Vania's POV
I was quietly eating breakfast when, after about half an hour, Theodore came back carrying a large shopping bag.
Derek stared at the shopping bag in Theodore's hand for a while and asked in confusion, "What... did you go for?"
Theodore placed the bag on the table and took out bananas, grapes, and apples from it, as well as milk, yogurt, and two bags of snacks.
"It's for sobering up." Theodore's voice was flat, as if he was stating something as ordinary as can be, and then he picked up a fruit knife to start peeling the apple.
Grace excitedly bumped into Derek and exclaimed, "My brother is really talented, I underestimated him!"
Vania's POV
"What's the big deal! I'll also peel the apple for you!" Derek's voice rang in my ears.
"Is the focus on peeling apples? What do you know!" Grace retorted without any politeness, and the two of them started arguing with each other privately, exchanging words back and forth.
I watched Theodore as he skillfully wielded his knife, effortlessly slicing a perfect apple and placing it in front of me, cut into small pieces.
Grace jokingly said, "Oh, after so many years of being siblings, I have never seen my brother voluntarily peel an apple for his sister. It's really envy-inducing."
"Don't worry, I am just peeling an apple for you, right?" Derek said with a cheerful smile as he peeled the apple for Grace.
Grace gave Derek a glare, as if to signal him to stop causing trouble, and Derek indeed fell silent.
I stared at the sliced apples in the plate and couldn't help but freeze.
I lost my parents at a young age, although my status was that of a young lady from the Dalton family, in reality, I was fostered by the Aldridge family since childhood.
Although they are all relatives, they are not biological parents after all. Being raised by others since childhood, there is always a longing for the warmth of family in their hearts.
No one has ever peeled an apple for me before, and no one has really cared if I am uncomfortable.
In the past, the reason I fell in love with Cliff was simply because at my father's funeral, I secretly ran out and cried. It was the late Cliff who comforted me and held my hand to go back home.
If you think about it carefully, the fact that I liked Cliff was just my wishful thinking from beginning to end.
"What are you daydreaming about? Don't you like to eat?" Theodore asked softly from the side.
I came to my senses and quickly shook my head, "I wasn't picky."
After saying that, I started eating the apples in the plate one by one with a fork.
In theory, the apples of this season are not in season, but these apples are sour and sweet, and they taste very good.
I couldn't help but ask, "Do you often buy fruits?"
"The first time," Theodore replied nonchalantly.
I sincerely said, "Your skill in picking fruits is excellent, even better than my family's chef."
Theodore just smiled slightly and didn't say much.
"Humming..." At this moment, a faint buzzing sound could be heard coming from the living room, as if it was coming from the bedroom.
Grace said, "It seems like someone's phone rang."
A few of us looked at each other in silence.
Derek said, "I didn't have the habit of putting my phone on silent."
Theodore didn't say anything, and Grace also took out her phone, saying, "Here is my phone."
It was only then that I suddenly remembered that I had hung up on Beta Elliott's call yesterday. At that time, I felt annoyed, so I just put my phone on silent.
With this in mind, I quickly pulled the chair and ran to the bedroom.
The phone in the bedroom was buzzing, and it was Beta Elliott calling. I quickly answered the phone, "Hello?"
Beta Elliott heard my voice and seemed relieved, saying, "Luna, you finally answered the phone."
"Is there something wrong?"
"Alpha Cliff looked for you all night yesterday, but later found out that you had left with Theodore. He angrily hung up the phone and didn't even go to the company today. Can you contact Alpha Cliff now and ask him to come to the company first? There are important decisions that need his attention."
"He looked for me?" I was puzzled and confused, with question marks filling my mind.
For no reason, why did Cliff come to me?
Didn't he always not care about my life and death?
I turned on my phone and indeed saw many missed calls from last night. However, by three o'clock in the morning, Cliff stopped calling.
"Luna, I felt that Alpha Cliff still cared about you. Why don't you give Alpha Cliff a call, maybe..."
"I got it, thank you, Elliott," I said, and hung up the phone. I then thought about sending a message to Cliff, but as soon as I dialed the number, it only rang once before a cold mechanical voice came from the other end: "Hello, the number you have dialed is currently in use."
I patiently messaged Cliff again: "Did you need something from me yesterday when you were drunk?" As soon as I sent the message, it showed that he had already blocked me.
I couldn't help but complain in my heart: What is this Cliff doing?
