Marilyn did not probe into it instantly. She still sat there quietly, waiting for him to talk about it when he calmed down.
At this moment, she did not even bear the sight of his distressed face.
She was afraid that such a sight would haunt her forever.
This memory would torture her every time she recalled it in the future.
What Malcolm needed now was a quiet listener.
While Marilyn was trying to relate to him, Malcolm, who was suppressing his pain, slowly said, "The rain that night was so heavy that it almost blurred my eyes, but I was overwhelmed by pain and just wanted to vent all the bad feelings."
"I desperately ran forward, with Lynn at my heels."
"When I was exhausted and stopped, I suddenly remembered that Lynn was still behind me. I quickly backtracked for her, but I couldn't find her. It's been almost nineteen years, and I have never seen her again..."
Malcolm talked a lot about it.
Marilyn no longer asked anything about it.
When Malcolm finished speaking, Marilyn looked up at him in a stiff way but was stunned when her eyes were fixed on his handsome face.
Unknowingly, tears rolled down her face.
Malcolm also shed tears which were even more translucent against his white skin.
He seemed so vulnerable, just like a fragile doll. It was as if even a gentle touch would make him collapse.
Malcolm looked at the tears on her face and felt an overwhelming pain!
"Lynn," he called softly in a voice full of longing for her.
He tilted slightly aside to hug her tightly, burying his head in her shoulder with his eyes closed and trying to feel the sweetness!
Marilyn was still slightly stunned in his arms, recalling his words which made her overwhelmed by pain.
She wondered why she could relate to him so much as he described his feelings.
She did not expect such a distant and ruthless president to have such a terrible story and such deep love for a girl.
The several years they spent together had been such an unforgettable memory for him that he was willing to spend the rest of his life waiting for that girl.
In this era of rapid development, many people only valued benefits rather than true love.
But such sincerity and true love existed in Malcolm!
She blinked her eyes slightly as her tears rolled down her face slowly!
She closed her eyes and suppressed all her feelings. She opened her mouth and thought for a long time before saying, "Malcolm, you should have nothing to regret since you've tried your best to be nice to her when you were with her. What matters most for anyone is to have a clear conscience."
"Carolyn's disappearance is not your fault."
"You don't have to complain that the fate is bad for you. After all, you have the right to choose. Let go of the past. Perhaps if you are lucky, one day, Lynn will appear in front of you."
"At that time, she might look at you and say with a smile, 'Malcolm, I'm back!'"
When Marilyn finished speaking, she was instantly overwhelmed by the sorrow.
She didn't know why she felt so much pain.
She also didn't know why her heart ached so much.
Malcolm trembled slightly as he hugged her and heard what she said in the end.
It touched him so much to release all his sorrow at this moment.
He seemed to have been waiting for such words.
That beautiful girl stood in front of him and smiled sweetly, saying, "Malcolm, I'm back."
Nothing could make him happier except this sentence!
"Lynn, thank you for coming back. Thank you!" Malcolm's voice was choked with obsession.
Marilyn was slightly stunned, knowing that he must have mistaken her for Carolyn.
But a positive attitude was required to deal with all the hardships in life!
So she was afraid that he would collapse if she told him the reality.
After thinking for a while, Marilyn felt that Malcolm must be lost in extreme pain.
So she quietly stayed in his arms, without saying anything!
She wanted to leave such a poor man alone in his world by keeping quiet.
As time passed by, the strong wind at night woke Malcolm up at some point.
Marilyn was a little sleepy in his arms.
She felt quite warm in his arms, probably because she was too tired after the shopping today!
That was why she felt sleepy. Marilyn tried to make an excuse, but after thinking about it, she thought it was because it was his warm embrace that made her feel sleepy.
Malcolm smiled gently and slowly let go of her to look at her sleepy eyes lovingly.
He had to say she was a perfect listener!
He thought, 'Marilyn, I have told you everything about our childhood. One day, when you suddenly recall me, remember that I am still waiting for you to be back with me!'
"Lynn, are you sleepy?" His distant voice returned.
"Yes, I am!" Marilyn nodded in a daze.
"Lynn, let me carry you back!"
Hearing Malcolm's words, Marilyn was instantly woken up.
She looked at him and quickly shook her head. "No, Malcolm. I can walk! It's a long way and let's walk back slowly!"
As she spoke, she slowly stood up.
Malcolm still held her hand, slowly walking back.
Malcolm glanced around and found none left on the beach.
Only the two of them remained!
The moonlight lengthened their shadows. As they held hands, they left endless sweetness behind them.
Marilyn asked, "Malcolm, do you feel better after pouring out your feelings?"
Malcolm smiled. "Yes! Lynn, I indeed feel much better. Thank you for being willing to listen to the story about my childhood." What he didn't say was it was also about Marilyn's childhood.
Marilyn shook her head slightly and said in a sleepy voice, "Not at all, Malcolm! But according to your description, the little girl is also in her twenties now. Are you going to wait longer?"
"Aren't you afraid that she has been married and had children?" After all, everything was possible!
Just like Marilyn, she wondered whether she was lucky to find her parents. She also wondered if they would hate it when they found she was an unmarried mother.
Thinking of this, Marilyn gave a wry smile.
After all, she didn't even know when she could see her parents.
She thought she would appreciate it if she could know if they were doing well if she couldn't live with them!
