Destined by One Night: The CEO's Pursuit

Chapter 231

Ch. 231 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

"Roland, Roland..." Marilyn shouted anxiously. But Roland had hung up.

Marilyn's face instantly paled. She never wanted to hurt Roland.

Never!

She did not expect that today's news would hurt him so much. She had always thought that Roland was a mature man, who had been clear about their relationship.

But...

Marilyn's heart was filled with bitterness. The complicated feeling made her tremble.

She picked up the cold water on the table and took a few sips to wake herself up.

Malcolm answered the phone and came back.

He had a faint smile on the corner of his mouth. Dominic had called to ask about Marilyn. This kid had always been worried about Marilyn!

When Marilyn saw Malcolm return, she restrained her emotions.

The Malcolm she saw in her eyes was different from the Malcolm in the eyes of others.

So Marilyn wanted to shake off everything and enjoy the feeling of having a boyfriend!

She had a good time today.

People lived for themselves. Marilyn just wanted to live for herself for one day. She didn't expect so many things to happen.

Malcolm sat opposite Marilyn and looked at her pale face, asking, "Lynn, I suppose you are tired after such a long day?"

Marilyn nodded slightly without saying anything. She was physically tired, and mentally the same.

"Lynn, let's go back to the hotel after dinner."

"Okay!" Marilyn nodded and said, "My flight is at ten tomorrow morning."

Malcolm also nodded slightly, "Lynn, mine is also at ten o'clock. Let's go back together!"

"Alright!" Marilyn suddenly realized that Malcolm hadn't come here for business but for her.

She had a lot of doubts to investigate when she went back.

The dishes were quickly served. They chatted while eating!

Marilyn hid her emotions very well while talking to Malcolm.

Seeing that Marilyn was not affected by what happened today, Malcolm felt much more at ease.

"Lynn, you like this fish. Have a try." Malcolm said as he placed the tenderest fish into Marilyn's plate.

Marilyn looked up at him and smiled. "Malcolm, thank you. Don't worry about me. I can help myself. I'm not a child!"

Malcolm wanted to laugh at her serious look.

"Lynn, in my eyes, you are a little girl. Just eat. Is there anything else you would like? We can order more!"

Hearing this, Marilyn rolled her eyes, "Malcolm, there are already too many dishes for us two."

Malcolm was about to speak yet suddenly, Marilyn's phone rang again.

Marilyn put down her chopsticks and checked her phone. It was Elvira calling.

Her heart was slightly heavy. Elvira must be worried about what happened to her today.

"Hello! Mom!"

"Lynn, are you alright?"

"It's okay, Mom. I'm having dinner. Have you and Dad had it?"

"Lynn, I saw the news today. I am worried about you."

Marilyn smiled warmly. "Mom, I'm fine. The news does me no harm. Don't worry. Enjoy your time with Dad."

"Alright, Lynn, thank you. Take care!"

Marilyn was slightly puzzled. Why would her mother say such words to her?

"Mom..."

"Lynn, listen to me. You must be more careful at work. At worst, just quit the job. You can open a shop by yourself. I'm sure you'll run it very well. I don't want you to be hurt!"

Hearing so, Marilyn smiled, "Mom, don't worry about me. I am having dinner with Mr. Lowe now. If I am hurt, how can I have dinner calmly with him now?

"So, Mom, don't worry. Let people say whatever they want to say. I don't care."

Marilyn did not deny that she and Malcolm held hands because it happened.

She wanted to indulge herself this time. Just this once!

"Alright! Lynn, your father, and I will be back in three days. Be sure to take care of yourself." Elvira reminded Marilyn worriedly.

"Mom, I will. So don't worry. You and Dad should enjoy your honeymoon. Don't get disturbed by these trivial things."

Elvira was too sensitive about Marilyn's well-being. Marilyn didn't know what to do about that.

"Alright! Then enjoy your dinner. I'm off, bye!"

"Okay, goodbye!" Marilyn hung up the phone, feeling less exhausted.

"Lynn, you and your mother get along well!" Malcolm looked at her warmly.

"Yup!" Marilyn nodded slightly, then lowered her head to eat.

Malcolm glanced at her. Seeing that she was avoiding this topic, he didn't mention it more.

After the two of them finished eating, Malcolm drove back to the hotel with Marilyn.

It was around nine.

Malcolm knew that Marilyn was very tired, so he didn't pester her any longer.

Being able to take care of her all day long was already enough for Malcolm.

"Lynn, good night!" Malcolm stood at the door with a brilliant smile.

Marilyn smiled back. "Malcolm, good night." After tonight, they would no longer be lovers.

Malcolm was about to turn around and enter his room when Marilyn suddenly called out to him.

"Malcolm."

Malcolm turned back and stared at her quietly. He didn't want to leave her yet, but seeing her exhausted face, he endured all the reluctance in his heart and forced himself to return to his room.

Malcolm became excited again.

Marilyn smiled and said, "Malcolm, thank you for today! I had a good time!" Although something unexpected happened, she had a good day.

As for other things, she now had a direction to investigate.

Malcolm blinked at her, his slightly raised lips carrying a gentle smile. "Lynn, your happiness is vital to me!" He thought, 'With me, you will be happy every day!'

He didn't say it.

By the time Malcolm brought her home, he still had a lot to say to her.

"Thanks!" Marilyn looked at Malcolm with a gentle smile, turned around, and entered her room.

Malcolm smiled and the door was closed. Then, he opened the room of his room and walked in.

Marilyn stopped smiling too after returning to her room. She took the gentle smile as a farewell.

Marilyn changed her shoes and went to the bathroom with her pajamas in her hands.

Half an hour later, she dried her hair and came out. Suddenly she heard a notification. She got a message.
