Vanya's POV
Grace pondered for a moment, seemingly unable to believe what she had just said. She then took out her phone and dialed Theodore's number.
The call was hung up after just one ring.
Grace was stunned. She said to me, "He, he hung up on me."
I also took out my phone and called Theodore. The call was answered after just one ring.
I said in confusion, "He answered."
"What?"
Grace seemed to be ignited with anger and shouted into the phone, "Theodore! How could you not answer my call? I'm your sister!"
"I'm super angry now!"
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line, followed by Theodore's calm voice, "Finished?"
"Yeah! Finished." Grace replied.
"Give the phone to Vanya," Theodore said.
"Okay," Grace pouted and handed me the phone.
I took the phone and asked, "I heard from Grace that you're planning to get back at Alpha Cliff?"
"Retaliation is too strong a word. Just some minor pranks," Theodore said calmly.
"I've already settled things with Alpha Cliff. You don't need to worry about it."
"It's not about that," Theodore paused and said, "This is a man's game."
Excuse me?
A man's game?
As the sky grew darker, I temporarily returned to the Silver Moon Pack.
Cliff had left early. Jenny saw me and ran up happily to greet me, "Luna Vanya, how was the party today?"
Party? I glanced at Cliff, who was sitting on the sofa reading the newspaper.
So that's how he lied.
I smiled and said, "The party went smoothly."
"Actually, Alpha Cliff should have driven you back. It's not safe at night."
"No problem, he lent me his car," I said. When I left the mall today, I took the car that Cliff had driven over.
The thought of Cliff, who usually had a dedicated driver, having to take a taxi home after leaving the mall, gave me a sense of satisfaction.
"Jenny, you can go home now. We have some other matters to attend to tonight," Cliff glanced at me, and the "other matters" he mentioned suddenly took on a different connotation.
Jenny said happily, "Okay, okay, I'll pack up right away. Madam is waiting for me to clean up."
She began to gather her things.
After Jenny left, I said, "You're quite the liar. Don't you feel sorry?"
"You're not doing a bad job of playing along either," Cliff said indifferently, "I bought Melinda a house so she can live in the same block as you. That's quiet. It's perfect for recovery, and highly private."
I raised an eyebrow.
"Quite the investment," I remarked. Buying a house in that area wasn't cheap. Although it wasn't much for Cliff, buying one outright was quite a show of affection towards Melinda.
"Keep this confidential."
"You're afraid I'll see her and tell Veronica, right? Don't worry, I won't be that bored," I said, turning to go upstairs and pack my things.
The play was over. I had no intention of continuing to live in the same house with Cliff.
Cliff watched me drag my suitcase downstairs and frowned, asking, "Where are you going?"
"I have class tomorrow, I'm heading back," I said.
"What if Veronica ask...?"
"Tell her I went to the Maldives to relax," I replied. "I don't really want to see you these past few days. It's annoying, and I think you feel the same way, don't you?"
Cliff's face darkened. I flicked my hair and left.
Grace's car was already outside the Silver Moon Pack. Cliff watched from the floor-to-ceiling window as I got into the car and left.
What he thought was none of my business. I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible.
I called Grace, and in no time, I arrived at my apartment.
Grace stopped the car at the entrance to swipe her card. Just as she was about to go in, I saw Cliff's car.
Elliot was helping Melinda take the luggage out of the trunk.
Seeing Melinda, Grace immediately became agitated. "Melinda? How can she get in here?"
To live in this building, one needed to be vetted. Without a certain status, it was impossible to reside here.
At that moment, Melinda looked over at us. A hint of provocation flashed in her eyes.
I got out of the car. I hadn't told Grace about Cliff buying a house for Melinda. I didn't expect Cliff to do that so quickly.
"Luna..." Elliot, hearing the commotion, was somewhat surprised to see me.
"It's okay, Elliot, go ahead," I said, appearing unconcerned. However, Elliot was extremely nervous inside.
"Luna Vanya, you're not angry, right? We'll be neighbors now, and I'll need your help," Melinda said.
