Once I get into Luna's ward, I find her sleeping on the bed with Asher seated by her side. For some reason I'm relieved that she doesn't have weird tubes connected to her body. I just pray she is alright.
"Asher" I call and he looks up at me.
"You're here"
"Yeah, what happened?" I ask, panicking.
"I found her lying unconscious in her bathroom when I went to check on her, she must have tripped and fell."
"Is she alright?... I mean, did she sustain any injuries?"
"None, but I have requested for an ultrasound to be done we can know how the baby is doing"
"Has it been done already?" I ask eagerly.
"No, that's why I called. You are the one who's supposed to be here with her to carry out the ultrasound. It's your baby after all" He explains and I go mute. I'm amazed. Asher is indeed a gentleman.
"Thanks a lot man, I really do appreciate you considering that fact"
"She can't keep living alone, I expect you to do something about it" With that, he kisses her forehead and leaves the ward.
Few words with very deep meanings. Typical Asher.
I walk over to the bed and lie by her side making sure not to wake her up, my heart does a series of somersaults when she snuggles into my arms. I let out a tiny smile.
She sure loves cuddles.
"My heart hurts" She suddenly whispers and when I look at her, I notice that she is awake.
"Sorry about that"
"Am I in a hospital bed?"
"Yes, you are"
"What happened?"
"Asher said he found you unconscious in your bathroom, you must have tripped while taking a shower"
"Oh yeah, I remember that. So where is Asher?"
"He left already"
"Okay. Ace I'm sorry for the bother. You must have sacrificed a lot to be here with me"
"Luna it's nothing, your health and that if the baby's is more important than anything else. So get used to me leaving everything behind to be with you" I say as I plant a wet kiss on her forehead and she snuggles closer to me.
"Thank you"
"It's nothing" The door opens and Doctor Kevin walks in.
"Mr. Ace, you're here" He says in utter surprise.
""Yeah, I had to head over when Asher told me"
"Alright then. The sonographer is ready to attend to you Miss Angelis, I'll just get the nurses to help you prepare"
"Thank you"
I don't know why but this room freaks me out. We are here for the ultrasound and all I see in Luna's eyes is fear.
I'm equally scared. I just hope nothing happened to the baby.
"Scared?" I ask and she nods "Don't be, I'm here for you" I say as I hold her hands.
"Aren't you scared?"
"No" I lie smoothly. She doesn't know that I am scared too. I am supposed to be strong for her. "Just a bit nervous. I've never been in this kind of situation before, I think I'm getting emotional" I explain nervously and she chuckles.
"You will be fine" Is all she can say
"I sure will be." I say, nodding and rubbing my hands together.
The sonographer who happens to be a middle aged woman walks in with a big smile on her face.
"Mr. Ace, Miss Ramora, I'm honored to attend to you both"
"Thank you Doctor..." I don't know her name.
"Angelis... Doctor Angelis"
"Thank you Doctor Angelis"
"You're welcome" She says as she takes a seat. "Miss Ramora it's a miracle that you didn't sustain injuries from such a fall so I urge you to be more careful around slippery areas or anything that can hurt you"
"Okay" Luna answers in a whisper.
"Good. So Mr. Ace, are you ready to see your baby?" She asks with a raised brow and I feel all my nerves tense up in nervousness. I am getting excited. My emotions are just all over the place. I have always wanted to have a baby. Ever since I turned twenty-three, it has been buzzing in my mind and now here I am actually about to see my baby in Luna's womb. There's so much tears in my eyes that the slightest blink will get them spilling down uncontrollably.
"Yes I am" I say calmly.
"I feel like my bladder is going to burst right now"
"Luna explains and I look at her confused and worried.
"You want to pee?"
"So badly, but I can't"
"Why not?"
"It is actually needed for the test"
"Oh..." Is all I can say.
"You see, we need her uterus to be up and out of her pelvis so that the fetus can be clearly seen in the ultrasound. This pee in her bladder makes this possible."
"Oh..." I repeat.
I don't have the slightest idea what she just spoke about.
"Miss Luna, can you please raise your shirt?"
"Is it... is it going to hurt her in any way?" I am concerned. The last thing I want is Luna getting hurt in any way, that is something I can't bear.
"No, she will be perfectly okay" The sonographer says with a reassuring smile.
"Alright then, go ahead"
She gently applies a special gel in Luna's tummy and way below her abdomen. My eyes don't leave Luna's tummy for a second. When she is done, she places a transducer on her tummy and starts moving it about her abdomen while giving her instructions on how to breathe.
This moment is a dream come true to me and I am grateful to Asher for calling me over. It has been only a week but I can already feel the connection between us. This is amazing. I love this feeling and I am ready to fight for them. I won't let Seven win this challenge. They are mine.
Mine alone.
My ringtone snaps me out of my thoughts and when I check the caller ID, I heave out a heavy sigh of frustration when I see Sophia's name. I wonder why she is calling.
"There comes you little cupcake" The sonographer announces pointing to the screen and when I look closely, I see an image. Without warning I kill the ringer and slide the phone in my pocket. I will deal with Sophia when I get back home.
"It is the cutest thing ever" I say chuckling.
"Isn't it?" Luna says, chuckling too.
"Do you want to listen to its heartbeat?"
"Can I?" I ask, surprised.
"Of course you can"
"I want to, please"
"Okay" She does her magic again and in no time the entire room is echoing with the sound of our baby's heart beat. I look at the screen and see it floating here and there. Without warning, I burst into tears. The joy is too much.
There is actually a mini me kicking in Luna's womb!
"Ace" Luna calls with a bewildered expression and I struggle to wipe my tears away.
"I'm sorry Luna, I just can't contain my emotions anymore, they are all over the place"
"It's okay"
"I get this reaction from a lot of men and it's so cute. Luna you are a lucky girl" The sonographer says with a sweet smile. " We cannot determine the gender of the fetus for now, that'll be in a few weeks to come. You're baby I doing okay. Healthy and quite active. Congratulations once more"
"Thank you Doctor Angelis"
"You are welcome" She cleans off the gel from Luna's tummy and what Luna does freaks me out. She suddenly jumps down from the bed and rushes into the toilet.
"Is she allowed to do that?" I ask, worried.
"as long as she doesn't trip. But she is fine, you have nothing to be worried about" Then she exits the room.
My phone rings yet again. It's Sophia calling. This time around, I answer the call.
