"Hello babe" Sophia's voice comes through, "Why did you cut me off?"
"Something came up"
"Whatever, I'm at your office right now and you are nowhere to be found, where are you?"
"I'm with Luna at the hospital, she had an accident and was rushed here. I had come and see her"
"Oh...okay, so how is she?"
"She is alright, everything is cool"
"Good then. That means you will soon be on your way back, right?"
"I'm not sure"
"You are not sure?, Babe what about lunch?"
"Sophia we didn't plan on having lunch together today"
"I know but I want us to have lunch together, I already made a reservation for us at our favorite restaurant"
"Cancel it. I can't leave Luna here alone, she needs me"
"But you said she's fine right?" She whines and I massage my forehead with my fingers. She does nothing but frustrate me these days.
"Yes she is but there's a lot of things we have to talk about"
"So you're choosing her over me right now?"
"Sophia please don't do this, that's not what it is"
"If it isn't then give me your word that you will show up for lunch"
She demands in a dead serious tone.
"You don't have to miss your lunch date because of us, you should go" Luna says as she walks to the bed and sits on it.
"Sophia I promise I'll make it up to you" I hang up and turn to Luna who is frowning at me.
"Please don't"
"Ace, I don't want you straining your relationship because of me. I will be fine"
"You have no idea the kind of person Sophia is. Just let me handle her, and like I said before, you have to get used to me leaving everything behind just to be with you."
"You've got priorities which..."
"And right now you are my utmost priority, you and our unborn child. You both have got my undivided attention" I say as I hold her hands and kiss them.
"But ..." She starts to protest but I cut her off.
"Shhhh..." I say gently placing my index finger on her lips, urging her to stop talking. "You must be hungry" I switch the topic.
"Duh!, I'm always hungry"
"I thought as much, let's go to my house so I could make you something to eat"
"Your house as in your house?, Your house, house, house?" She asks with her eyes wide open.
"Yeah"
"Are you crazy?, what if you fiancé storms in and throws a tantrum?, I don't think I have the strength to deal with a ballistic fiancé this afternoon"
"I'm not scared of Sophia and her tantrums, it's my house and I decide who to have over as guest"
"But she is your fiancé"
"So?..." I ask, raising my brows.
"Ace, let's be honest right now, what we are doing to Sophia is very unfair. It's already beyond devastating that you have gotten another girl pregnant. If I were in her shoes, I would act and feel the same way. This is such a big deal and you can't blame her for feeling threatened"
"Sophia knows that I love her, we are still engaged right?, all I want is to be there for you and the baby"
"And you are doing a wonderful job, I really do appreciate you looking out for us but you don't have to do that at the expense of your relationship with Sophia. The two of you have gone a long way and she deserves this union"
"So am I supposed to neglect you both so I could shower Sophia with all the love, affection and attention before she understands that I love her?, before she understands that she is the one I want to get married to?"
"Not actually neglect, I just don't want you canceling dates or ignoring her because of me. Sophia is the woman you love, the woman you intend to marry and spend the rest of your life with, she is supposed to be your utmost priority, not me" She preaches and I just shake my head.
"Luna, you are not going to tell me who my utmost priority is. Yes, I love Sophia, I want to marry her. Yes, we have gone a long way together but you, you Luna are the mother of my unborn child. You are carrying my very first offspring, my flesh and blood, my potential heir or heiress. Do you know how many years I have begged Sophia to do this for me?"
"Sophia is a girl who has got dreams and ambitions. If you claim to love her then you should understand where she's coming from. The fact that she refused to carry your child doesn't mean she loves you any less. It's just not her time yet and you ought respect that"
"Alright then, I admit that I am wrong for trying to compare her to you. I understand her perfectly and I am willing to be patient with her. But as it is now you are carrying my child and that is such a big deal to me. Luna ever since I found out about this pregnancy I have not been able to contain my emotions, one minute I'm all excited and the next minute I'm extremely nervous. This is the best thing that has ever happened to me, I don't know if you get my point. I bless that night we had sex at my house, it brought forth the most beautiful gift, a baby!"
"Ace..." She calls with a croaky voice and I can see tears shimmering in her eyes. She is going to break down anytime soon.
"Luna don't you feel the same way?, don't you like the idea that we are going to have a baby?"
"Of course I do!" She says firmly as the tears spill down her cheeks. "This is the best thing that has ever happened to me but the situation at hand is quite disheartening. I don't want to cause any trouble, I don't want to be the reason why you and Sophia have issues. A child is supposed to bring happiness and unity but most at times I'm worried that this child will cause nothing but conflict between a lot of people. I am scared of what the future holds for this child Ace" She says between sobs and I feel my heart shatter in a million pieces. This is getting way more complicated than I thought.
"Come here" I sit by her side and take her into my arms and gently stroke her hair as she sobs.
"I'm sorry Luna, I am very sorry that you feel this way. I promise you that I'm going to fix this and you're not going to have these worries anymore. Everything is going to be alright"
" I'm still not going to your house" She says in tears and I chuckle.
"I can see you have made your decision. By the way, who do you live with?"
"I live alone but Kyle has asked me to move in with him since I am pregnant"
"Can't you just move in with me instead?, after all I am the father of this child. Kyle is just the Uncle" I explain and she looks at me and rolls her eyes.
"No I can't, and I won't"
"How about you come over for a few days?"
"Not happening, not even in your dreams"
"we will see about that"
"Ace you ..." She starts to talk but I cut her off.
"Let's go get you something to eat" I switch the topic.
I hate the fact that she contradicts me all the damn time.
"You are impossible"
"I know, right?"
The sonographer comes in and hands over the ultrasound images to me and we both thank her and leave the hospital. I'm definitely sleeping with these pictures in my arms tonight.
