenly, a lady in luxurious clothes walked over from afar.

Marilyn looked over, and her pupils contracted violently. The lady in front of her, who was wearing a peach-red suit and luxurious jewelry, happened to be Debbie.

"Mom, why are you here?" When Jacob saw his mother, his face darkened. He looked at his mother in shock.

Jacob couldn't believe that Debbie was stalking him.

Ever since Debbie found out that Denise was Jacob's girlfriend, Debbie had been tracking Jacob's whereabouts every day.

Denise's family was not well off. Her family opened a barbecue stall there to make a living.

Jacob knew that his mother would know about his relationship with Denise sooner or later. He was afraid that his mother would harm Denise, so he came over tonight to break up with Denise.

"Of course, I am here. If I weren't here, you would be fooled by this woman." Debbie glared at her son with a stern expression.

"No, Mrs. Remington, I wasn't fooling Jacob. I AM pregnant with Jacob's child." Denise looked at Debbie with her watery eyes full of determination.

Debbie looked at Denise with contempt. Debbie's eyes were very cold. She looked down on Denise and sneered sarcastically, "My son was drunk, so you tried to blackmail him? Let me tell you something. The Remington family is out of your league. A Warren girl doesn't deserve my son. Here is a check, 150,000 dollars. Whether your baby is Jacob's or not, the money is for its nourishment."

After saying that, Debbie threw the check at Denise's feet with a disdainful look.

Denise listened to Debbie's words and was instantly stiffened. Denise looked at Debbie in a daze. Tears flowed down silently from Denise's face. She looked hopeless.

"Mom, you can't do this. Denise is already pregnant with my child. I want to marry Denise." This was the first time Jacob had ever fought against his mother.

"Shut up!" Debbie glared fiercely at her son, her face full of disappointment.

"Denise." Suddenly, a plump woman rushed out of the barbecue stall.

The woman seemed to have just come out of the kitchen. She was still wearing an apron and there were some oil stains on it.

She was the mother of Denise, Gladys Capra.

"Denise, are you crazy? Why are you being so stupid? You are making a fool of yourself in public." Gladys held Denise in her arms and looked down at the check at Denise's feet.

Gladys bent down and picked it up. Then, she threw it at Debbie, who was standing at the side. Gladys's face was chubby yet delicate. She looked at Debbie angrily. "Take your stinky money and get lost. Who wants your money? No matter how poor my family is, we can afford to raise a grandson. We don't need you to pity us."

"Since you don't want the money, then take good care of your daughter in the future. If you continue to pester my son, you will lose your stall." Debbie threatened Gladys coldly.

Gladys froze a bit and a trace of fear appeared in her eyes. The barbecue stall was the only way to support the Warren family.

Gladys also had a son who was in university and she supported him with the money earned from the barbecue stall.

"Mom, that's too much!" Jacob looked at his mother and roared.
