Vanya's POV
The next day, the lawyer sent me the drafted divorce agreement.
Although Cliff and I could simply reject each other to sever our mate bond, Cliff still had the Todd Group.
Technically, we needed a formal divorce.
So in the evening, I made a special trip back to the Silver Moon Pack.
Jenny saw me return and happily greeted me, "Luna Vanya! You're finally home!"
She noticed the bruises on me and looked shocked. "Luna Vanya, what happened to you?"
"Where's Cliff?"
"Alpha Cliff..." Jenny didn't finish her sentence when Cliff walked down from upstairs.
He seemed to be recovering quickly, which was a relief given his Alpha heritage.
I walked into the living room and said to Jenny, "Jenny, I need to talk to Cliff. Could you go clean the yard?"
"Yes, Luna Vanya," Jenny replied, glancing worriedly between me and Cliff.
Cliff sat at the dining table, expressionless as he ate his dinner, never once looking at me.
I took out the divorce agreement and placed it in front of Cliff.
"This is the divorce agreement I had the lawyer draft. Sign it."
Cliff's hand holding the knife froze. He looked up at me coldly. "Divorce?"
I kept my expression calm. "Yes, divorce."
Cliff stood up and walked over to me, asking slowly, "Who gave you permission to draft a divorce agreement?"
"Since we don't like each other, why force ourselves to stay together?"
"Didn't like each other?" Cliff seemed angered, veins bulging on his forehead. "Vanya, wasn't it you who used to follow me around, begging me to marry you?"
Bringing up the past made me feel incredibly foolish. "You also said it was the past. After we became mates, our bond never strengthened. Why keep pretending?"
"Who said I..." Cliff started to argue, but I cut him off.
"I know you like Melinda. She's your true mate. I'm stepping aside willingly to make things right for you."
"Vanya!" Cliff pinned me against the wall, his eyes cold and piercing. "Step aside? Make things right? What do you take me for? Some object you can just use and discard?"
I frowned, trying to explain. "That's not what I meant."
Cliff leaned in closer, his voice tinged with anger. "Then what do you mean?"
"I..."
"Did you even discuss this divorce with me?" Cliff pressed.
I furrowed my brows deeper. "Cliff, if it's about the partnership with the Dalton family, I can assure you that even if we divorce, those projects will continue."
"Do you think I'm against the divorce just because of the partnership with the Dalton family?" Cliff's eyes were locked on mine.
I tilted my head back to meet his gaze. "Isn't that the case?"
"Of course not!" Cliff grabbed my shoulders, his eyes bloodshot. "Listen, I absolutely won't agree to the divorce! You're not leaving the Silver Moon Pack."
"Let me go!" I shook off Cliff's grip, laughing coldly. "Cliff, don't tell me you're against the divorce because you like me."
"I..." Cliff started to speak, but I cut him off again.
"I don't think I'm that charming that Alpha Cliff would look at me differently. You've embarrassed me in front of others for Melinda and targeted my friends without reason. I'm fed up with this marriage. Whether you like it or not, I'm getting a divorce."
"Vanya! Where do you get the nerve to say that?" Cliff said furiously. "You're also involved with Theodore, and your relationship is unclear. When have you ever considered my feelings?"
"Me and Theodore?" I laughed bitterly, as if hearing the biggest joke. "So that's what you think of me."
"Aren't you divorcing me because you hooked up with Theodore?" Cliff sneered. "Vanya, you're such a fickle person!"
"Shut up!" I pushed Cliff away forcefully, my eyes filled with undisguised disgust. "I'm ashamed that I ever liked you!"
Cliff didn't react much to my words of disgust, and I didn't bother to read his mind.
I turned to leave, but Cliff instinctively grabbed my arm. "Where are you going?"
"Let go of me!" I frowned tightly. Cliff was strong, and he pulled me down onto the sofa, pinning me beneath him.
Cliff's burning gaze traveled between my nose and lips, his tone laced with barely restrained anger. "Yesterday, did Theodore pin you down like this?"
"What are you talking about?!" I tried to slap Cliff, but he caught my wrist. Cliff held my wrist tightly, and it hurt a lot.
"Lying? Vanya, I risked my life to save you, and as soon as you woke up, you left without even a glance. How can you be so heartless?"
I struggled but gave up, just sneering, "You have Melinda to take care of you. Do you really need me to check on you?"
Cliff's grip on my hand loosened a bit.
I continued, "Cliff, since you like Melinda, why won't you let me go?"
Cliff gritted his teeth. "I never said I liked Melinda."
