Switch Back

Ch. 19 / 178 Feb 27, 2026

Alexander returned home, opened the computer, and found that Noah had made several video calls. He immediately called him back.

Noah answered quickly, urgently asking, "What happened today? Why did Miss Samantha say she's going to work as a chef at Chelsea Creek?"

Alexander had already prepared a response, pouting and saying, "I used to be with Mom every day. Now suddenly not seeing her, I miss her and the meals she used to cook."

Noah felt a twinge of guilt in his heart.

After all, he also missed his father!

"You live under the same roof every day. You're bound to meet. You can't hide upstairs every day," Noah replied.

Alexander nodded desperately, "Exactly, so you need to speed up and find out the truth. I can't stand facing that fake face of Suzy Miller. It makes me want to vomit."

After a brief contemplation, Noah made a bold decision, "Tomorrow morning, I'll take Miss Samantha's hair to the hospital for a DNA paternity test. You replace me at the kindergarten in the morning, and I'll go to the hospital."

Alexander thought it was a good idea.

Perfect, he missed Mom too.

"Okay, I'll trick Auntie Elle into taking me out tomorrow. Then, behind the small supermarket near the kindergarten, you find an excuse to slip away, and we'll take this opportunity to switch back our identities."

Noah nodded.

After the two brothers finished their discussion, they ended the video call.

Noah deleted the call records, opened the door, and saw a shadow flash by from the corner ahead.

He frowned and immediately caught up, but saw no suspicious person, only Charlotte sitting alone on the living room sofa watching TV.

Noah asked warily, "Charlotte, besides you, who else was in the living room just now?"

Charlotte shook her head, "No one, just me watching TV here."

Noah asked again, "Where is Mommy and Aunt Karen?"

Charlotte replied, "Mommy is taking a bath. I'm hungry, and Aunt Karen is making noodles for me in the kitchen!"

As her voice fell, Karen did indeed come out from the kitchen, carrying a bowl of steaming noodles. She saw Noah and immediately asked with a smiling face, "Noah, are you hungry? There's a bit of noodles left in the pot. Do you want me to serve them for you?"

Noah didn't answer, staring at Karen with scrutiny.

Karen touched her face, "What's wrong? Is there something dirty on my face? Come closer, clean it up for me."

Noah gave her a glance, said nothing, and turned back to his room.

Watching him leave, the smile on Karen's face gradually disappeared, replaced by a hint of coldness.

The next day.

Samantha accompanied Noah and Charlotte to the kindergarten.

Noah used the excuse of being thirsty and went to the small supermarket to buy water. Then, he went to the agreed-upon location with Alexander, and the two exchanged clothes.

Looking at Noah, who looked exactly like him, Alexander nervously asked, "Are you really my twin brother?"

Noah nodded, "Yes! Biologically speaking, we should be!"

Alexander asked again, "Then why were we separated? Why are you with Dad, and I'm with Mom? Why has Mom never mentioned that I have a twin brother?"

Noah's actions of changing clothes paused.

Seeing him not speaking, Alexander continued, "Why did Suzy impersonate being our mother?"

Noah's mood was complicated, not knowing how to answer him.

Because he himself hadn't figured out whether their biological mother was Suzy or Samantha.

But Alexander seemed to have already determined that his mother is Samantha.

Although he had also come to the same conclusion, there was still a subtle uncertainty in his heart. Seeing him remain silent, Alexander urged impatiently, "Speak up! What's going on?"

Noah shook his head, his face serious. "Let's wait for the results of the paternity test. Oh, by the way, I'm getting a test done for you too." He plucked a hair from Alexander's head.

Alexander asked, "When will the results be out?"

Noah replied, "I don't know. Wait for my message, and we'll stay in touch."

"I left Auntie on the other side of the road at that clothing store. Go find her there!" Alexander nodded, handed the phone to Noah, and left.

Not seeing Mom for three nights made his heart ache. When he saw Mom holding Charlotte's hand from a distance, he excitedly ran over, jumped into Samantha's arms, hugged her neck tightly, and kissed her cheek.

"Mom, I missed you so much."

Samantha glared at him, speechless. "Aren't you pretending to be profound?"

Alexander knew what he was talking about and shook his head. "No, occasional pretense is okay, but pretending every day is too tiring."

Samantha rolled her eyes at him, then sent him and Charlotte into the kindergarten. Before leaving, she reminded him, "Take care of Charlotte and don't be naughty."

Alexander gave her a 'thumbs up' and walked into the kindergarten holding Charlotte's hand.

...

Noah did not go to find Ellena directly but went straight to the hospital's identification center.

He handed two samples to the determined doctor and said solemnly, "I'll pay ten times the money. Can you get the results within three hours?"

The doctor, with a strong sense of professional ethics, didn't ask much and nodded, "Yes!"

"Good! I'll wait here!" Noah paid the money with his card, found a place in the corridor, and sat down. He held his phone tightly in his hands, trembling involuntarily from nervousness.

During this time, Ellena called him frantically, all of which he rejected one by one.

There was only one thought in his mind.

Samantha must be his biological mother, she must be!

The wait was particularly agonizing.

Time passed second by second.

Noah felt as if he could hear the rhythmic beating of his own heart.

After the long wait, he finally heard the doctor's voice.

"Noah..."
