Chapter 213

Ch. 213 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

Malcolm looked at Marilyn quietly. His eyes dimmed with a trace of disappointment and pain.

Marilyn could see the pain in his eyes and she felt guilty.

The atmosphere in the elevator was so subdued.

Marilyn could hardly breathe.

She looked up at Malcolm and said, "Malcolm. I just want to tell you the truth. I don't want you to waste your time on me." Marilyn sounded gentler, not as cold as she was just now.

Marilyn thought that they were just friends. She didn't expect that Malcolm would like her.

She was very surprised when Malcolm told her that.

Malcolm blamed himself in his heart for being so impatient.

Marilyn had just come back to him, but Malcolm couldn't help rushing in.

He smiled and said in a low voice, "Lynn, I was joking."

Marilyn's eyes widened.

"Malcolm, this isn't the kind of joke you can make!" Marilyn complained.

She glared at Malcolm but felt so relieved.

Marilyn was glad that Malcolm was just joking. If it were true, Marilyn wouldn't know how to handle it.

But she suddenly realized that she was thinking too highly of herself.

Marilyn thought that it would be ridiculous if Malcolm, who was rich and powerful, liked her.

She smiled a self-mocking smile.

Malcolm was staring at her all the time. When he saw her sigh in relief, his eyes dimmed again. But he tried to look normal.

But his heart was aching.

Malcolm thought, 'Marilyn, what should I do to bring you back to me?'

He couldn't forget the warmth she brought to him.

No one could give him what Marilyn could give.

"Malcolm, you shouldn't joke like that ever." Marilyn's eyes were clear, with a hint of a smile.

She could be his friend if Malcolm didn't fall in love with her.

Malcolm was still looking at Marilyn. His eyes were so dark. He wanted to tell Marilyn that he was serious and he really loved her.

It was never a joke.

He cared about her.

Therefore, Malcolm would not allow anyone to hurt Marilyn.

He had kept an eye on Velma, who took away what Marilyn should have.

Malcolm had never been so serious when he said that he would never let her go.

"Alright!" he replied in a soft voice.

He hid the disappointment and pain in his eyes and forced a smile.

But he was still holding Marilyn's hand.

Marilyn held up their hands and waved a bit.

Malcolm looked at her peacefully and had no intention of letting her go.

"What? Are you still afraid that I will fall?" Marilyn joked.

It came to Malcolm suddenly that he could get along with her as long as he didn't cross the line.

Then he smiled an understanding smile.

He had already had a plan.

Malcolm looked down at Marilyn and said, "Lynn, you know what. I have been waiting for someone I love so much."

This time, Malcolm wanted to try a long-term plan.

Marilyn nodded.

Malcolm looked peaceful and added, "Lynn, have I told you before that you two look alike?"

Marilyn tried to recall it, but she couldn't remember it. She shook her head, looking at Malcolm seriously.

Malcolm hid his excitement and continued, "Lynn, she looks so much like you!"

Marilyn was confused.

"Really!" she said. But she was suspicious about it.

Marilyn knew that Malcolm was sophisticated. She was afraid that she would fall for it.

Malcolm added, "Lynn, I am serious."

Marilyn nodded and said, "That's true. You are indeed serious about your work. But I don't know about your life and relationship." After all, Marilyn didn't know Malcolm that much. In fact, she felt that she knew little about Malcolm.

"Lynn, I am very serious about my life and my job," Malcolm said. It was true. He was trying hard to live every day.

"So?" Marilyn asked as she looked at Malcolm. She didn't know why he brought it out.

She knew one thing about Malcolm for sure. It was that he wouldn't do things without getting something in return.

"My point is that I miss her so much!" Malcolm said in his deep voice. It sounded so real.

Hearing this, Marilyn felt sorry.

"Then why don't you go to find her?" Marilyn asked without a second thought.

Malcolm pursed his lips bitterly. He looked in pain. He spent some time calming down, but he was so down.

"She forgets me," Malcolm said. Then he looked at Marilyn peacefully.

"She forgets you?" Marilyn looked at Malcolm in surprise.

She was bewildered by the forgetting part.

Malcolm nodded, his eyes deep and dark. It was hard for him to admit that Marilyn had really forgotten him.

"Then where is she?" Marilyn asked curiously.

She was curious who this lucky girl was, who could win Malcolm's heart.

Malcolm looked at her without speaking.

Marilyn regretted asking it when Malcolm remained silent again.

But Marilyn didn't like it when someone didn't finish his story.

Malcolm thought that it was time to speak, so he said, "Lynn, she is near to me. But she can't remember me no matter what I do. I really miss her!" Then he lowered his head sadly.

Malcolm found something weird, too. When he was with Terence, Julian, and Sergio, he could never be so mushy. But when he was in front of Marilyn, he could tell her what he was thinking about without hesitation.

And he wouldn't feel any awkwardness.

It pained Marilyn to see Malcolm like that.

This was the second time she saw Malcolm in such pain.

"Malcolm, please don't. Maybe she will remember you one day," Marilyn comforted him. But she was more curious about why the girl forgot Malcolm.

"I want her to remember me and come back to me," Malcolm said sincerely.

Marilyn could sense that every time he mentioned that girl, Malcolm looked so soft and vulnerable. That was nothing like the usual cold Malcolm.

Marilyn didn't know how deep one's love should be to change a cold person into such a gentle one.

"Lynn," Malcolm called Marilyn.

"I am here," Marilyn said as she looked at Malcolm.

"Can you be my girlfriend for two days? We can do things like couples usually do, like eating and shopping. It will help ease my pain. I might feel better when I am alone in the middle of the night." Malcolm looked at Marilyn with expectation.

Marilyn was stunned by his proposal.

Marilyn found it so ridiculous that she couldn't accept it.

Malcolm realized that they were arriving on the first floor. Then a flicker of light flashed in his eyes.
